The Mercury Elite-AL Pro Dual-Bay drive offers up four interface options (USB 2.0, eSATA, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800) and comes in an aircraft-grade brushed aluminum housing. Pre-configured models are available now from $219.99 (500GB) to 3TB ($499.99).<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/storage/" rel="tag">Storage</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/09/owc-intros-dual-bay-quad-interface-mercury-elite-al-pro-raid-dri/">OWC intros dual-bay quad interface Mercury Elite-AL Pro RAID drives</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 07:04:00 EST. Wait up, hang on here -- you're telling us a personality profiling conducted on 7,500 people at Apple's biggest tub-thumping event of the year, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/macworld2008/">Macworld</a>, yielded results that would suggest Apple users "are more liberal, less modest, and more assured of their own superiority than the population at large." And this so-called survey says Apple users have high indexes for "low modesty," "high perfectionism," and "high superiority," and low indexes for things like "humility," and "self esteem"? Lies and half truths. We don't know a single Apple user that fits anything remotely similar to that profile. Plus, we hear this poll totally had some hanging chads.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gadgets/" rel="tag">Misc. Where the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/21/first-generation-hd-optical-disc-players-wont-allow-copying/">failed promise of Managed Copy</a> on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/24/aacs-managed-copy-we-got-yer-managed-copy-right-ere/">Blu-ray and HD DVD left us all hanging</a>, Apple, iTunes, and Fox have oddly picked up the pieces. As paradoxically quietly announced at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/live-from-macworld-2008-steve-jobs-keynote/">this week's Jobsnote</a>, the new Family Guy Presents Blue Harvest DVD comes with an included movie file that one can pull off the disc onto their machine -- but only by making use of an included code (and a copy of iTunes with a valid account, of course), which ensures the DRM is still there. What's unclear is whether the movie file is DRMed <em>before</em> being pulled off the disc, or is encrypted specific to one's account during the process of download from the disc. Ultimately these details won't change the fact that iTunes Digital Copy is a ripe target for people who wants to legitimately buy their media, yet doesn't think it should be friggin' rights managed. Crazy, we know.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/16/itunes-digital-copy-from-fox-dvd-goes-under-the-microscope/">iTunes Digital Copy from Fox DVD goes under the microscope</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 16 Jan 2008 23:44:00 EST. It was a big first day at Macworld -- maybe not <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/09/live-from-macworld-2007-steve-jobs-keynote/">iPhone big</a>, but certainly big enough. We know most anyone who's not into Apple (and even a few who are) is ready for their regularly scheduled programming to return, and the good news is, for you, the Apple glut is over. But if you're not quite ready to let go (or missed the real-time wall to wall coverage), check it all out below.<br /><br /><strong>Keynote</strong><br />

Live from the heart-pounding, pulse-racing showfloor of Macworld 2008, we bring you a full frontal hands-on of Axiotron's long-awaited <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Modbook/">Modbook</a> -- the MacBook tablet conversion. After all the waiting and wondering, we're not totally blown away by the end result, though if you're an artist or designer, this could be a real boon to your productivity. The build is sturdy, and the screen feels solid beneath your stylus (stylus only that is -- no touchscreen here), though the pressure sensitivity seemed to give out at really soft touches... of which there were <em>many</em>. We got a quick runthrough of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AppleTV/">Apple TV</a>'s new menus, and we liked what we saw. Everything seems crisp and intuitive, and Transformers looks oh-so Transformer-ey. Unfortunately we couldn't see an actual rental transaction take place, but we'll take Apple's word for it on this one. Video is after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/video-apple-tv-take-2-menu-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: Apple TV Take 2 menu hands-on</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/video-apple-tv-take-2-menu-hands-on/">Video: Apple TV Take 2 menu hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 18:05:00 EST. Apple's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Macworld2008/">Macworld 2008</a> booth is naturally gargantuan this year, but practically empty -- that is, if you don't count the teeming hordes of people surrounding the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MacBookAir/">MacBook Air</a> table and watching the presentations on the big screen. Apple only has its new product on display, which means mainstays like regular iPods, iMacs, MacBooks and MacBook Pros were nowhere to be seen. The booth is fairly dominated by an end-to-end table filled with MacBook Airs and their respective Apple guardians. Time Capsule seems a bit of an afterthought, as does Apple TV.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-macworld-booth-tour/">Apple Macworld booth tour</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-macworld-booth-tour/588175/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/apple-booth-tour-img_1091_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-macworld-booth-tour/588200/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/apple-booth-tour-img_1092_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-macworld-booth-tour/588207/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/apple-booth-tour-img_1093_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-macworld-booth-tour/588195/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/apple-booth-tour-img_1094_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-macworld-booth-tour/588208/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/apple-booth-tour-img_1095_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-macworld-booth-tour/">Apple Macworld booth tour</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 16:52:00 EST. Well, seems Steve wasn't fibbing when he mentioned we'd see the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/iphone-now-with-maps-and-locations/">iPhone and iPod touch update</a> today, as it does seem to have landed. Hit the link below to get at the package if the auto updater just isn't doing it for you -- and judging from our luck so far, there are some issues. Note that you're going to need iTunes 7.6 to roll this update out.<br /><br /><a href="http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-4061.20080115.4Fvn7/iPhone1,1_1.1.3_4A93_Restore.ipsw">Read</a> - 1.1.3 update package for iPhone<br /><a href="http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPod/SBML/osx/061-4060.20080115.9Iuh5/iPod1,1_1.1.3_4A93_Restore.ipsw">Read</a> - 1.1.3 update package for iPod touch<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/updated-firmware-1-1-3-is-available-for-iphone-and-ipod-touch-s/">Updated firmware 1.1.3 is available for iPhone and iPod touch, sort of</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 15:21:00 EST. Here's the new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-introduces-time-capsule/">Time Capsule</a> NAS from Apple. Not much to say about this one. It's a bit larger than we expected, but still pretty well sized for a NAS.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-time-capsule-hands-on/">Apple Time Capsule hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-time-capsule-hands-on/587622/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/time-capsule-img_1079_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-time-capsule-hands-on/587629/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/time-capsule-img_1080_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-time-capsule-hands-on/587630/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/time-capsule-img_1081_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-time-capsule-hands-on/587624/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/time-capsule-img_1082_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-time-capsule-hands-on/587631/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/time-capsule-img_1083_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/storage/" rel="tag">Storage</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-time-capsule-hands-on/">Apple Time Capsule hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 15:10:00 EST. Not only is the latest version of iTunes (v7.6 for those keeping count) required to enjoy those brand new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/more-details-on-apples-itunes-movie-hd-rentals/">movie rentals</a>, but users with 64-bit Windows Vista machines can now look forward to using the software without issue. According to a number of tips, owners of said setups are apparently having no issues with it as of now. So, 64-bit Vista users -- for any of you courageous enough to give it a whirl, why not install iTunes 7.6 and report back with how things worked out?<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apples-itunes-7-6-plays-nice-with-64-bit-vista/">Apple's iTunes 7.6 plays nice with 64-bit Vista</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 15:07:00 EST. It wasn't exactly crystal clear during Steve's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/live-from-macworld-2008-steve-jobs-keynote/">keynote today</a>, but apparently, there's a fair bit of red tape attached to these <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-introduces-itunes-movie-rentals/">movie rentals</a>. First off, since the Apple TV <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/01/15/apple-tv-take-2-brings-hd-movie-rentals-to-the-living-room/">hardware</a> is remaining the same, users can still <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/03/23/cringely-thinks-the-apple-tv-will-hurt-blu-ray-and-hd-dvd-sales/ ">only expect 1,280 by 720 resolution</a> on the high-end, and although 100 HD movies are reportedly ready to be viewed, not a single TV show can say the same. Furthermore, a note at the bottom of the Apple TV's revised tech specs points out that "Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound is not available with all HD rentals," so there's that. We've also learned that HD movie rentals will be available <em>exclusively</em> through the Apple TV, and considering that only rentals made from iTunes can be moved to other devices, any downloads originating from the Apple TV (including everything in high-definition) won't be making their way onto your iPod, iTunes library, etc. Depressing, we know.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/more-details-on-apples-itunes-movie-hd-rentals/">More details on Apple's iTunes movie / HD rentals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 14:54:00 EST. Today, unfortunately, we did see some issues -- we're hosted by AOL, which obviously has more bandwidth than God, and yet still two data centers went out. Of course, there are far more data centers hosting us than just two, so a lot of readers saw no issues whatsoever. We are already in the midst of a post-mortem, but it's pretty clear you all must really love what we've got going on here, because this was easily our most trafficked live coverage to date.<br /><br />The upshot, of course, is that we're fully back online right now and anticipate zero further issues throughout the day. So head on over and hit up our hands-ons and check out all the news of all the new Apple gear! Don't worry, we can handle it.<br /><strong><br /><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-macbook-air-first-hands-on/">Apple MacBook Air first hands-on</a><br /><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-tv-take-2-hands-on/" title="View Apple TV Take 2 hands-on on Engadget">Apple TV Take 2 hands-on</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/the-macbook-air/" title="View The MacBook Air on Engadget">The MacBook Air</a><br /><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/the-macbook-air-superdrive/" title="View The MacBook Air SuperDrive on Engadget">The MacBook Air SuperDrive</a><br /><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/meet-the-new-macbook-family/" title="View Meet the new MacBook family on Engadget">Meet the new MacBook family</a><br /><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-introduces-time-capsule/" title="View Apple introduces Time Capsule, a NAS companion to Time Machine on Engadget">Apple introduces Time Capsule, a NAS companion to Time Machine</a><br /><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-unveils-the-apple-tv-take-2/" title="View Apple unveils the Apple TV, take 2 on Engadget">Apple unveils the Apple TV, take 2</a><br /><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/iphone-now-with-maps-and-locations/" title="View iPhone firmware 1.1.3 update announced: it's just like we heard on Engadget">iPhone firmware 1.1.3 update announced: it's just like we heard</a><br /><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-introduces-itunes-movie-rentals/" title="View Apple introduces iTunes movie rentals, HD rentals on Engadget">Apple introduces iTunes movie rentals, HD rentals</a><br /><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/live-from-macworld-2008-steve-jobs-keynote/" title="View Live from Macworld 2008: Steve Jobs keynote on Engadget">Live from Macworld 2008: Steve Jobs keynote</a></strong><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/meta/" rel="tag">Meta</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/yeah-about-those-server-problems/">Yeah, about those server problems...</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 14:32:00 EST. Here they are! Your oh-so-recently refreshed family of MacBooks. From left to right, we've got the tried and true MacBook, the all new showstopper (you can call it <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/the-macbook-air/">MacBook Air</a>) and the MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, the two wingmen aren't seeing any updates today, but that fellow in the middle sure is getting a lot of attention.<br /><br />

Apple just announced the .16-inch thin MacBook Air -- a laptop so thin it fits in a manila envelope. The new machine features a full-size keyboard and LED-backlit 13.3-inch display with built-in iSight, and the new larger trackpad supports multi-touch gestures. Just like the iPhone, you'll be able to pan around, pinch to zoom, and rotate with two fingers, and move windows with a flick. Apple got the size down by using the same 1.8-inch 80GB drive that's in the iPod classic, but you'll be able to order a 64GB SSD as an option. The Air eschews optical media, but there's a separate external you can snag for $99 and Apple's also announced a feature called Remote Disk that'll let the Air get data off the optical drive in any PC or Mac running the Remote Disk software. Pricing starts at $1799, and the Air will be shipping in two weeks.<br /><br />

It's not exactly a <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/10/18/live-free-or-die-hard-dvd-to-also-include-downloadable-version/">new idea</a>, but Apple and Fox have just announced that DVDs from the studio will include iTunes-ready digital copies of the movies from here on out. That feature (which thankfully comes at no extra charge) will first be available on the Family Guy Blue Harvest disc, which will pack a file that you can "instantly move to iTunes." From there, you'll be able to view it on your computer, iPod, iPhone or Apple TV, with a unique code provided to ensure that you don't spread it around any further. Somewhat interestingly, while Fox's Jim Gianopulos mentioned both DVD and Blu-ray in his presentation, the official press release (linked below) seems to indicate that the digital copies will only be on DVDs, at least for now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-and-fox-announce-digital-movie-copies-on-discs/">Apple and Fox announce iTunes-ready digital copies on discs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 11:56:00 EST. Apple just admitted that the first Apple TV didn't quite work out -- so it's back with a new model that can access iTunes directly, and streams movies from the new rental store in both DVD quality and HD with 5.1 surround. HD rentals cost a dollar more than SD content -- $3.99 and $4.99, and they'll sync back to your computer as well. The YouTube selection has also been expanded to 50M videos, there's now Flickr support in addition to .mac, and what's more, the entire UI has been revamped. The new single menu interface offers quick search of all available titles, and includes access to 600 TV shows that are available for $1.99, as well as your iTunes library and HD podcasts. Current owners aren't left out in the cold, though -- Apple's offering the new software as a free download. That's not all, either -- to lure you in to the frightening world of HD rentals, Apple's dropped the price to $229, down from $299.<br /><br />

If you saw the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/1.1.3">1.1.3</a> leaked firmware then this isn't a surprise. The new iPhone firmware features Google maps with location, up to 9 total home screens, Webclips, the ability to SMS multiple recipients, and more. That more being lyrics, subtitles, languages, chapters, in your iPod media. To customize a screen you just touch and hold the icon for a couple of seconds and it begins to "shake." Right, just like we saw in the video. Flicking your finger across the screen moves to the next screen. iPod touch users, it's all yours (minus the phone related apps, naturally) for $20. No, we're not kidding.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/iphone-now-with-maps-and-locations/">iPhone firmware 1.1.3 update announced: it's just like we heard</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 11:49:00 EST. Apple has officially announced movie rentals for iTunes. Studios involved include Touchstone, MGM, Miramax, Lions Gate, Fox, Warner Brothers, Walt Disney, Paramount, Universal, and Sony, just to name a few. The new feature will launch today with 1,000 available films by the end of February -- prices will come in at $2.99 for a regular rental, and $3.99 for new releases. You'll be able to begin watching your movie in 30 seconds, and will have the rental for up to 24 hours, during which time you can transfer the file to an iPod or iPhone and take it on the go. Additionally, you'll be able to nab HD rentals for just $1 more, respectively.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-introduces-itunes-movie-rentals/">Apple introduces iTunes movie rentals, HD rentals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 11:48:00 EST. It's not all love for the iPhone today -- Apple just announced that Mail, Maps, Stocks, Notes and Weather are all coming to the iPod touch. New touch owners get 'em all for free, but all of you early adopters will have to cough up: the bundle is going to set you back a whopping $20. The new Maps app can't use cell-based location-finding like on the iPhone, but it can still figure out where it is using SkyHook's WiFi hotspot database. The touch also supports webclips and the reconfigurable home screen now, but we're a little unsure why all this has to cost $20 -- why no love, Apple?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-adds-five-apps-to-the-ipod-touch/">Apple adds five apps to the iPod touch -- for a price</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 11:47:00 EST. Today Apple announced that it's sold 4 million <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/iphone">iPhones</a> in the 200 days since launch, at a rate of roughly 20,000 a day. The phone apparently attained a 19% share in the smartphone market in the first quarter of its existence, and Steve Jobs says the phone bested Palm, Motorola and Nokia put together in the space in the first 90 days. It sounds like a pretty impressive pace, especially given the fact that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/10/apple-iphone-hits-the-one-million-mark/">only 1 million had sold</a> by September of last year, but Apple still has a ways to go to compete with the likes of RIM.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apples-sold-4-million-iphones-since-launch/">Apple's sold 4 million iPhones since launch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 11:46:00 EST. Apple announced a companion to Time Machine today, Time Capsule. Essentially a hard drive and Airport combined -- an NAS from your favorite Cupertino team. The wireless drive will come in 500GB and 1TB configurations, and will feature 802.11n, as well as server grade hard drives. They will clock in at $299 and $499, respectively (Steve says they're aggressively pricing them because they want everyone to backup). You'll be able to backup your notebook or desktop wirelessly from anywhere in your home. Available in February, pre-order now.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-time-capsule/">Apple Time Capsule</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-time-capsule/587154/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/timecapsuledante1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-time-capsule/587158/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/timecapsuledante2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-time-capsule/587156/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/timecapsuledante3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-time-capsule/587155/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/timecapsuledante4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/storage/" rel="tag">Storage</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-introduces-time-capsule/">Apple introduces Time Capsule, a NAS companion to Time Machine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 11:45:00 EST. It was but a few months ago that Apple trumpeted the fact that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/30/apple-2-million-copies-of-leopard-sold/">two million copies</a> of Leopard had been sold in its first weekend. As of Macworld 2008, you can add three million more to that figure. According to Jobs, it's the "most successful release of OS X ever," and nearly 20-percent of the install base has made the leap to 10.5. Oh, and just in case you were wondering about Office Mac 2008, it is indeed shipping today, which means that all the "big apps" for OS X are finally Intel native.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/apple-ships-five-million-copies-of-leopard-in-three-months/">Apple ships five million copies of Leopard in three months</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Jan 2008 11:35:00 EST. Tomorrow morning the tech world will tune in as Steve gets on stage to kick off another Macworld expo -- an event Apple usually uses for only its biggest product announcements. There are all kind of crazy rumors going around, but this year there are a few picks that have seem to stuck: an ultraportable MacBook (Pro) of some kind, iTunes movie rentals, and, of course, the iPhone SDK. But what rabbit will El Jobso pull out of his hat marked one-more-thing? Find out tomorrow when we bring you our live coverage at 9AM PT (and check out <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/live-from-macworld-2008-steve-jobs-keynote/">other local times here</a>).<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gadgets/" rel="tag">Misc. For those not paying attention, there's a "leaked" <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Macworld2008/">Macworld 2008</a> keynote making the rounds today, and we'd just like to make sure you know it's completely and utterly false. Not only is it one of many fabricated keynotes making the rounds this year, and part of an annual ritual of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/11/wwdc07-keynote-transcript-leaked-we-think-not/">keynote fabrications</a>, but it even manages to be self-damning with its listing of a Mac Pro refresh -- which <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/08/apple-updates-mac-pro/">obviously happened</a> last week. Let's try a little harder, people!<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gadgets/" rel="tag">Misc. Sure, all will be revealed tomorrow, but rather than twiddle their thumbs, the Apple curious are scouring the internet for further evidence of the MacBook Air. A certain tipster named "byrd" searched for "macbookair" on Dogpile and found a Google ad listing up top, which redirects to the MacBook page of the Apple Store. Meanwhile MacDailyNews reader "mango" tracked down the macbookair.org domain name and found that it is indeed listed under Apple -- the Whois domain name lookup won't show any info on the .com or .net versions. Obviously these are pretty minor details that don't say a lot in themselves, but the more of these that pile in, the more we're inclined to believe in a magical ultraportable from Apple tomorrow that will fulfill all our wishes -- we're suckers like that.<br /> <br />[Thanks, byrd]<br /><br /><a href="http://www.macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/macbookair_domain_names_registered_by_apple_1_infinite_loop_cupertino_ca/">Read</a> - MacDailyNews domain name lookup<br /><a href="http://www.dogpile.com/dogpile/ws/results/Web/macbookair/1/417/TopNavigation/Relevance/iq=true/zoom=off/_iceUrlFlag=7?_IceUrl=true">Read</a> - Dogpile search results<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/14/more-macbook-air-evidence-wafts-by/">More "MacBook Air" evidence wafts by</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 14 Jan 2008 15:03:00 EST. The 2.5-inch drive now comes in 160GB and 250GB sizes, priced $140 and $210, respectively, for the USB 2.0 versions, while the Dual Interface editions (which toss in FireWire 400) will run you $160 and $230, respectively. Yep, we know there are a ton of you who want us to liveblog our keynotes in reverse chronological order (i.e. latest updates at the top, earliest updates at the bottom), and not how we normally do it, where you read from top to bottom like everything else. So we're putting it to the vote -- do you want our updates in order, top to bottom, as usual? Or would you prefer them close to the top of the keynote page? (We'll probably go back later and reorder everything for the latecomers, if so.) Let us know, we aim to please.<br /><br />Oh, and don't forget, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/live-from-macworld-2008-steve-jobs-keynote/">Steve's Macworld 2008 keynote goes down here</a>.<br /><br />

Oh dear lord, we aren't even through this year's <a href="http://ces.engadget.com">CES</a> / <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/macworld2008">Macworld</a> one-two punch and we just happened upon some distressing news for the 200,000+ tech trade show-goers and media that attend both: they're overlapping in 2009. AGAIN. Granted, things appear to be a little different this time around -- Steve and the Cupertino crew will be firing the first shots on Tuesday, January 6th, with Macworld continuing through Friday the 9th, while CES opens up on Thursday, the 8th, and wraps up Sunday, the 11th. But didn't Jobs and Shapiro say this thing would never happen again? Actually, come to think of it, no -- they merely "agreed it would be nice if they didn't overlap." Yeah, it <em>would</em> really would be nice, guys, you should try making it happen more than once every couple of years.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gadgets/" rel="tag">Misc. Apple, a company normally and notoriously known for being fast and loose with its product announcements just blew our minds: spy shots from within the Macworld expo revealed a large, black, shrouded booth; there's simply nothing to see. Apple's a bit short on banners this year -- just that "There's something in the air" teaser <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/11/macworld-2008-banners-popping-up-theres-something-in-the-air/">we saw yesterday</a> in a couple of forms -- but we've arrived in San Francisco to prep for the show, and thought we'd snap a few shots of the convention center before the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Macworld2008/">Macworld 2008</a> attendees descend upon this place en masse.<br /><br />Oh, and don't forget:<br /><strong><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/live-from-macworld-2008-steve-jobs-keynote/">Live Steve Jobs Macworld keynote</a></strong> (begins the morning of the 15th)<strong><br /><a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/macworld2008/">All Macworld 2008 coverage</a> [<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/macworld2008/rss.xml">RSS</a>]</strong><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/were-on-the-ground-at-macworld-2008/">We're on the ground at Macworld 2008</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/were-on-the-ground-at-macworld-2008/577909/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/macworld-pre-img_1004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/were-on-the-ground-at-macworld-2008/577918/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/macworld-pre-img_1005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/were-on-the-ground-at-macworld-2008/577921/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/macworld-pre-img_1006_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/were-on-the-ground-at-macworld-2008/577915/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/macworld-pre-img_1007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/were-on-the-ground-at-macworld-2008/577922/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/macworld-pre-img_1008_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/12/were-on-the-ground-at-macworld-2008/">We're on the ground at Macworld 2008</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 12 Jan 2008 19:14:00 EST. With <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ces%202008/">CES</a> in the books, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/11/macworld-2008-banners-popping-up-theres-something-in-the-air/">banners flying up</a> and rumors running <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/05/meet-the-mactouch-and-macbook-touch-with-docking-imac-and/">rampant</a>, only one thing could be on the horizon: Steve's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/live-from-macworld-2008-steve-jobs-keynote/">Macworld 2008 keynote</a>. Unfortunately, it seems he's a bit short on time, and needs you to access a totally awesome web-based game to help round up garb, VIPs and top-secret gear before taking the stage. Okay, so all of that is complete rubbish, but if you've got a moment to kill and can't stop obsessing over next Tuesday, hit the read link and have a laugh.<br /><br />[Thanks, Mikkel]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gadgets/" rel="tag">Misc. Our <a href="http://ces.engadget.com">CES coverage</a> is winding down and we're dribble out the last of our stories from the biggest consumer tech trade show of the year, which must mean it's time to get ready for Macworld Expo. Gotta love those vague, suggestive statements Apple puts on its event banners before the big show. This year's Macworld Expo banners read "There's something in the air" -- but even if that <em>something</em> isn't a whole lot of new wireless / cellular gear, there's certainly no shortage of breathable hype.<br /><br />[Photo courtesy of Andrew S.]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gadgets/" rel="tag">Misc. <div align="left">In a shocking turn of events, IDG World Expo officially announced today that Steve Jobs will in fact headline next year's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/macworld">MacWorld</a> San Francisco conference, with his opening keynote address set to go down at 9:00AM sharp on January 15th. Exactly what that keynote will entail remains a mystery, of course, although we've certainly heard plenty of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/12/ultra-portable-apple-laptop-rumored-to-be-landing-at-macworld-ex/">rumblings on the matter</a>. Whatever it is El-Jobso has in store, you can be sure we'll have by-the-minute coverage of it, so mark your calenders and watch this space, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/20/tired-of-iphone-and-or-apple-news-on-engadget/">or not</a>.<br /><br />[Thanks, Mark]</div>
