Key PlayStation exec Adam Boyes already said he was leaving Sony to return to game development, but it's now clear that he's making this switch in style. Iron Galaxy Studios has confirmed that Boyes will become its CEO as of August 8th. That's right -- one of the PlayStation world's best-known figures is now working for a developer whose best-known work involves the Microsoft-exclusive Killer Instinct reboot. It also created Wreckateer, an early showcase for Kinect, and played a big role in producing the hilariously simple fighting game Divekick.

PlayStation is banking big on virtual reality. It's the only major console manufacturer to build its own VR headset, PS VR, which is exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and is set to launch in October for $400. Sony expects to release roughly 50 PS VR games by the end of the year and it has 230 development teams working on experiences for the headset. This ecosystem -- the hardware, software and hype -- doesn't materialize overnight.

Becoming an independent PlayStation 4 developer is easy, Sony's Adam Boyes tells us: "You just have to sign up." The PlayStation VP of publisher and developer relations was explaining what the company has done to woo indie devs. Half the job was just making developer programs more accessible. "Before GDC last year we didn't even have a website where you could go and find out about it, but now we have a very well thought out process." Boyes says that anyone who qualifies as an independent developer can get a free (loaner) developer kit, too -- a similar deal applies to Project Morpheus.

Members of the PC gaming elite and console players with add-on hardware have been live streaming their gaming exploits for years, but a new generation of consoles means everyone's 15 minutes of fame one step closer. While many gamers are unpacking new Xbox Ones tonight, one couple has used a PS4, Sony's Playroom demo, the PS4 Eye camera add-on and Twitch to broadcast a studio-style show. Regis Michael Strahan and Kelly they're not (for better or worse), but the show is a hit for now, with Sony exec Adam Boyes joining as a call-in guest after its link was RT'd by the official @PlayStation account. You can check out the live stream of The Spartan Show embedded after the break and marvel at how a single game console and the desire to share a DualShock 4 mod has lead to over 1,000 viewers (and growing). We'll see if the teased PS3 raffle comes to fruition, but ambitious gamers may want to polish their studio patter and set building skills before taking on Kimmel, Letterman, Leno and the rest.
