How we score

The Engadget Score is a unique ranking of products based on extensive independent research and analysis by our expert editorial and research teams. The Global Score is arrived at only after curating hundreds, sometimes thousands of weighted data points (such as critic and user reviews).

Engadget Summary

The NX30 puts SLR-like feel and controls into a mirrorless body, resulting in a solid shooter that TrustedReviews calls "one of the best-designed CSCs for some time." In addition to its intuitive controls, the NX30's menu system is easy to use and friendly, with ePHOTOzine saying that "menus are easy to navigate with clear text and built in help." When it comes to overall performance What Digital Camera says it's "pretty impressive," but warns the NX30 can "struggle a little when it comes to processing images during shooting." The processing speed is forgivable, thanks to the NX30's overall image quality being quite good. Pocket-Lint says image noise is kept to a "minimum," with "detailed" textures resulting in "excellent" image quality. There are no shortage of great mirrorless cameras right now, but not many offer the same SLR feel the NX30 does. If you prefer the larger body and SLR approach the NX30 is certainly worth your attention; those who want to save a few bucks but still get great performance out of their camera should consider the OM-D E-M10 from Olympus instead.
