The excellent and addictive Puzzle Quest gets half off this week for Xbox Live Gold Members. Major Nelson sends word by necromantic carrier pigeon that the jewel-dropping epic will cost a mere 400 ($5). Even if you aren't interested in the game at the moment, may we suggest picking it up as a "boredom insurance policy?" Seriously, the first time you get bored, just boot up Puzzle Quest and you'll come out of the trance sometime the following week. Hey, listen ... we said it was an insurance policy against boredom -- nothing about you being able to keep your job, spouse or grades after starting. In celebration of the upcoming Penny Arcade Expo, this week's Xbox Live Marketplace Deal of the Week is none other than Gabe & Tycho's second adventure: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode Two. Normally 1200 ($15 USD), the Hothead Games' episodic RPG has been reduced to 800 ($10 USD) in Microsoft funny-money.The sale also begs the question, "Where da heck is Penny Arcade: Episode Three?!" Hopefully Hothead Games and the guys at Penny Arcade will be able to tell us all about the next game in the series when PAX 2009 kicks off on Friday, September 4. Make sure to keep refreshing Joystiq all weekend long as a slew of our minions will be on hand for the community friendly event.Queue up the XBLM Deal of the Week: Penny Arcade - Episode 2%Gallery-31010%

  • PSA: Lost and Damned is Deal of the Week for $15

In case you'd forgotten, Major Nelson reminded us this morning that this week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week is the Grand Theft Auto IV expansion, The Lost and Damned. Rather than running you the standard price of 1600 ($20), the motorcycle gang-themed DLC will only cost 1200 ($15) this week.Considering how many games have already headed into the "early 2010" release window, we wouldn't be surprised to see the retail compilation of The Lost and Damned with The Ballad of Gay Tony slip to next year. Hopefully this week's discount on the former is a precursor to the latter getting a release date or, well, any info at all since it was announced back in May. In the meantime, at lease we're getting a discount!%Gallery-37692%

  • Incoming Xbox Deals of the Week: Lost and Damned, Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 2

How often is the Xbox Live Deal of the Week actually exciting? Not this week, at least, but it will be this month! On August 24, Microsoft will offer something pretty tempting: Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and Damned for 1200 ($15), 5 bucks off the normal asking price for the Grand Theft Auto IV expansion. If you're the guy who bought GTA IV on 360 but hasn't picked this up yet -- and you don't want to wait for Episodes from Liberty City -- now's a great time to pick up a new set of missions to give up on halfway through the game, in favor of just doing awesome bike jumps. The announcement also reveals that a deal for Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 2 is incoming, so ... you know, don't buy it yet. Also, a Halo 3 Dashboard theme that you really don't need to buy ever.

  • R-Type finally comes down to a reasonable price for deal of the week

Xbox Live gold members can pick up R-Type Dimensions for the reduced price of 800 ($10) this week. How is that reduced, you ask? Well, for some strange reason, the side-scrolling shmup is normally a tad on the expensive side at 1200 ($15).At present, though, its probably best to spend those Microsoft space bucks on the excellent 'Splosion Man or wait a couple weeks until Shadow Complex releases. However, if you gotta have the R-Type, at least you'll get a deal on the game this week. Add R-Type Dimensions to your queue %Gallery-34074%

  • XBLM 'Deal of the Week' is Far Cry 2 DLC

Now this is the Xbox Live Deal of the Week that we know and don't love. After a month of decent deals (plus one week of The Force Unleashed marketing), the Deal of the Week has returned to its roots: DLC for a game that came out last year. The game in question is Far Cry 2. The DLC in question is the Fortunes Pack, which includes three weapons, two vehicles and four multiplayer maps. Usually 400 ($5), Deal of the Week status knocks it down to only 240 ($3). We suppose it might be a good deal if you're still playing Far Cry 2. Then again, if you're still playing Far Cry 2, you probably have the Fortunes Pack already.Thank goodness, we'd almost forgotten the empty, tepid feeling that the Deal of the Week can inspire. Welcome back, complete indifference!

After new achievements were discovered for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, it's no surprise that the marketing machine is ramping up again for the game. Major Nelson notes that this week's "deal" on Xbox Live's marketplace is the "Jedi Temple Mission Pack" for 400 ($5). That's half off the normal price and is available only to gold members. The pack, which was originally released last December, follows The Apprentice as he searches through the rubble of the Jedi Temple to learn more about his father. The pack also comes with three new outfits made out of ... well, we never did find out what happened to those Bothans.

Xbox Live's "Deal of the Week" has been pretty solid lately as evidenced by its latest offering: Ikaruga for a paltry 400 ($5)!The polarity flipping shmup is considered to be the thinking man's entry into the "blast everything" genre. This is about as good as an arcade deal gets, and with the prices of this year's "Summer of Arcade," we'll take all the savings we're granted.[Add Ikaruga to your download queue]%Gallery-17189%

This week's Xbox Live "Deal of the Week" is Metanet's N+ for 560 ($7). This confirms Friday's post by Metanet that the game ....wait a second.Metanet stated that the game would be "50% off," which means that the game, regularly priced at 800 ($10), should be 400 ($5)! Back up our mathematicals here, people. Did someone change the rules of percentages over the weekend and not send out a memo?Update: OK, now it's 400 ($5).Add N+ to your Xbox 360 download queue

The developer states that the title will be sold at 50 percent off, making it 400 ($5) and a must buy.Of course, as we've learned countless times, nothing is official until Microsoft says so on Monday. Check back next week for final confirmation -- and loads of sad emoticons if the company decides otherwise.

  • XBLM Deal of the Week: Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

In what will assuredly be the longest headline for any Xbox Live Deal of the Week post we'll ever run, Microsoft's offering a $5 reduction in price (from 1200 to 800) on Capcom's Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix this week. That's right, folks -- you're reading this correctly. We're on the second week straight that the Xbox Live Deal of the Week was something worthwhile and not, say, DLC from a three year old game or, erm, DLC from a two year old game. We're not quite sure that the big M and Xbox Live are giving Steam a run for its money with deals quite yet, but we are plopping down our virtual bucks that much more frequently on the service as of late. Here's hoping that we'll keep seeing tasty deals like this rather than some of the ... ahem ... less than savory items we've seen in the past.

How about that, this week's XBLM Deal of the Week is actually a deal. This week, you can snag the Fallout 3 "Operation: Anchorage" DLC for 560 ($7), 30 percent off the usual price of 800 ($10). Granted, you can pick up a used copy of the recently released "Operation: Anchorage" and "The Pitt" combo pack for about $15 at GameStop, but this download-only deal is still pretty decent. At any rate, it certainly stacks up better than most of the "deals" we usually see.Add Operation: Anchorage to your Xbox 360 download queue

  • Gears 2 Combustible map pack is Xbox's insulting deal of the week

Major Nelson brings word of another bad deal for Xbox's "deal of the week." The latest laughable offer is that the Gears of War 2 Combustible map pack is discounted from 800 ($10) to the jaw-dropping price of 560 ($7). Hold on, let us get the Sham Wow to absorb the drool of shock dribbling out of our mouths. So, basically, if you haven't downloaded any of the new Gears of War 2 map packs yet, going online and downloading them breaks down like this: Combustible maps (560 / $7) - available now Snowblind maps (800 / $10) - available now Dark Corners (1200 / $15) - available July 28 That comes to a grand total of $32 dollars, $12 more expensive than purchasing All Fronts, which includes all of this stuff (and more!) for 1600 ($20) when it releases July 28. It's a sucker punch (not the good kind) for this content to go on sale now.[Add the Gears 2: Combustible Multiplayer Map Pack to your download queue ... although we recommend you don't.] %Gallery-39355%

Major Nelson received accurate information this week indicating that the Xbox "deal of the week" would be Bionic Commando Rearmed for 400 ($5). A small reminder: to take advantage of the deal, you must have an Xbox Live gold membership, otherwise it'll show as the standard 800 ($10). It's also worth noting that the Metacritic average for BCR is an 85, while the super new and flashy Bionic Commando is 70. Which one is getting five of your dollars?

Sorry, after the Bionic Commando Rearmed Xbox "deal of the week" was yanked, we found the bottom of a couple pint glasses. Anyway, the actual deal this week is Marvel Ultimate Alliance's H/V Pack for 560 ($7) -- a pitiful $3 off some DLC from 2007. It's time we talked seriously about hiring a disapproving church lady to sit in Microsoft's marketing office with a stern look on her face. On a good note, this "deal" was so lambasted in the comments of Major Nelson's post that he said, "I'll pass your comments along to the Marketing team."

Major Nelson notes that this week's Xbox "deal of the week" (which actually lives up to its name, for once) is Bionic Commando Rearmed for 400 ($5). That's less than what you'll spend at the McDonalds drive-thru -- and a whole lot healthier. The only thing diminishing our fanfare of this deal is that the PSN already dropped the BCR price last week. Either way, the price is something worth jumping for joy over. Sorry, Radd. Too soon for jumping jokes? Update: The Major was apparently given misinformation. BCR is still $5 on PS3's PSN.

It's quite the coincidence that after challenging our brains week after week about how the Xbox "Deal of the Week" is determined, Brain Challenge ends up becoming this week's offering. The glorified mobile app isn't "bad," but we still have to think real hard if it's worth the 400 ($5) price -- at its standard 800 ($10) price, we feel a purchase would put us in the same category as Abby Normal's cerebral matter. If you're in the market for some cranial exercise, this would be the week to get the Brain Age clone. Just be prepared to learn that a purchase is unlikely to make you any smarter.[Add Brain Challenge to your Xbox 360 download queue]%Gallery-14098%
