Take heed, citizen: There are spoilers lurking in this launch trailer for the first part of BioShock Infinite's Burial At Sea DLC, as there are in our review of it. To give you the lowdown, Richard thought it was "aggressive, salty and often clumsy" and "all too brief." You can try it out for yourself starting today on the Xbox Games Store, PlayStation Network, and Windows PCs, where it's priced at $15. It's also available via the $20 Season Pass, which includes access to the already released Clash in the Clouds arena pack, the Early Bird Special Pack, and the upcoming second Burial at Sea episode.

This is a review of downloadable content for BioShock Infinite. As such, it may contain spoilers for the main campaign. Ham-fisted is one of my favorite expressions. As a term meaning awkward or graceless, it's wonderfully evocative. You can easily imagine someone desperately trying to shove a ham somewhere it was never meant to go, perhaps into a Volkswagen's gas tank. Or you might picture a fist literally made of ham: two indelicate things, indelicately smashed together It's also a good fit for the first episode of BioShock Infinite's 'Burial at Sea' DLC, which is aggressive, salty and often clumsy.

  • BioShock Infinite DLC heralds the return of the weapon wheel

BioShock Infinite's forthcoming Burial at Sea DLC will re-introduce the series' classic weapon wheel mechanic, level designer Andres Gonzalez revealed during a recent Reddit AMA session. Previously featured in BioShock and BioShock 2, the weapon wheel pauses in-game action while players select from an arsenal of available firearms and abilities. BioShock Infinite ditched the mechanic in favor of a new system that limited players to two equipped weapons at any given time. Gonzales notes that the wheel mechanic will make its return alongside new plasmids and weapons exclusive to the Infinite's Burial at Sea chapters. "I can tell you that for Burial at Sea: Episode 1 we added new weapon, a new Plasmid, new Gear, Tears and we brought back the weapon wheel," Gonzalez said. "As far as upgrades go, there are upgrades available for Plasmids and you can upgrade the new weapon."

If you've somehow avoided accumulating a backlog over the year or just enjoy the act of spending money, Steam and Amazon have some weekend gaming deals to help you burn cash. Steam enthusiasts can splurge on the service's 2K Games Weekend, which includes Bioshock Infinite for $13.59 $26.79 and Civilization 5, Spec Ops: The Line and Borderlands 2 for $14.99 apiece. PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate is $9.99, or if you say to hell with the past decade, 1998's Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is an even $5. Amazon has blacked out $30 from The Bureau: XCOM Declassified's price on Xbox 360 and PS3 while knocking the PC version down to $19.99. Splinter Cell: Blacklist has crept its way to $39.99 for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U, but you can gear up for a special mission with its Aircraft Edition for $99.99 on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. If you'd rather get ready for the PlayStation 4, Amazon is also offering $30 of bonus credit towards a DualShock 4 if you trade in $30 worth of qualifying video games. You can check to see if anything you're willing to part with is eligible through the search function on the promotion's page. Update: The 66 percent off deal for Bioshock Infinite has passed. The game is now available for $26.79, 33 percent off of the initial price.

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea Episode 1, the first of two pieces of downloadable content that return players to BioShock's city of Rapture, will be available this holiday season. During a recent visit to Irrational Games, studio head Ken Levine said part one will be out "before the holiday" and there's still uncertainty about episode two. Irrational's Director of Marketing Leonie Manshandan said, "It's not done yet, we don't have a date yet." We covered some of the details (no spoilers) of episode one in our video preview. Episode two will have players take a walk in Elizabeth's shoes. The two packs are priced at $14.99 apiece, but can also be purchased in the BioShock Infinite Season Pass.

Return to Rapture in BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea Episode 1. Heavy on narrative and paced more like the original BioShock, this downloadable content pack reintroduces Elizabeth as a femme fatale with a job that only a gumshoe like Booker DeWitt can handle. Trying our best to avoid spoiler territory, our video recap of this first of two Burial at Sea episodes covers how this noir-infused DLC tears itself from BioShock Infinite.

  • Steam weekend sales: 2K games, Baldur's Gate and Final Fantasy 7

Look, we know things have been rough ever since the government shut down. Cars have become sentient; peach cobbler is now physically impossible to produce – it's not easy out there. Still, there are some things we can depend on in these tough times, such as the persistence and regularity of sales on Steam. From now through 10 a.m. Pacific on Monday, October 7, a growing selection of 2k Games-published jams have gone under the discount knife, including BioShock Infinite ($26.79), XCOM: Enemy Unknown ($9.99) and a whole bunch of others. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy 7 is half-off at $5.99 and Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition can be snagged for a thin $5. Granted, these sales may not make up for the fact that our nation's stop signs now act as portals to Ung'Thagar's Darkest Dark Moon, but every little bit helps until the government comes back online and this all gets straightened out.

The price of a ticket to reach the floating city of Columbia just got a whole lot cheaper. If you're looking to play Irrational Games' latest, BioShock Infinite, the game has been reduced to $20 on the Xbox Games Store. There's no telling whether this is a permanent price reduction or limited-time sale, so if you're interested, you may want to act fast. BioShock Infinite launched earlier this year and has since issued one DLC pack, the Clash in the Clouds arena combat pack. Another add-on episode, Burial at Sea, is also in the works and takes players down to Andrew Ryan's underwater metropolis Rapture – the setting for the first BioShock game.

Disney Infinity players on Xbox 360, Wii U and PS3 now have five free custom-built toy boxes to check out, courtesy of Disney Interactive. Among the five levels offered is "Toy Columbia," described as a "sprawling city in the sky with infinite possibilities." The level looks strikingly similar to the same Columbia in BioShock Infinite, though Disney doesn't (or rather, can't) say it outright. The other four toy boxes now available are Sky Gauntlet, Jungle Cruise, Trench Run and Blue Breakout. Disney Infinity is also available on PC and 3DS, though the DLC wasn't mentioned for those platforms in Disney's announcement.

  • BioShock Infinite is the Mac game of the year

    by
    Michael Grothaus

    08.30.2013

BioShock Infinite, one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time, has come to the Mac via the Mac App Store. Originally released for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in March, its mix of jaw-dropping graphics, first-person shooter action, story and social commentary regarding racism, American exceptionalism and religious fundamentalism has led many to call it the best game of this decade so far and earned it over 85 prestigious awards. The game is the third installment in the BioShock series, but players don't need any knowledge of the first two installments as BioShock Infinite stands on its own with new characters and storyline. You play as Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, who is sent to the floating city of Columbia to find a mysterious woman named Elizabeth who has quantum powers. Though the city of Columbia floats in the sky, the game takes place in 1912. Yet many critics have noted that the themes in the game reflect the political, religious, plutocratic and populist divides in America running up to the 2012 elections. Besides typical weapons like guns, other items include a hook that allows you to zip around and between buildings on Columbia's rail system known as the Skyline, telekinetic powers and gangs of murderous crows (trust me, it makes sense in the game). As for how the game runs on the Mac, it's not much different than playing it on a PlayStation or Xbox, provided you have a fast enough computer. Any iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air bought in the last few years should handle the game just fine. The official system requirements are a Mac running OS X 10.8.3 or later, 2.2 GHz CPU speed, 4 GB of RAM, 512 MB of video RAM and 30GB of free disk space. The game itself is a 17.9 GB download. The minimum video card requirements are a Radeon HD 3870 or a GeForce 640M graphics card. If your Mac meets the minimum requirements, buy this game. I'm not even a big first-person shooter fan, but I've been only playing the game for a day and its story is so compelling that it's sucked me right in. Aspyr has done an outstanding job porting BioShock Infinite to the Mac, which looks and runs beautifully on a machine like the latest MacBook Pro with Retina display. Best of all, like any game bought from the Mac App Store, no CD or authentication is required, so you can just download and launch and you're in the game with very little load time. The game is also Game Center-compatible. BioShock Infinite is US$39.99.

BioShock Infinite hit the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in March. Now, as if spurred on by the same Manifest Destiny it rails against, BioShock Infinite has come to conquer the Mac. Though BioShock Infinite was initially developed by Irrational Games, publisher 2K Games has tapped prominent Mac porting house Aspyr Media to handle the OS X incarnation. Apple devotees hoping to enjoy the adventure can now find BioShock Infinite on both Steam and in the OS X App Store with a price tag of $40. Alternately, Steam codes for BioShock Infinite are available at most Apple game retailers or through Aspyr's GameAgent website, the company says.

BioShock Infinite's Burial at Sea DLC is a noir nostalgia trip to Rapture, the city in the ocean featured in BioShock 1 and 2, and Elizabeth's outfit gets an update befitting the new theme. Irrational provides an image of Elizabeth in five angles, ostensibly so cosplayers can start planning their sewing equipment accordingly. Get a (much) closer look here. There's no word on if we'll get a sneak peek of Booker's new threads, too. Burial at Sea is in two episodes, both set in Rapture two years before it falls to ruin. The first episode stars Infinite protagonist Booker Dewitt, and the second stars Elizabeth. Players will get new plasmids and vigors, new weapons, dimensional tears, Big Daddies and skylines – and, of course, a new perspective on Rapture. Episodes one and two are $15 each, with a release date on its way.

In-game replica aficionados can nab one of fifty limited bottles signed by Irrational Games' Creative Director, Ken Levine, for the red-hot price of $600. For an unknown amount in medical bills, your local hospital will treat any burns sustained while attempting to recreate your favorite moments with BioShock Infinite's fire-based ability. [Ed.
