I've never seen the tipbox filled so full, and this column takes longer and longer to put together every week. I think it's great-- Blizzard made this bosses to be killed, right? Alliance leaders slaughtered on Moon Guard
Good news from Moon Guard-- despite a despicable assault by the Alliance on the Horde outpost of Orgrimmar, the valiant Horde there have grabbed their sword and fought the.. Alliance, taking the battle straight to their capital cities. Ok, "factionalism" aside, what the Horde on Moon Guard did is pretty impressive. They downed Velen, Bolvar, Mekkatorque, Magni, Staghelm (yay!), Tyrande, and Jaina. I'm surprised they didn't storm into Northshire Abbey and down Paxton, just for completeness' sake.And just like we said on last week's podcast, it's a shame that they didn't get much for their trouble. High level faction targets give a little honor, and they give some money, but other than that, there are no major rewards for the downings. A special title or a factionwide buff would be great, and wouldn't cause overfarming chaos in these cities, which we believe is Blizzard's main reason for keeping these bosses lootless.At any rate, grats to all the guilds on Moon Guard (the Horde guilds, and the Alliance guilds that killed Thrall and brought on this slaughter) for making this happen. Blizzard won't give you much but a little honor and some change, but we'll give you our gratitude for making sure there is war in Warcraft.Thanks, Paul!
Leading casual raids, and doing it well
This must be the season for casual raiding leaders to get their tips-- both Clockwork Gamer and Sanya Weathers at Guildcafe recently posted some great tips for raidleaders in charge of making sure that dragon ends up dead at the end of the night. If you've found yourself in charge of a large group of MMO characters recently, both writeups are worth a read for sure-- the tips range from the practical (start earlier than you plan, because things will take longer to get started than you think) to the emotional (keep it fun, address drama when it happens, and make sure everyone remembers that these are not the only epic drops they'll ever see).Raidleading is a tough little pasttime, and casual raidleading more than anything-- people are on your raid with all kinds of different reasons and a larger variation of abilities and gear. I especially like Clockwork Gamer's mantra: "raiding is dying," and that's truer with casual raiding than anything else, in any MMO you play in. It's not easy to be a casual raidleader, but these tips will definitely help you get to where it's worth it: a big down on a progression night.
Guildwatch: Caught redhanded, but too late
Who could that be? A former officer of Death Squad-- they had some jerk get promoted to officer in their guild, and then grab their stuff and ditch them, leaving them nothing but this log full of stolen items. Not cool. May all the high progression guilds break up under their own weight, may people take virtual loots way too seriously, and may each and every guildleader think they're the king of the world just because they got a bunch of virtual avatars to click the "Accept" button instead of the other one. We can't think of anything better than a year full of ninjas, drama, and guild breakups to fill this column with.Oh, and all the children of the world to join hands in a spirit of harmony and peace. Guildwatch: Worth every wipe
Week after week, you crash your head up against the wall on a certain boss. It takes time for people to show up for raids, and it takes even more time for people to release, come back, and rez after a wipe. Repair bills go up, raid attendance goes down, tempers flare, guild chat becomes awkward, and GMotD's get harsher and harsher. And then, one day, it all fits. That pull goes perfectly, everyone hits their marks ahead of time, and before long, you're looking at a dead boss and a window full of loot. "Worth every wipe"? First Illidan China kill by The Seven
Just about a month and a half after they first got access to the Burning Crusade, a Chinese guild has downed Illidan Stormrage over the weekend. World of Raids has more, including the fact that it only took 52 days total, and that a Gnome Rogue picked up the offhand. As many are noting, lots of players are still dressed up in Tier 3 gear, which means they just barrelled right through SSC and TK up into the Black Temple.Incgamers has an interesting point, however-- Chinese players, getting BC so late, supposedly had the benefit of all the nerfs and tweaks that Blizzard added to all the encounters since it first was released here. From Vashj's bugginess to the attunement removal, it could be argued (I'll leave this one up to you guys) that China is playing a much easier Outland endgame.At any rate, downing Illidan is always an achievement, no matter what game you're playing. Grats to The Seven in China-- now here's hoping they go back and actually try enjoying that raid content![ via MMO Champion ]

I gotta say, it seems like things are going pretty darn well in Guildwatch land. After the drama of Karazhan, most guilds have things figured out, and while the majority of them are storming through SSC and eventually TK, a few are still running through Karazhan and Gruul. But everyone seems pretty happy, and there's almost no chance Zul'Aman will stop that-- if anything, 10 man instance lovers will be even more thrilled.So what's the next speedbump in guilds' futures? The onset of Death Knights?
