Engadget Summary

With the Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Note and now the Tab Pro, Samsung certainly hasn't made choosing a tablet easy. The new Tab Pro slots in between the Tab and Note, giving you the speed and power of the Note while dropping the pen -- unfortunately, that omission hasn't been accompanied by a drop in price.

Like some of the other Galaxy devices that preceded it, the Tab Pro is graced with a slim profile and faux leather backing. Its overall form factor pleased critics, with CNET saying the "tablet's design is very tactilely comfortable," and TechRadar says the bezel "fits neatly between slim and stylish, whilst staying wide enough to allow a decent grip." Which is good to hear, given that the Tab Pro houses a 10.1-inch 2560 x 1600 display that Wired UK calls "terrific."

Even though the Tab Pro doesn't come with a pen, it still employs Samsung's Magazine UI design, giving you more content on one screen. Unfortunately, this results in what TechRadar calls a "a smorgasbord of information on news, calendar and email info" that "you can rearrange as you see fit, but this is something of a confusion when all are activated." Get past the Magazine UI and Computer Shopper says you'll be rewarded with "strong performance," and HotHardware finds that features like Multi-view and pop-up app support mean "you can do a lot with this tablet thanks to this additional functionality."

Despite the UI hiccups, the Galaxy Tab Pro still delivers the performance expected from a higher-end tablet. The real problem is the $499 price tag, which puts the Tab Pro up against the iPad Air and the equally good Tablet Z2. If you're the type who enjoys the integrated experiences that Samsung provides the Tab Pro is safe bet -- anyone else should probably take a closer look at the upcoming Z2 instead.
