Ready for it? We've got the release date for Samsung's tasty new Bluetooth media players with FM tuners: the YP-P2 and YP-T10. September. Ok, it's not so much a date as a range, but mark your calendars anyway and get to saving. How much? Good question, Sammy ain't saying, but you'd best start combing your pockets for the couple of hundie they'll demand. Think about it: the P2 (pictured) brings a proper 16:9 widescreen, 3-inch touchscreen display with up to 8GB of audio/video-hungry flash while the T10 wraps 4GB of your audio and video in a 0.3-inch, super thin dose of sex-ay. Just check the gallery and full specs after the break if you need more convincing.%Gallery-6441%

  • Samsung gets official with YP-P2, YP-S5, YP-T10 DAPs

We already caught sight of Samsung's new touchscreen-equipped Yepp YP-P2 DAP, but it looks like the company has a bit more in store for its Yepp line that just that, with it today officially introducing it along with two other new models. While there's little about the YP-P2 that we didn't already know, Samsung has revealed that it'll also be available in white, although it looks like it and black will be your only two options. As for the two other new players, the YP-S5 and YP-T10 each boast integrated Bluetooth, with the former sporting a built-in speaker and a 1.8-inch 222 x 176 display and the latter boasting a slightly larger 2-inch screen and a promised 30 hours of battery life. Each of those will apparently be available in 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB varieties, with the YP-T10 also set to be available in purple, red, and lime in addition to the standard black and white options. No word on price, but it looks like the whole lot is headed for Europe first.%Gallery-5996%Read - Samsung Press ReleaseRead- Pocket-lint, "Samsung YP-S5 and YP-T10 announced"

Ok we admit it, we thought the device pictured over the weekend by Akihabara News was just the iPhone obscured by that iLuv case. But really, those pics were a bit preoccupied with something other than the, ehem, gadget. Fortunately, the good kids over at dapreview sorted it out with pictures and a video of Samsung's sleek new flash player: the Yepp YP-P2. A bit of digging also reveals plenty of specs courtesy of several unsubstantiated German language sites. These include up to 8GB of flash; biggie 3-inch, 428 x 240 pixel touch-screen display; MP3, WMV, WMA, and H.264 (MPEG4 AVC), MPEG-4 (ASF) support; Bluetooth (oh yes); integrated speaker and mic; and FM radio in a device just 100 x 52 x 9.2-mm thin. They've even implemented some of that virtual click-wheel action hinted at by Apple patent applications but never quite implemented. Check another pic and video walkthrough of the interface after the break. Read -- dapreview Read -- unconfirmed specs Read -- Akihabara News P2 promotion

If you've been waiting anxiously for more details in regard to an actual ship date for Samsung's Yepp YP-U3, it looks like your wait is up. Of course, you've already had ample time to familiarize yourself with the feature list (except for the recently noted voice recording option) and even squash the envy that likely took over after someone got their grubby fingers on this thing before you, but Samsung's USB'd portable audio player can finally be yours. Apparently, it'll be showing up in black, white, green, blue, and pink, and while white earbuds look to be your only option unless you're picking up the black (surprised?), at least you can select from 1GB, 2GB, or 4GB models.

  • Samsung's Yepp T9+ digital audio player

Various flavors of Samsung's T9 music player have been floating around for a good while now, but the Yepp T9+ version packs a little something extra for those not content with just listening to jams. Design wise, not much has changed, as users will still notice a 1.8-inch 220 x 176 resolution display and capacities up to 8GB in size, but this rendition reportedly includes multi-player gaming via built-in Bluetooth. It looks like a good five or so titles will be included, and while we've no doubt that Korean users will find one without issue, getting one over here in North America probably won't be as easy as it should be.[Via Electronista]

  • Samsung YP-U3 priced and in the wild

Samsung's YP-U3 just made an appearance in France where Generation MP3 pulled an exclusive first look at the nostalgic YEPP audio stick. While confirming the specs we've already seen, GMP3 tells us that the U3 will be set free in Europe this June with prices topping out at €129/$174 for what figures to be the 4GB player. But it's not like we're saving up or anything.

  • Samsung Yepp K3 gets colorful GUI, as do current owners

So apparently the current version of the Samsung Yepp K3 only offers users a rather drab blue interface for navigating through menus, and with so many other colors in the rainbow to choose from, it's kind of sad that the "illegally sleek" player doesn't take advantage of them. Well turn those frowns upside down, K3 fans, because not only is Samsung giving the flash-based model a minor bump that enables multicolor displays, a forthcoming firmware update will bring the same cheery palette to current owners. Doesn't look like much else has changed here, with no capacity increases or additional features of note; we guess that until Apple adds video or wireless to the nano, Samsung -- unlike SanDisk -- feels it can rest on its laurels a bit.

  • Samsung's K3 reviewed -- "so sleek, it's illegal"

We've seen Samsung's K3 in product shots, pre-release gropes, and out prowling the floor at CES. What we haven't seen until now, is a proper, full-on review of the tiny flash audio player. Fortunately, CNET Asia just corrected that in their usual good, bad, bottom-line review style. Their verdict? The player is sweet, but not tasty enough to warrant an editor's choice rating. Still it pulled a "Very Good" 7.7 of 10 points for its design which is "so sleek, it's illegal" (whatever that means) and "above average" battery life tested at 26 hours 50 minutes while looping 240MB worth of MP3 tracks. The new Media Studio software -- dubbed a "gorgeous" blend of iTunes and Sony's SonicStage -- didn't hurt the rating either. The only real nits are the K3's "smudgy surface" (read: attracts fingerprints) and its proprietary cable. Otherwise, it's one hot piece of DAP which we can already attest to. • Samsung's YEPP T9: pink, for someone special

Here's another V-day gadgety-gift idea for that special effeminate friend or iPod-less dictator with a taste for big red balls -- the Samsung Yepp T9, now in pink. That rose-colored bladder comes filled with Kenzo perfume which, presumably, is applied by hurling it at your mate like a water balloon... but that's us, and we date robots. This 2GB model comes blue in the tooth and festooned with plenty of doilies to show just how much of a sap you really are. Hitting South Korea on February 5th for 215,000KRW (about $228) just in time for their favorite Hallmark holiday -- who knew?

    12.18.2006

With the (official) launch of Samsung's Yepp K3 presumably just weeks away, who could blame you for taking your eyes off the T9? Until January's CES, the T9 reigns supreme in Samsung's lineup of flash media players. It even sports its own "series" of third party accessories like the big boys... albeit, from just a single vendor so far. So today, Sammy announced an 8GB capacity bump to keep the Yepp competitive with all the other 8 giggers out there. The T9, however, delivers one notable exception: stereo Bluetooth. No details, but you can expect it to be priced to compete.

  • Samsung pimps out 18K gold YP-Z5

    by

    12.05.2006

In today's "because they can" moment, Samsung has decided that in order to truly celebrate the 1-millionth YP-Z5 DAP sold, they must take 10 of them, dip them in 18K gold, and then auction them off to people who like shiny things. As you probably know by now, this blingification isn't anything new in the consumer electronics biz. The units come with interface designer Paul Mercer's signature on the back and arrive in gold-leafed boxes. You may remember Paul Mercer from such interfaces as the iPod (he defected to help with the YP line). According to Samsung, these ultimate extravagances are expected to net at least 120,000 Yen ($1,040) each. Yepp.[Via DAPreview]

  • iLuv's iss277 alarm dock for Samsung Yepps: yup, Yepps

    by

    12.01.2006

iLuv is getting promiscuous with their affections this morning with an iLuv Stereo alarm dock for Samsung Yepp audio devices -- one of, if not the first third-party accessory for Yepps with more on the way according to iLuv's CEO. The Yepp T9B (pictured) is Sammy's FCC approved Bluetooth MP3 player; a good choice for display since the iLuv iss277 also features a "Bluepin" Bluetooth dongle to stream audio from the T9 and presumably any Bluetooth enabled device. Otherwise, we're looking at what appears to be pretty much the same "made for iPod" i177 which already played music from any DAP through a line-in jack. However, by connecting through the dock, the Yepp can be charged and integrated into the sleep and wake functions of the alarm clock and controlled via the remote. While it's a bit early to call it a trend, any move towards a universal device dock like that announced by Altec Lansing is certainly a refreshing change. However, here's a hint for iLuv and others: make the DAP icon (pictured after the break) a bit less iPod'ish next time if you want to keep the peace with your partners. Available in February for 189,000 Korean Won or about $204 when these arrive closer to home.

  • Samsung YP-T9 sneaks into the States

    10.09.2006

It's not like we weren't expecting it, but Samsung's Yepp YP-T9 player has finally been spotted in the US, though it's not exactly available yet. Best Buy has the 4GB player up for sale on their online store, but it's "backordered" for a week or two. The $199 pricetag lines up just fine with Apple's 4GB offering, but SanDisk's Sansa undercuts both of those at $179, so Sammy isn't getting any edge there. Luckily, the little player has gotten some decent review love, and it should be a decent option for those PlaysForSure Luddites that haven't yet jumped onto the hardware/software combo bandwagon, ala Apple, Microsoft and Real.[Thanks, Mike]

Alright, we've seen it hit the FCC, China and Korea, but how do we really feel about this new Yepp player diving into the already crowded nano-killer space? According to CNET, we feel "Very good." The YP-T9 sounds to be quite tactile and fun to use, with solid buttons, a nice finish and that lovable Adobe Flash interface. CNET found the 1.8-inch 176 x 220 display to be plenty good for a device of this size, but though photos looked sharp and videos played back smoothly, the device only supports the SVI codec, so it'll be a chore getting any video to watch on the tiny screen. As for performance, the player sounds like a winner -- even using the stock earphones -- and the 30 hours of audio playback and 7 hours of video (Samsung promised 6) are some of the best battery life stats going. The player turns out to be quite a worthy successor to the YP-T8, and while it didn't knock the socks off anybody at CNET-land, it should do all right for itself all the same.[Thanks, Pennywise]

  • Samsung's Yepp T9 hits Korea

Alright, nothing to see here. Samsung is just parading their sexy, Adobe Flash-capable, 1.8-inch screened, 30 hour lastin' and video-playin' Yepp T9 all across Asia with nary a thought for us lowly North Americans. Now they've hit their very own South Korea with the player, and we've got our first sight of pricing: 199,000 won, 239,000 won, and 299,000 won in Korea (for the 1, 2 and 4GB versions respectively), and supposed $180, $220, and $280 US pricetags for whenever it drops here. We're taking those latter prices with a grain of salt, since they're a fair bit off the direct conversion of won to dollar, and the player hasn't actually been announced for the States as far as we know, but we suppose it's better than nothing. So, anyone feeling that purple?[Via Akihabara]

  • Samsung's Yepp YP-T9 with Bluetooth hits FCC

Looks like Samsung has a new one in the works; their YP-T9 DAP just got its FCC approval and it's looking mighty nice. The Yepp player measures 0.43-inches thick, and weighs a mere 1.7 ounces, but Samsung still managed a few extras. Most notable is the Bluetooth support for using wireless headphones, but there's plenty of other stuff like FM radio, voice recording, MP3/WMA/OGG support, photo and text viewing, and two full color 3D games. You can also play back 15fps videos at a 208 x 176 resolution, be we think we'll pass, thanks. Samsung claims 30 hours of music playback and 7 hours for video, but of course we have no idea as to when Samsung is planning on releasing this thing. Keep reading for more FCC glamour shots.[Thanks, Tuolumne]

Samsung's nano-esque YP-Z5 (you know, the one designed by a former Apple employee) is barely out the door, and Samsung already has an upgrade in the works. The YP-Z5F doesn't break any major new ground, but it does add two features that were lacking in the earlier model but are fairly standard in most other (non-Apple) audio players: an FM radio and voice recorder. It also comes in a sort-of-pinkish color, if you're into that. No word on pricing or release dates, though we'd like to see Samsung finally get the 1GB Z5 out the door first.

  • Samsung's YM-P1 20GB PMP available for pre-order

It's hitting our shores a little later than expected, but you can finally queue up for the US version of Samsung's hot little YM-PD1 personal media player (pictured), the YM-P1 (the absence of the "D" refers to the lack of a DMB over-the-air DTV receiver). Since we've been following this model for some time, you'll no doubt recall that it features a 4-inch widescreen TFT display, sports in-line recording to a 20GB hard drive, and supports a gaggle of formats including MP3, WMA, OGG, AC3, MPEG-4, DivX, XviD, AVI, WMV, JPEG, and BMP. You can also jack up the memory a bit via the SDIO slot, listen to and record FM radio, and even play some videogames (although the controls don't look all that well-suited for serious gaming). SamsungHQ spotted the P1 available for pre-order on Datavision's website at $370 (where "Our prices are too low to advertise!"), although there is no mention of when the devices will actually be shipping, so don't toss your Archos aside just yet.
