How we score

The Engadget Score is a unique ranking of products based on extensive independent research and analysis by our expert editorial and research teams. The Global Score is arrived at only after curating hundreds, sometimes thousands of weighted data points (such as critic and user reviews).

Engadget Summary

Nikon's D4S offers professional photographers the power, speed and control they need to snap the best photos in any situation. While the body has changed a bit from the D4, it's not a step back in any way, with ePHOTOzine saying the D4S offers "comfortable handling" and "doesn't feel unwieldy or overly large despite having a built-in vertical grip." The D4S is as speedy as its predecessor, thanks to an Expeed 4 processor delivering burst speeds up to 11fps, which are also accompanied by the "ability to focus and meter between shots," according to TechRadar. Ultimately, Stuff calls the picture quality "crystal-clear, sharp, and accurate." At $6000, the D4S is not priced for novices and beginners, but profressional photographers in search of a new camera or in need of an upgrade will be more than happy with what the D4S can deliver.
