How we score

The Engadget Score is a unique ranking of products based on extensive independent research and analysis by our expert editorial and research teams. The Global Score is arrived at only after curating hundreds, sometimes thousands of weighted data points (such as critic and user reviews).

Engadget Summary

Retro-inspired cameras are the "in" thing right now, and the Nikon Df could have been part of that "it" crowd, if not for its high price. Most critics agree the Df looks great... until you pick it up, with The Phoblographer finding that Nikon "put too much thought into the design and not into the user experience," and Pocket-Lint calls it an example of "form over function." And those trendy retro dials? Hardware Zone says they're "clunky." However, if you can get past the design flaws the Df does come through as a camera, producing "superb" images, according to What Digital Camera. The Nikon Df might have a trendy retro design and take great photos, but all that cool masks a flawed user experience that might leave you feeling burnt by the price.
