James Corden’s Snapchat show premieres today
Last year, CBS announced that James Corden would be getting a Snapchat reality show and today, the first episode arrives. The premise of James Corden's Next James Corden is that the Late Late Show host is looking for his eventual successor, though he has no plans to leave his post just yet. The six-episode series also includes Haley Joel Osment and Sabrina Carpenter as guest judges as well as The Late Late Show's bandleader Reggie Watts.
Apple renews 'Carpool Karaoke’ for second season
Born out of a recurring sketch appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Apple's Carpool Karaoke: The Series seems to be resonating with subscribers of Apple Music. Today during an investor call, CBS (the producer of the show) announced the show would return for a second season.
CBS greenlights another James Corden show... on Snapchat
James Corden's viral-friendly Carpool Karaoke videos have given The Late Late Show exposure well beyond it's timeslot. Now CBS wants to squeeze out a little more of Corden's magic by giving the singing Brit his own (fictional) competitive reality show called James Corden's Next James Corden, in which fake contestants compete to (eventually) take Corden's job. But the show won't be on CBS or All Access when it arrives this fall -- instead, James Corden's Next James Corden will be headed straight for Snapchat Discover.
Spotify gets into podcasting with three music-themed shows
Spotify dipped its toes into podcasting in 2015 by adding pre-existing programs to its lineup. Now it's getting into content creation and rolling out its own shows. The company is launching three original podcasts, and it says that's just the start.
Apple's Carpool Karaoke series gets its first trailer
It's been six months since Apple acquired the keys to the viral juggernaut that is Carpool Karaoke. In that time, we've learned that the iPhone maker plans 16 half-hour episodes that will include celebrities like Alicia Keys, Ariana Grande, John Cena and Will Smith, but there's been little talk about how it will stand alone from the original Late Late Show segment. Thanks to a new trailer, we now have some idea of the route Apple is taking: much of it is staying the same, but an Apple budget will also take the series in a couple of new directions.
Apple Music signs up 'Carpool Karaoke' as a new show
On The Late Late Show with James Corden the "Carpool Karaoke" segment has seen visits from a number of celebrities, and now Apple wants in. It's signed an exclusive deal with CBS to produce a 16 episode series where celebrity guests ride along with the host (still TBA), visit "meaningful" places, sing songs and surprise fans. This is apparently the kind of thing Eddy Cue meant when he said Apple was only interested in developing content that could be complementary to Apple Music.
'Very British Problems' Twitter feed gets a TV show
If you grew up in Britain, you've probably picked up a few odd societal quirks. Passive aggressive remarks, an inability to deal with extreme weather and an addiction to tea, for instance. For years, the Twitter account "Very British Problems" has been posting tweets that poke fun at these British mannerisms, attracting countless followers, retweets and favourites in the process. Now, Channel 4 is taking the concept and transforming it into a TV show. It's commissioned a three episode mini-series that will debut later this summer with a combination of amusing anecdotes, animations and archive footage. A wealth of British comedians have signed on to the project, including Jonathan Ross, James Corden and Ruth Jones. It's not the first show to take inspiration from social media, but hopefully Channel 4 will find a little more success than Selfie and $#*! My Dad Says.
