The Engadget Score is a unique ranking of products based on extensive independent research and analysis by our expert editorial and research teams. The Global Score is arrived at only after curating hundreds, sometimes thousands of weighted data points (such as critic and user reviews).

Engadget Summary

If you've been looking for a new everyday device but found yourself torn between the ease of typing on a laptop and the comfort and portability offered by a tablet, Lenovo's Yoga 2 11 is an affordable Windows machine that provides the flexibility of both for a good price -- but at the expense of performance.

Like its namesake discipline the Yoga 2 11 can be used in various positions with little fear of breaking, as TrustedReviews says the hinge is "strong enough to stand up to constant movement," and TechRadar finds it "easy enough to twist and turn without difficulty." The flip-flopping lid houses an 11-inch display with a 1366 x 768 resolution, which "isn't anything to get excited about," according to PC Pro, but "colours don’t fade or wash out as you tumble the Yoga 2 from one position to another – images remain bright and vivacious from almost any angle."

While the Yoga 2 11 largely succeeds from a functional standpoint, it suffers a bit in performance, with Laptop Magazine saying that "it's not the most powerful ... but it gets the job done." So it works for your everyday web browsing and email needs, but gamers may want to look elsewhere as Expert Reviews says the slow graphics chip is "unsuitable for playing 3D games." What upset critics the most was the use of a standard hard drive instead of an SSD, which PC Mag says "held the Yoga 2 11 further back" in terms of performance.

When you start shopping for a laptop in the $500 or less range you have to expect some trade-offs, and in the case of the Yoga 2 11, the trade-off is in performance, especially while multitasking. But chances are you don't need world class computing -- just something to get you online and in touch with friends and family. And for that the Yoga 2 11 will do fine, though if you don't need 500GB of storage space, save a few bucks and buy the ASUS T100 instead, which offers similar performance at a more attractive price.
