Leatherman Tread bracelet is the first truly useful 'wearable'
You might not understand how truly useful and indispensable a Leatherman, or any multitool for that matter, is unless you've carried one for a while. Obviously, Leatherman President Ben Rivera is quite fond of his, but it caused a bit of a problem when he tried to pass through the gates at Disneyland while on vacation with his family. For perfectly obvious reasons, security there doesn't let people carry knives into the park. So after dropping his tool back at his hotel room, Rivera started thinking about how to carry the less offensive parts of his pocket toolkit in a more convenient way. Thus was born the Leatherman Tread bracelet.

Ever been on a six-mile hike and needed a miniature tripod to snap a picture of you and your fellow explorers? Yeah, we've been there too. As luck would have it, Gerber is throwing the much needed, but usually too cumbersome, camera accessory into one of its next multitools. Behold the Steady, a new member of the company's jack of all trades tool family. However, this one, with its pair of legs on one side and a folding tripod screw on the other, will make that all-important group shot in the middle of nowhere much less of a challenge. Of course, the usual 12 tool arsenal is included along with a knife... perhaps for opening all those frustration-included memory cards and dehydrated meal packages that you'll carry along. You'll be able to snatch the pocket tool up sometime next year for $65, moving your Joby one step closer to unemployment.
Victorinox Secure Pro USB drive is 'un-hackable,' can file your nails
This isn't the first USB drive / Swiss army knife we've seen from Victorinox, but the company's new Secure Pro drive is the first that is supposedly "un-hackable." To put that claim to the test, Victorinox actually offered a £100,000 prize to a team of "professional hackers" if they could crack the drive during the company's launch event -- they were unable to do so. That un-hackableness apparently comes primarily from the drive's combination of AES256 technology and fingerprint security, which is paired with (get this) a self-destruct mechanism that irrevocably burns the CPU and memory chip if there's any attempt to force the drive open. All that and a pair of scissors -- how can you go wrong? No word on a release over here just yet, but the drive is now available in the UK in capacities from 8GB to 32GB for between £50 and £180 (or about $75 to $270). [Thanks, Nikolas R]
iPhone returns from service with 'official iPhone tool'
Call us crazy, but it certainly appears that Apple's unofficially official iPhone tool has ripped off MacGyver's lifeline. According to an iPhone user that sent his handset in for warranty service, it arrived back with this here piece of equipment, complete with Apple's famed display label and plastic bag. Heck, if having a malfunctioning iPhone is the only way to snag one of these bad boys, we're definitely crossing our fingers for an excuse to send ours in.[Thanks, Matthew V.]
