The UK will receive its umpteenth PS3 bundle with the release of Killzone 2. The package will cost £300 ($416) and be available ... actually, Europe still doesn't have a confirmed release date for the title. If this bundle were released in North America -- and that seems unlikely -- it would hit alongside the game on February 27. Hopefully, Sony Europe will see fit to announce a launch date sometime soon. Curious about Killzone 2? GameTrailers.com member GooseGoose has scanned a new issue of Maxim, the leading authority on video games. In it, the reviews crew reveals that the new 50 Cent game barely outdoes Killzone 2. Sony's upcoming FPS is "the hottest girl at the ball," but that can't compare to "a Wanksta-proof gem." Street Fighter IV also falters, lacking "old-school soul." Discuss. [Thanks, Mads K.!]

That's tomorrow, in case you're wondering. To make the event even more special the magazine will come in a "highly collectible" holographic wallet, complete with a Helghast trooper which changes color as it catches the light. • Killzone 2 demo Feb. 26 on PSN; Sony explains Feb. 2 pre-order-only release

Not pre-ordering Killzone 2? Curious as to when you'll be granted access to the demo on PSN? Short answer: Thursday, February 26th, a day before the game's official release, Sony has confirmed through MTV Multiplayer. Of course, those who pre-order the game -- exclusively through GameStop -- will be able to download and play the demo as early as February 2nd. As Multiplayer has posed, the practice of essentially selling a demo to those who have already committed to purchasing the game (only through a specific retailer) seems counterintuitive to the inherent purpose of a demo; namely, to convince the uncommitted to buy your game. "Offering a playable demo to motivate pre-orders speaks to our confidence in the appeal of a game such as Killzone 2," explained Sony's Scott Steinberg to Multiplayer. "We take this approach when we are convinced that the experience will cement a consumer's interest in purchasing. Retailers will then merchandise those demos within their stores and online to maximize their visibility." Next up: LocoRoco 2 -- demo it by pre-ordering the full game at a retailer near you. Don't want to bother pre-ordering Killzone 2 at GameStop? Still want the Killzone 2 demo? Well, you're going to have to wait until February 26, one day before the game officially hits store shelves.MTV Multiplayer asked SCEA why the early demo is restricted to those that are most interested in buying the game. Scott Steinberg offered a response: "Offering a playable demo to motivate preorders speaks to our confidence in the appeal of a game such as Killzone 2. We take this approach when we are convinced that the experience will cement a consumer's interest in purchasing."

  • Killzone 2 a 'masterpiece' without collector's edition

Guerrilla Games has singled down your February 27th choices to just two: to buy or not to buy. The Killzone 2 developer is prepping a single, standard edition of the game, confirms PlayStation Blog's Jeff Rubenstein. "There is no collector's edition slated for Killzone 2," writes Rubenstein. "Guerrilla Games has put all of their effort into creating this masterpiece of a game, so we didn't actively pursue a CE." Too bad, we were really hoping for another junior-sized helmet to replace the one that got stuck on kitty's head -- may he rest in peace ... Curious about Killzone 2? • Sad day for collectors: no limited edition Killzone 2 pack

Sorry collectors, it looks like Killzone 2 will not receive a special limited edition when it launches in America on February 27th. Just a bog-standard vanilla pack. Jeff Rubenstein confirms this in a comment on the Killzone 2 CES interview post; "There is no collector's edition slated for Killzone 2. Guerrilla Games has put all of their effort into creating this masterpiece of a game, so we didn't actively pursue a CE." A shame, really. The game would've lent itself well to a collector's edition. Maybe we'll see one for Killzone 3.

We would so go to the opera house more often if it was a giant LCD and a couple of kids playing first-person shooters ... in slow motion, with a dramatic opera lady singing off to the side -- and free popcorn. Alas, this is as close to a Killzone 2 opera as we're ever going to get (barring a double-secret Opera Mode), so sit back, crack your knuckles, and enjoy this world-class, pirouetting Helghast troop. Word on da street is that a Killzone 2 bundle is headed for Europe -- there's even a picture of the bundle to accompany the rumor. From the looks of it, the bundle will include an 80GB PS3, a single DualShock 3 controller and a copy of the PS3 exclusive first-person shooter. No release date was given, but we are assuming it will be around the same time as the release date for the game, February 25th.If this proves to be true, we think US gamers can officially be jealous of gamers on the Old Continent. Sony's a pretty big company. Shocker, right? They're busy putting out things like new digital cameras, wafer-thin displays, televisions that show realistic 3D images, and some new piece of tech that replaces your brain with a network of recycled Memory Sticks. Amazing.Still, with all that going on they do still manage to churn out games. Only a tiny part of their booth at CES was dedicated to gaming, but they managed to fit in Patapon 2, Killzone 2, Resistance: Retribution, Flower and an in-progress EyeToy game. Check them all out in the gallery below.%Gallery-41560%

Spoiler alert. These videos contain many things from Killzone 2, including story points and gameplay from the later parts of the game. Of course, these are totally awesome story points and gameplay, so if you don't mind the game losing a little mystery, you're in for a treat. Having said that, the first video is both spoiler-free and the best of the bunch. Entitled "Ballet of Death," it shows off the game's detailed and bloody death animations, put to a classical music soundtrack. Nice. Check out all the videos after the break.

  • Retailers say Killzone 2 hits UK on February 27th

Sometimes when Sony refuses to comment on something, there are others who will be happy to do so. In the case of release dates, retailers are the best people to turn to and, as Eurogamer have found out, tend to know when high profile games are likely to be released. Like Killzone 2 hitting the UK on February 27th, two days after certain other European territories. It's unconfirmed by SCEE, but these are the dates certain retailers have been "advised to expect" the launch. This falls in line with the American release date, which is also February 27th. A demo is also expected to hit sometime before the game launches.

Veronica does some globetrotting as she visits the developers from these games (situated in Amsterdam and Paris, respectively). There's also some info on FEAR 2 and a look at what Street Fighter fans do to each other behind closed doors. If you enjoyed your free Christmas episode last month you can pick up the latest episode on Thursday when it releases on the American PSN Store. It will cost you $2.99 for a single episode or $24.99 for an annual subscription (13 episodes). • Eurogamer: Europe may get pre-launch Killzone 2 demo

Eurogamer claims a source close to Sony has indicated that if the Killzone 2 demo clears QA, it'll "almost certainly" be released in Europe before the game storms store shelves. This information comes hot on the heels of Sony America's confirmation that a North American demo will not be available until after the game launches on February 27.Now, here's where wordplay makes the situation sticky. Killzone 2 doesn't currently have a clear release date in Europe. So, depending on when Europe actually gets an official date, the demo and game could very well be out in North America before Europe enters the zone of killing.

SCEA's deal with GameStop doesn't affect those living outside of the US. European gamers will be able to access a pre-release Killzone 2 demo on the PlayStation Store, no strings attached. SCEE didn't provide any specific dates, but told Videogamer.com that the demo will be released in a "normal manner."

Last week, GameStop revealed that gamers who pre-ordered Killzone 2 would get "exclusive" access to the game's demo. We contacted SCEA to see just how exclusive that deal is, and as it turns out, the answer is very. Our rep told us, "The demo will be available on the PSN after the game ships but only through GameStop until then." You heard the man, folks. If you're interested in checking out the game before its February 27 release and didn't get into the beta, it's gonna cost you one (1) Abraham Lincoln.

The only way you'll be able to play Killzone 2 before the game's release will be through GameStop's exclusive pre-order campaign. No other demo for Killzone 2 will be released before the game's street date. Those that don't want to pre-order from GameStop will have to wait until after the game's release, as we've discovered from SCEA. "The demo will be available on the PSN after the game ships but only through GameStop until then."Seems a bit strange to reward people already ready to purchase the game with a demo, while excluding those that are on the fence. Having played the game, we can confidentally say that playing even just one level of Killzone 2 will make you a convert.

  • Killzone 2 musical score is 90 minutes long, soundtrack album is a possibility

Joris de Man is the man behind the music of all the Killzone games, including the new one which hits PS3 next month. Music4Games caught up with de Man during the KZ2 score recordings at Abbey Road Studios back in November, and have gotten quite a few interesting tidbits out of him regarding the game's composition.Said de Man, "In total there is around 60 minutes of interactive in-game music (the music adapts its intensity to the gameplay), which was done with midi, and 28 minutes of orchestral music for the front-end and cutscenes, which is being recorded here at Abbey Road." All of that will be new music, but that doesn't mean some old tunes won't appear. Lovers of the original "Helghast Theme" from the first Killzone will be excited to know that it'll still be around in KZ2 but with "a new variation."Another part of the interview which tickled our interest is the possibility of a separate soundtrack album release. While gaming soundtrack albums are all too common in Japan, Western titles have yet to truly pick up on the trend -- GTA and its myriad of radio station compilations don't count. De Man said "it's something we're looking into with Sony Music."
