How we score

The Engadget Score is a unique ranking of products based on extensive independent research and analysis by our expert editorial and research teams. The Global Score is arrived at only after curating hundreds, sometimes thousands of weighted data points (such as critic and user reviews).

Engadget Summary

With its sharp 2560 x 1440 screen, its stylish design, its solid range of ports and features -- and its $1,000+ price -- Samsung's 27-inch S27B970D is a good option if you're a well-heeled PC user looking for an alternative to Apple's equally pricey Thunderbolt and Cinema displays. The S27B970D has very good out-of-the-box color calibration, and solid software for custom modes; very good, deep, black levels; and wide viewing angles. With DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI ports, it'll handle any output you throw at it, and it even includes a handful of cables. However, we still prefer the Dell UltraSharp U2711, which is our Must-have 27-inch display, and sells for about $300 less than the S27B970D.
