  • TV2ART's Kabe artfully hides your wall-mounted HDTV

Make no mistake, there are quite a few firms out there with solutions for concealing that wall-hung flat-panel, but we see no harm in one more alternative joining the mix. The Zen-inspired Kabe from TV2ART aims to blend one's HDTV into its surroundings by floating just a few inches away from the wall and possessing a slidable painting that can cover up the set when needed or slide out of the way when gameday comes. As expected, the unit is offered in a myriad styles, and interested consumers can even have one crafted from wood, aluminum, copper or just about any other material known to man. As for pricing, the 42- / 50- / 60-inch models will run you at least $2,200 / $2,600 / $3,000, respectively, but each one accommodates displays slightly smaller or larger than the model size itself. %Gallery-18757%

There's absolutely no shortage of ways to geek up the inside of your domicile, but few creations posses the perfect balance of class and geekiness like the ASCII Curtains. Reportedly hand-crafted by designer / artist / undiscovered genius Nieke Sybrandy, these nerdalicious curtains feature a light gray tree motif that is compiled entirely from code. Breathtaking, no? Hit the read link for one more look -- and don't even bother phoning up Bed Bath & Beyond, we already tried.[Via gearcrave, thanks William]

var digg_url = 'http://www.digg.com/nintendo/Valentine_s_Day_for_the_gamer_in_your_life'; Valentine's Day might be all about spending ridiculous amounts of money on crap sharing sweet moments with that special someone, but that doesn't mean that those moments -- and the gifts -- can't be tailored to your specific quirks. If you're blessed with a significant other with a particular gaming-related fandom, why not get creative and find gaming-friendly ways to juice up the holiday? Wii Fanboy is here to help, of course, with some holiday gift ideas for all the gamers out there who view the approaching holiday with the utmost dread. From the traditional candy and glittering jewelry to ... well, gifts of a more unique variety, we've got everything you need (if it's Nintendo-related).And, for the really clueless, we've also got some handy tips on what not to buy. Valentine's Day gift-giving can be dangerous. You don't want to be beaten with violence when your S.O. starts opening boxes, after all.

  • Walking Chair tests your dedication to laziness, extravagance

Anyone can go into Office Depot and pick up a rolling desk seat for fifty bucks, but it takes a truly lazy individual to shell out almost $22,000 for a chair that very slowly "walks" you into proper working position. Actually, we doubt that the commercially-available Walking Chair from Vienna-based design studio Walking Things is really built for sitting; it's more likely meant as a showpiece for the ridiculous amount of disposable income you're pulling in. Each minimalist eight-legged unit is hand-assembled upon order, meaning that you'll need to wait at least six weeks to show your friends how very little €15,000 ($21,906) mean to you.[Via Slashgear]

Every time we're convinced that we're the ultimate DS fans (we're DS Fanboy, after all), someone comes along to show us up. This time it's reader Eric, who put together such a collection of DS-centric media that he had to build a special set of shelves just to hold it all. We're in awe, frankly, and a little jealous we didn't think of it first. So what's in Eric's special DS center? Walkthroughs for games compiled over the years (see: binders), the DSLife podcast (burned to CD for posterity), oh, and hey, games. Those are important!Got something you want to show off to all the other DS fans? We like just about anything with a little Nintendo flavor, so snap a few pics and send 'em off to tell us what's up, and send it all to showmeit [at] dsfanboy [dot] com. We'll take care of the rest.%Gallery-12578%

You won't need your binoculars to spy on the neighbours this time around, as citizens of Norrath have opened their doors to the public to let everyone take a gander at Frostfell's unique decorations being put to use. Even before the holiday furniture and decorations had been made live on regular EverQuest II servers, we were able to see what it all looked like courtesy of EQ2 Traders on Test, but this collection of shots at EQ2 Players shows off the different ways in which people have arranged and designed their festive displays in their own in-game housing. Each stunning setup is accompanied by the responsible player's name and server, and there are 28 shots available for browsing. If checking out these screenshots leaves you wanting to pimp out your own crib, it's worth nothing that EQ2 Traders have updated their list of Frostfell furniture to help you decide what belongs in your own holiday-themed exhibit.

Niami Denmother and her team at EQ2 Traders Corner have once again been busy, this time cataloging tradeskill content that has been included in the recent Game Update 41 on the EverQuest II test server. The new items have been crafted and photographed for your enjoyment, including Frostfell-themed goodies. The preview includes a look at how to obtain some of the Frostfell recipes and ingredients, and a gallery of both furniture and clothing items that are available for Frostfell 2007. It's not all Frostfell-related crafting items that come with Game Update 41 either, and the preview page includes details on some new candles, lamps, and dishes for your in-game home.So you like what you've seen and can't wait until this is all available on your normal server? In that case, you can get your fill of GU41 right now on the test server -- but it shouldn't be too long before it's live.

    12.05.2007

Hot on the heels of the enormous Wiimote cabinet comes an absolutely gigantic Xbox 360 that truly has to be seen to be appreciated. Thankfully, there's a video of the thing waiting in the read link, but this beastly player opens up to reveal the perfect storage area for periodicals and pamphlets that are sure to collect dust and rarely ever be touched by human hands again. Additionally, a light was added behind the power button (no, it's not red) for good measure, but last we heard, the original Xbox controller (aka Duke) was no longer on speaking terms with its biological cousin (pictured).[Thanks, J]

We're not exactly sure why folks aren't as inclined to create confections, earrings and door unlockers with those other controllers, but something about the Wiimote just brings out the craftsman in DIY'ers at large. This go 'round, Craig has constructed a functioning cabinet that closely resembles Nintendo's heralded controller. Unfortunately, we have all ideas that it won't actually enable you to participate in any Mario Party 8 mini-games, but considering that there's no wrist strap tacked on the bottom, we wouldn't recommend whirling this about, anyway. Check out a few more shots over at the read link.[Via NintendoWiiFanboy]

Earlier today we linked to EQ2 Traders Corner's article on harvested resources found in EverQuest II's upcoming Rise of Kunark expansion. This wasn't the only hard work that they did to document their creative journeys in Kunark, as we now bring you their tier 8 furniture showcase. There are nearly 60 screenshots in this gallery of brand new crafted furniture, from the expected lighting, bed, table and bookshelf items, to other more unique things such as weighing scales and hourglasses. Some of the paintings that can be made look particularly nice, and will surely be a popular choice for those wanting to shake up the aesthetics of their housing. If you're less concerned with what these items look like, and more with what they can actually do for you, the page also tells us that the common items will reduce rent status by 125, and the rare items by 1100. Have a window shop for things you'd like to buy in the expansion via the related story link, and there is more still to come from EQ2 Traders Corner later on.

If you're the proud new owner of a Lord of the Rings Online abode, and are going through the pains of organizing and decorating, then this guide may be right up your alley. Hot on the heels of Book 11's player-housing, LotroLife.com have started a furniture catalogue to help make life easier for citizens of Middle Earth who are settling in to a new home. The catalogue, still in beta and being added to, contains a listing of house-items by type. Clicking through to a category, and then an individual item, will bring up a picture of said item, a short description, the cost, and exactly where to get a hold of it. Very handy! The items can also be selected directly from a drop-down menu.As more things will undoubtedly be added in the future, the site may be worth a bookmark if you feel you may have an ongoing affair with decking out your place. After all, the next time your neighbours visit to smoke some pipe-weed, you want them leaving jealous, don't you?

  • Steelcase's Walkstation marries desk and treadmill

    10.19.2007

Anyone who reads the fine site Book of Joe knows that the man behind the blogging empire is religiously devoted to working out while writing, and prides himself on having integrated a treadmill into his workspace. Well manufacturer Steelcase thinks that this trend has grown beyond one individual multitasking in his underwear, and is poised to introduce a nicely-designed product called the Walkstation which seems more at home in a CEO's office than your messy living room. Not many details are available on this converged piece of furniture co-designed by the Mayo Clinic's Dr. James Levine (who's been working in this specialized field for at least two years, apparently), but supposedly there's an all day demo going down on October 25th at 4 Columbus Circle if you happen to be in the New York area. And if you do go, try to show up in a cab just to be ironic.Update: We've learned -- unsurprisingly, from the Joe mentioned above -- that this rig will retail for a cool $6,500, thereby making it the Rolls Royce of integrated workstations. Thanks, Joe, and keep, um, running for the stars!Update 2: Whoops, guess there's no demo going on after all. You can still show up to that address, we guess, but you certainly won't have the good time you would have had working and exercising simultaneously.

  • Panasonic goes Ikea with concept furniture for flat panels

    10.05.2007

It looks like Panasonic is venturing a bit beyond its electronics-laden comfort zone, with the company recently showing off some concept furniture designed specifically for flat panel displays (or, more specifically, its flat panel displays). For that, Panasonic turned to Swedish designer Axel Bjurström, who appears to have produced at least three designs accommodating a variety of different size screens. The least conventional of the lot is the "Stege" model pictured above, which we can only assume is designed to go along with some magical cordless TVs and other gear Panasonic has yet to announce. The remaining concepts (seen after the break courtesy of Fosfor Gadgets) include the "Ridå," which conceals your 50-inch+ screen behind a curtain, and the Staffli, which opts for an less-than-practical easel-type design.

Or maybe that should read, "from the workshop," but hey, we're here for the funny. We've seen Tetris-themed shelves before, from the homemade variety to the type reserved for rich folks with taste, and one and all, they make us lust for some block-built shelves of our own. The cunningly-fitted wooden sections would surely bring a particular charm to any gaming space, but the presence of so many plain wooden versions does beg one question: why aren't any of them painted in multiple colors? Oh well. We who only envy don't really get a say, do we? Clayton, we want your shelves. Feel free to pack up all your gear and ship that off as well. Thanks, buddy.Clayton tells us that this is an older picture of the shelves he lovingly crafted for his media, and we can only imagine how they must look now, groaning with the weight of an ever-increasing collection. We salute you, Tetris fan ... and may we recommend these for your cold beverages? Hit the break to see the shelves in full, and don't forget to show us what you have in the way of awesome gaming gear. From crafts to cakes to collections ... whatever you've got, if it has a little Nintendo flavor, we want to see it. Just take some pictures (or copy your web album links) and send them to showmeit [at] dsfanboy [dot] com. We'll take care of the rest.

DS owners -- and Nintendo fans in general! -- sure seem to love crafts. We've celebrated everything from cases to homemade gaming centers here, with plushies and painted systems and tons more in between. Have you ever experimented with a few gaming-themed crafts of your own, even if it was something as simple as a duct-taped case or using a sock to hold your handheld? Maybe the latter only counts if you decorated said sock, but we'll give you some leeway. Tell us if you've tried out a crafting project, or if you've maybe gotten a craftier friend to do the deed for you. Some couples even find that this is a way for both halves to share in gaming, even if one isn't much interested in the actual playing of the actual games.

What do you do when you realize that you need some custom-built gaming furniture, but you don't have your own personal in-house carpentry ninja? If you are as lucky as reader Raquor, you call up the family. His grandfather sacrificed a few trees on his farm, dried them, and chopped them into manageable pieces in his saw mill. For the record, we think having your own handy saw mill is pretty useful, and Raquor's granddad is welcome to adopt us.With a little assembly, Raquor was able to construct a combination rack-and-drawer system that was just perfect for his gaming collection ... at the time. See, the thing about collections is that they tend to expand, and he reports that these days, some less desirable titles are hidden away in the drawers with a plethora of extra controllers. Hey, so long as it looks good from the outside, we won't tell anyone what you've got in your drawers.Hit the break to see the full-size rack in all its organized glory, and don't forget to show us what you have in the way of awesome gaming gear. From crafts to cakes to collections ... whatever you've got, if it has a little Nintendo flavor, we want to see it. • Mirror Collage Plasma TV Cabinet conceals your set, decorates room

In most cases, tactfully hanging your PDP on a wall could pass as a piece of art, and while there are certainly alternatives out there for those too hesitant to hang, this creation certainly ups the ante. The Mirror Collage Plasma TV Cabinet spans far enough around to accommodate "most 50-inch plasmas," and as the picture above depicts, it covers your set with a variety of mirrors that not only block your display, but purportedly "create the illusion of more space" in your room. Of course, the real draw here is that this piece is precisely what we fellows have been needing to convince our better halves to let us adorn a wall with a television -- the only problem, however, is that staggering $4,649 price tag that comes along with it.[Via Luxist]

What's a gamer to do when the collection threatens to take over the world ... or at least, your living area? If you're reader Andrew, you make sure you have an amazing wife who will build and design a custom armoire sized to fit your oldest loves. We're pretty sure our own retro-lover is gonna start buying his wife drafting paper and DIY guides after seeing this one.Becky, who is clearly a ninja, secretly counted, weighed, and measured Andrew's collection and designed this gaming center to hold everything he needs for a relaxing day of play. The drawers are sized perfectly for his games -- with extra room! -- and with the help of her family, she constructed the whole thing for him. Andrew, who admits he's not very handy, claims he got to help with a few of the "simpler things." We just hope that included thanking her profusely with hugs, flowers, and games of her choice. Check out the gallery to see some more shots of this custom-designed wonder. She even alphabetized all the games for him! Now that's love -- and the kind of understanding a gaming couple can share.%Gallery-5997%Got something you want to show off? While some things may take you back, the Lite Table manages to warp you way back. Upon first glance, there's absolutely no doubt where this masterpiece of a table got its inspiration, and for those who wasted hours on end moving pegs and devising new Lite Bright creations as a wee lad (or dame), any price would seem reasonable for this. Granted, this piece has been spotted before, but thanks to Jellio, what appears to be a fanboy's creation is actually available for purchase. What's it gonna take? A mere $600, a whole lot of patience, and a prime spot in the living room to show your youngsters that grown-ups can still relate.[Via UberReview]

We've told you about Tetris shelves before ... but to get the configuration in that post, it'll run you about $7000. Ouch. Definitely not cheap, although they sure look pretty cool.If you want to do it yourself and save all that dough to buy things to actually put in the shelves, then what you need is an instructable that shows you the know-how. Although we mentioned these recently in a post about Tetris ice cubes (so cool ... get it?), we felt they deserved a spot of their own to give you all a summer project to work on.If any Joystiq readers are ambitious enough to build these (and how about some color shelves too, eh?) then be sure to take photos and let us know about it.
