Mushkin launches 'next generation' USB 3.0 drive, promises 300MBs read/write speeds
While Mushkin tipped its hand early regarding details of its "world's first" 480GB mSATA SSD, it did keep one thing back for CES. It's launching what it promises is a SandForce-packing, "next generation" USB 3.0 drive that will have read and write speeds of over 300 MB per second. The company is keeping the specifics about its performance, its pricing, availability and even its casing a secret for now, but we've gotten in touch and will update this when we learn more.
Mushkin shipping 'world's first' 480GB mSATA SSD in January for $500
Today, component maker Mushkin announced plans to ship the "world's first" 480GB mSATA solid-state drive. Priced at a respectable $500, the made-in-the-USA Atlas SSD is expected to ship beginning in early January, and features a SandForce SF-2281 controller with an unthrottled IOPS, a SATA III (6Gb/s) interface and a three-year warranty. At a little over $1 per gigabyte, ultrabook power users looking to push their storage capacity beyond its current 256GB boundary may want to keep an eye out for this burly option in the coming weeks. Mushkin debuts three new SSDs at CES
We love us some speedy NAND Flash here at Engadget, and Mushkin's just unveiled a trio of SSDs full of the stuff packing Sandforce SF-2281 controllers. The Chronos Go offers 560MB/s sequential writes and 525MB/s reads in drives up to 480GB in size. The Atlas mSATA SSD does sequential writes at 535MB/s, maxes out at 240GB, and will be available to be dropped into the Ultrabook of your choosing. Both the Chronos Go and Atlas are scheduled for a Q1 release. Lastly, the Scorpion PCIe modular SSD lets you chain up to four SSDs in a RAID array to get sequential writes up to 1275MB/s and reads up to 1500MB/s when it drops sometime in the first half of this year. Mushkin gets cozy with SandForce again, launches 6Gb/s EP Series SSDs for Enterprises
285MB/s read speeds from the Callisto series? Phsaw. We need at least twice that to get us out of bed in the morning, and Mushkin has our wake up call. Its announcing the EP Series of SSD drives, based on SandForce SF-2000-series processors, pledging 6Gb/s burst speeds. That sounds mighty impressive, but if you capitalize that B it turns into a somewhat less stunning figure of 768MB/s. Sequential read and write speeds are 500MB/s, while each can sustain a rate of 60,000 operations per second. That's a lot of I/O, and it's coming to gilded racks sometime in the first quarter of 2011.
Mushkin serves up its own SandForce SF-1200 controlled SSD: Callisto
That controversial SandForce SF-1200 controller sure has been poking its head out an awful lot lately, and yet again we're watching it steal the show in another new SSD. Mushkin, a mainstay in the high-end RAM industry, has just outed a new solid state drive meant to compete with those already splashing down from Intel, Corsair and OCZ Technology, and if the claims prove true, the Callisto could indeed be a serious contender. The outfit claims that users will see read speeds of up to 285MB/s and write speeds of up to 275MB/s, and the three-year warranty is definitely assuring. It's available to order today in 60GB, 120GB and 240GB capacities, with prices set at $219, $370 and $666 in order of mention. Go on -- you know that devil on your right shoulder was coaxing you into buying the biggest one, anyway.
