How we score

The Engadget Score is a unique ranking of products based on extensive independent research and analysis by our expert editorial and research teams. The Global Score is arrived at only after curating hundreds, sometimes thousands of weighted data points (such as critic and user reviews).

Engadget Summary

In the small universe of smartphones that work with Sprint's Direct Connect service, the Motorola Admiral is top dog. Don't expect a slim model with a giant screen and the latest version of Android, though. The Admiral is designed to be a tough, rugged phone that meets military specifications and satisfies customers who are comfortable with a QWERTY keyboard and a somewhat bulky device. Thats not to say the Admiral is all work and no play. It does include a 5-megapixel camera and the usual assortment of social networking and media apps. But this phone inherits the Nextel push-to-talk mantle, and in the end, that button on the side may be its most important feature.
