If you were wondering what ArenaNet has planned for the fall break in Guild Wars 2's living world story content, wonder no more: The studio has just announced the September feature pack, which brings both PvE and PvP upgrades to the game. "Living World Season 2 will be going on break for a while as we count down to the arrival of the [feature pack]," says lead developer Colin Johanson. "You can look forward to the return of Season 2 in autumn, and we'll announce the start date for episode 5 after the feature pack has been released." ArenaNet's attention at Gamescom, however, has been focused on competitive play. In keeping with its e-sports goals, the studio unveiled the World Tournament Series, a Guild Wars 2 competitive championship co-sponsored by Chinese publisher KongZhong. With its $150,000 prize pool, the series will draw qualifying players from the upcoming Tournament of Glory and debut in Beijing this fall. [Source: ArenaNet press release]

Swedish developer Poppermost will bring its open-world skiing game Snow to PlayStation 4 as well as PC, which gets additional Oculus Rift support. Snow arrived on Steam's Early Access service in October and is expected to move into a closed beta phase by the end of the year as a free-to-play game. The game is console-exclusive to the PS4. Those that want to check out the Early Access version on PC can pick up founders packs with alpha passes and in-game items, ranging from $15 to $60. Poppermost crammed eight square kilometers of open space and alpine terrain into its first game, which is powered by Crytek's Cryengine. In Snow, players thumb through hundreds of items in the game's catalog to equip their riders with 11 pieces of gear simultaneously before hitting the slopes to perform tricks. [Image: Poppermost]

The mysterious interactive horror game Sony teased during its Gamescom press conference? It may just be a window into the future of Konami's Silent Hill franchise. Completing the interactive teaser while streaming on Twitch, user "SoapyWarpig" unlocked a cutscene featuring a desolate town. After title cards reveal a collaboration between Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and Hellboy director Guillermo Del Toro, the camera pulls out to reveal the cutscene's only character, The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus. Then a title card reaches into our cold dead hearts and massages them back to life with the words: Silent Hills. Is it a game? A digital film? The greatest hoax perpetuated by man? We've asked Konami for details and our friends for a brown paper bag for us to finish hyperventilating in.

  • Gamescom 2014: SMITE heading for the Xbox One

Has your purchase of a next-gen console been reliant on finding out which one of them will get a MOBA on it? Your wait is now over. SMITE is set to launch on the Xbox One via the platform's ID@Xbox program at some point in 2015, as announced today during the Xbox Gamescom event. No specific dates have yet been announced for the port. COO Todd Harris stated that the game's third-person viewpoint makes it a natural fit to control with a console gamepad rather than a mouse and keyboard, leading to an easy conversion. Details of how the program will work with online connectivity and the possibility of requiring an Xbox Live subscription have not yet been revealed (unsurprisingly, since the program was only just announced). Keep your eyes peeled for more information through the tail end of the year, since the launch won't be happening until 2015. [Thanks to Sorenthaz for the tip!]

  • Gamescom 2014: Destiny's first expansion, The Dark Below, arrives in December

Bungie Director of Production Jonty Barnes just announced at Gamescom that Destiny's first expansion, The Dark Below, will arrive in December, just a few months after the game officially launches. Bungie also released a new competitive multiplayer trailer. Aliens are threatening our way of life and our very existence, but that doesn't mean that we can't take a break from combating this common threat and squabble amongst ourselves, right? Destiny will allow just that with its competitive multiplayer mode, also known as "PvP" if you're new to MMOs. This game mode will take place in the Crucible, a skirmish arena full of good hidey-holes and a ton of objectives for teams to accomplish. There will be special gear that can be attained by duking it out, so at least you have that justification when your commanding officer asks why you're not out there fighting the invaders. The video is below.

For someone who supposedly vanished, Ethan Carter seems to be getting around. Already announced for PC, it was revealed at Sony's Gamescom press conference today that The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will also arrive on PS4. The game promises a spooky, first-person mystery inspired by the likes of H.P. Lovecraft and other, similar fiction from the early 20th century. Don't worry about keeping the lights on though, as developer The Astronauts describes the atmosphere as not one of terror, but rather of "clammy unease." The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will arrive on PC in "a few weeks," while the PS4 release is slated for next year. Watch Ethan Carter's new Gamescom trailer after the break. [Image: The Astronauts]

Wild is the debut title of Wild Sheep Studios, the studio Ancel recently announced to the world. "We wanted to focus on a single platform, and PS4 was clearly the best fit," Ancel said during the announcement, on Sony's stage at the PlayStation press conference. "Our concept is based on experiencing new situations every time you play." Despite forming the new studio, Ubisoft says that Ancel remains a member of its Ubisoft Montpellier team. Someone has to remind them they announced a Beyond Good & Evil sequel from time to time, right?

  • Tearaway Unfolded coming to PlayStation 4

Media Molecule took the stage at Sony's Gamescom press conference to announce Tearaway Unfolded, an upgraded, enhanced version of the Vita's Tearaway slated to hit the PlayStation 4 next year. Developing for the PlayStation 4 allowed Media Molecule to add wholly new gimmicks. One such gimmick featured a player exploring the game world by using the lightbar on his PlayStation 4 as a makeshift flashlight that can only illuminate objects in the game. Another saw a player catch an object thrown by a character in the game, only to shake it up, fling it back and destroy a building in the background. Don't be confused by these new tricks, however. This is not a new game. Instead, Media Molecule claims that Tearaway Unfolded is the "same overall journey as the Vita, only on the big screen." Following the press conference, the PlayStation.blog posted additional information on Tearaway. Almost all of it is contained in the trailer below the break, but keep in mind that the game will run at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second when it makes its PlayStation 4 debut.
