We already know Amazon is offering some exclusive skins for your avatar in Home if you pre-order Killzone 2 from the popular online retailer. Looks like Gamestop and Best Buy wants in on some of that pre-order action, too -- reserving your copy at Gamestop will grant you access to an exclusive demo of the game that begins on February 3rd while patronizing Best Buy will yield you an exclusive PS3 theme. Strangely, Best Buy's pre-order page makes no mention of the complimentary theme [Update: Actually, the free theme from Best Buy is mentioned here], but a promotional e-mail from Sony does. So, which pre-order goody seems the most enticing to you? [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!] Source -- Gamestop Killzone 2 pre-order Source -- Best Buy Killzone 2 pre-order via PSN e-mail

Want to play the Killzone 2 demo? Gamestop is offering a pass to both in-store and online customers who pre-order the game. Those who drop the $5 in store will receive a card that gives access to the demo, while those reserving via the website are promised an email with the code sometime on or after February 3. No details on what the demo will feature. We've poked our Sony contacts to see if there will be other ways to try out the game before its February 27 launch.[Thanks, HeavyToka]

There's no better way to prove you're a Killzone 2 fanboy than to don a Killzone costume in PlayStation Home. amazon.com is offering a unique promo for those that pre-order the upcoming FPS on their site. According to the online retailer, players will receive "costume pieces for your head, torso, legs, hands and feet; you can customize your Home avatar to look like an ISA Soldier, a Helghast Assault Trooper, or something in between." This offer is currently an exclusive to the retailer, so you may want to take advantage of this rather unique deal. The patient types, however, will wait and see what other shops are offering for pre-ordering the game. [Via NeoGAF; Thanks, Noshino!]

The cover of Killzone 2 has just been revealed on the PlayStation.Blog ... and well, it's hard to write about. It's what you'd expect it to look. Helghast eyes stare ominously at you, with the "Only On PlayStation" banner proudly displayed at the top. It may not be surprising, but that's a good thing, right? (Do you want the Killzone 2 cover to have bunnies instead?) Now, we're waiting for info on the please-make-it-happen Limited Edition. [Thanks, TRIX_BOL!]

Killzone 2 is a remarkably divisive game, as noted in the fierce comments to our last hands-on post. Killzone 2 is one of the few games that can get overzealous PS3 fans, insecure 360 fanboys, and downright-confused Wii owners in one place and start a verbal riot. With so much fervor surrounding the title, we decided to simply break down the game and answer some of your more burning questions. When is it coming out?Killzone 2 will be available in North America on February 27, 2009. Expect a "similar timeframe" for European countries. What are the controls like? The controls are much slower than most other FPS games on the market. Instead of running and gunning, you'll be taking cover and aiming down your sights. When behind a wall or object, you'll have to hold the cover button. Releasing it will allow you to peek out and fire your gun. It takes some time to get used to fully first person cover, but it's meant to keep the experience immersive. If you play like the guys at G4, you will die. A lot. (According to G4, that was a developer playing. Whoops!)%Gallery-4719%

February 27, 2009. Mark that date on your calendar. That's the day when North Americans can finally push back the Helghast to the wasteland planet where they came from. The news came out of G4TV where a Sony representative showed off some footage of new weapons for Killzone 2. Watch that vid after the break.Interestingly, Feb. 27 is a Friday and not the usual Tuesday release date we're so used to seeing in North America. Friday is typically the day games come out in Europe, and while SCEE refrains from getting specific, they've told Eurogamer: "We are targeting a similar timeframe for the release of Killzone 2 in the PAL regions." To us, a worldwide release on that day seems very likely.Source 1 - PS.BlogSource 2 - Eurogamer

Ready to jump aboard the Killzone 2 hype train? Sony has announced that Guerilla Games' much-hyped PS3 shooter will infiltrate North America retailers on Friday, February 27, 2009 (via G4), where it will face fierce competition from pretty much no one. As for our friends living across the pond, a Sony UK spokesperson has told Video Gamer that the company is "targeting a similar timeframe for the release of Killzone 2 in the PAL regions." With 84 days until the North America launch, we anticipate a marketing blitz to commence just after the new year.%Gallery-4719%

Whoa, hold on just a second there. Are we reading you right, PS3 Fanboy? Did you just write that UK gamers could win a chance to play Killzone 2's campaign mode tonight? This very night? As in, a few hours from now? Oh, yes dear readers, yes.You see, ThreeSpeech just gave word that there's going to be a private 6pm screening of Aliens tonight at VUE Cinema in Leicester Square (that's in London for every non-Brit reading on with jealousy) and along with this screening comes ten PS3 kiosks blazing with Killzone 2's campaign mode. To attend, SCEE is giving away 35 tickets to UK residents above the age of 18 who also have killzone.com membership. If you happen to meet all three requirements, then send an e-mail to competitionsuk @ scee [dot] net with your full name and age in the message body. If you're extremely lucky, Sony will contact you with further deets. Oh, and in case you just want to pop by and take a peek, here's the address: VUE Cinema at 3 Cranbourn Street, Leicester Square, London. Be careful though, there will be Helghast patrolling the venue (we're not making that up, it's true!) Also, don't forget that this is what you'll be missing if you don't make it.

The cynic inside of me didn't want to believe the hype. How could I forget that the original Killzone on PS2 was backed by an overwhelming hype machine, powered by vocal drones declaring it a "Halo-killer?" When it was released in 2004, critics were impressed by the technical presentation but found very little substance in the gameplay. Four years later, with an early version of the single player game, I wondered if Killzone 2 would repeat history.Let me be as clear as I can. Killzone 2 is a fantastic game, easily deserving the hype its earned so far. Considering the expectations surrounding Killzone 2, that means quite a lot. From what I've played so far, Killzone 2 delivers on all fronts. The gameplay is incredibly visceral and nuanced; the graphics are unparalleled.Obviously, a lot must be said about the visuals in Killzone 2. The debut CG trailer was supposed to be representative of what the PS3 could possibly do. While perhaps not as flawless as the original trailer, Killzone 2 is without a doubt one of the most beautiful games ever created. The attention to detail is quite impeccable: textures are crisp; character models move with complex, lifelike animation. Gallery: Killzone 2

ADD sufferers who happen to be Killzone fans can rejoice! According to Seb Downie, the QA Manager at Guerrilla Games, Killzone 2 won't have any sort of install on the hard drive, even if you wanted to! "No install. Optional or otherwise." Good to hear -- at least it is one less thing the naysayers can complain about. Now we have a new dilemma: what to do with the extra ten minutes of your life? Play more Killzone 2, duh. [Via VG247]

Well, it looks like we won't be reading Killzone 2's manual. Posting on the official US PlayStation forums, Seb Downie, QA Manager for developer Guerrilla Games, confirmed that the PlayStation 3's highly anticipated first-person shooter will not delay the action by installing content to the hard drive first. Sez Seb: "No install. Optional or otherwise." Killzone 2, which is currently undergoing online beta testing, is due for release in February 2009.[Via Videogaming247]

The Killzone 2 public beta is drawing to an end this weekend. Guerrilla will use this final phase of testing to implement tweaks and features from feedback received during the beta test. For example, the Revive ability and Shotgun range will be changed before the game launches next year. There's still no word on when a Killzone 2 demo will be available. However, stay tuned as we'll have impressions of the full game in December.

Here's the official European box art for Killzone 2. Just because. Majed Athab - I was going to play Call of Duty: World at War this weekend, but I finished it yesterday. I also finally picked up Dead Space, which I'm hoping to finish. Then, if time permits me, there'll be some more Resistance 2 somewhere in there. Oh and the "packing game" because I'll be traveling on Monday. Jem Alexander - Mirror's Edge is ridiculously addictive, so no doubt I'll be continuing with that this weekend. After that? God knows. Still got a million games in their shrink wrap to play, but I'll probably keep playing Valkyria Chronicles and maybe some multiplayer Quantum of Solace. Alan Tsang - I may unwrap my copy of Resistance 2, maybe. But I'll definitely be playing more Dead Space and LittleBigPlanet. Andrew Yoon - Killzone 2. And not the beta. =D (Embargo ends December, folks. Can't talk about it until then!)

"Look into my eyes ... you will beta test Killzone 2 multiplayer," the above image seems to say. Actually, the text that accompanied it – and went out to lucky PlayStation Underground members – said basically that (without the "Look into my eyes" part).According to the email – which may be in your spam folder right now – beta testers will be able to play 'round the clock, in addition to participating in scheduled test sessions with production team members from Sony and Guerilla on hand to kill you in an online zone. So, check your email. There may just be a pair of glowing red eyes staring back at you ... or at least a good deal on pet medications.

It's time to play "check your email," kids! It looks like members of the PlayStation Underground have started to receive invitations to the Killzone 2 beta. With R2 now on store shelves, Sony's starting the hype machine for their next big FPS game, due in early 2009. It'll be interesting to see which game PS3 fans will align themselves with. Once again, take a look at your e-mail for an invite looking like this. Scour through your spam folder if you have to! [Thanks to everyone that sent this in!]

Resistance 2 is only weeks away ... Which is why the hype machine for Killzone 2 must gear up! This new trailer of the hotly anticipated PS3-exclusive FPS looks incredibly epic. The visuals look spectacular, thanks to a great art style that blends bleak grays with some surprising bursts of color. Are you ready to wage war against the Helghast? Good. You'll want to check out the trailer, after the cut. [Thanks, Bryan!]
