Netflix announced today that the cast of its upcoming movie Murder Mystery has been set and production will begin this week. The film stars Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston and Luke Evans and is set to be released next year. Sandler plays a New York City police officer who is taking his wife (Aniston) on a European vacation. On the way, they meet a mysterious man, played by Evans, who gets them invited to a billionaire's family gathering. But when the wealthy man (Terence Stamp) is found murdered, Sandler's and Aniston's characters become the number one suspects.

Netflix thinks people still like Adam Sandler movies

Adam Sandler's recent output has been... well, it's probably best not to talk about it. Regardless of how you feel about his work, Netflix and its viewers seem to be fans and as such the streaming juggernaut has inked another four-movie deal with the Saturday Night Live alum. His next Netflix flick, romantic comedy Sandy Wexler, debuts April 14th starring Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson, and Sandler's usual suspects: Kevin James, Terry Crews, Nick Swardson and Rob Schneider among others.

  • Netflix execs talk 'Ridiculous 6' popularity, censorship

In their first Q&A session since launching a (nearly) global internet TV network, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and content head Ted Sarandos sounded appropriately pleased with themselves. Sarandos said the recent debut of Adam Sandler's Ridiculous 6 made it the "most-watched movie in Netflix's history" over the first 30 days. Previously he'd said Beasts of No Nation was the service's most-watched movie in its first week of release and that it had over 3 million views in North America after two weekends, but he did not provide any numbers for Sandler's movie. Most of the questions focused on what content would be available worldwide, and from them, it's clear that Netflix is not only operating differently from most others in the TV business but also sees its opportunities in a different way. While Sarandos called movie windowing "managed dissatisfaction," Hastings presented a goal of global availability. But Netflix has to operate under preexisting restrictions for now.

The new X-Files won't air until next year, but fans can grab the entire existing series run on Blu-ray this week. Available in both a complete series set and as individual seasons, it has every episode (plus 26 hours of extras) available in widescreen with surround sound. The other big Blu-ray release is Marvel's second Cinematic Universe collection, ready to set you up with it's last round of movies. This week Netflix is also presenting its first movie with Adam Sandler, and yes, it's the one with jokes so bad they caused a dozen Native American actors to walk off the set. A better option on streaming is probably season two of Amazon's critically-acclaimed series Transparent. Otherwise there's a slew of fall finales on TV, plus the series finale of The League. Look after the break to check out each day's highlights, including trailers and let us know what you think (or what we missed).

  • 'Pixels' is somehow even worse than I thought it could be

When the first trailer for Pixels hit I was worried that the movie was going to be a "steaming pile of cinematic garbage." Now that I've actually seen the Adam Sandler and Kevin James vehicle, I can say that was still far too generous a prediction; it's actually much, much worse. Pixels' real villains aren't the admittedly gorgeous renderings of giant-sized Pac-Man and Donkey Kong hell-bent on destroying Earth -- they're the toxic tropes that Hollywood keeps perpetuating.

If you've been looking forward to the day when you can watch Adam Sandler offend the Native American population from the comfort of your own home, pay attention: Netflix just announced release dates for its first four original feature films. You'll be able to watch Sandler's controversial contribution, The Ridiculous Six, on December 11th, exclusively on Netflix.

  • 'Pixels' looks like another horrible video game movie

Pixels is a live-action movie about an alien-controlled cadre of classic video game characters wreaking havoc upon humanity by turning everything they touch into, well, pixels. It's based on the charming 2010 short by the same name that Sony thought would make a great feature-length movie starring Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) and Paul Blart (Kevin James). A mulleted Peter Dinklage is along for the ride too, in what looks like a less challenging role than his voice work in Destiny was. His character bears more than a passing resemblance to Dog the Bounty Hunter, because sure why not? At one point, Pac-Man's creator Toru Iwatani (played by Denis Akiyama) gets his hand chomped off by the big yellow guy himself. And just when I thought it couldn't get any more stupid, out came trite "homages" to iconic scenes from Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Independence Day. All this to say: The movie looks absolutely abhorrent.

If there's one thing that America loves more than Netflix, it's movies where Adam Sandler sits around in loungewear cracking wise with Kevin James. It was back in October that the streaming company decided to give the public what it needed, teaming up with the actor's production company to knock out four original movies. Now, just a few months later, The Wrap has learned the details about the first to roll off the production line.

  • Netflix is the exclusive home for four new Adam Sandler movies

Netflix said it had more movies coming other than the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and it's already lining them up, starting with an exclusive four picture deal for Adam Sandler. The comedian's flicks have grossed over $3 billion worldwide, so we'll count it as a win and just forget about Jack & Jill and Blended. According to Sandler, the secret to getting the deal done was because "Netflix rhymes with Wet Chicks." Things are so early on that production meetings are apparently just starting, but Netflix and Sandler's Happy Madison Productions team say the earliest movie could debut in 2015. The deal doesn't cover the actor's current studio commitments, and unlike Crouching Tiger, there's no mention of trying to debut these on the big screen which would probably be a waste of time anyway. • Where did "Blu-ray" come from? Adam Sandler knows

The name HD DVD, while not particularly original is at least pretty clear to anyone familiar with standard DVDs. Fans of Sony's Blu-ray technology certainly get the connection to its blue laser technology, but the average consumer might be a little thrown off. If you need more explanation of where the term "Blu-ray" originated, Adam Sandler -- star of Sony Pictures' first dual-layer 50GB Blu-ray release -- provided his own retelling of the events during a dinner honoring Sony CEO Howard Stringer recently. No matter how seriously you take his tale of a devastating cross-eyed blonde named Blu-ray who rocked Howard's world many years ago in Singapore, we're sure the company's shareholders hope making the name famous won't "destroy" the executive.

  • Shadow of the Colossus cameo in new Sandler, Cheadle flick

GameBump spotted this Shadow of the Colossus appearance in a trailer for the upcoming Adam Sandler drama Reign Over Me, which also stars Don Cheadle. So does Fumito Ueda's wonderful PlayStation 2 epic play a significant role in the plot? Probably not. Still, that a major Hollywood production would opt to use a game that is not easily recognizable to a mainstream audience is significant enough. Unfortunately, the cameo, as framed by the trailer, is pinned to the old stereotype that when guys get to playing video games they neglect more important obligations (okay, sometimes we do), but the usage of Shadow of the Colossus also ties into an overarching maturation of the games industry; one that is forcing mainstream perception to shifts its view and embrace the critical impact games have on many adult lives. Nice work, Mr. Binder. [Thanks, Aaron]

Some people pretend to donate PS3s and some people are the real deal, spreading holiday cheer to the less fortunate. In this case, uber-comedian Adam Sandler donated a PS3 to siblings who have both recently been diagnosed with cancer:"Stephanie Hudon has bone cancer that recently spread to her lungs. Kevin Hudon was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in November and is undergoing chemotherapy."The generosity didn't stop with Sandler as the teens' high-school held a fund raiser where fellow student, Nathan Burditt, camped out for 34 hours to nab a PS3 for a raffle.Bravo to Sandler and Bravo to the students of Memorial High School. PS3fanboy's prayers and hopes are with Stephanie and Kevin.Kind of puts things into perspective, doesn't it?[Update: Originally, this post was intended as a sequel to the original PS3 posterboy story. The content has been changed to encourage a more positive discussion as the year turns.][Via PSU]
