  • LG readying 60-inch wood-framed plasma display

If the glossy black, matte silver, or brushed aluminum looks are simply too played out for your next HDTV, LG is hoping to spruce up your options by offering up yet another forest-inspired offering. Details are admittedly scant on the forthcoming 60-inch 60PT1, but we do know that this beast of a PDP will rock a dark wooden frame that could hang in perfect harmony in your kid's pimped out treehouse. Additionally, it seems that LG will only be loosing 1,000 of these limited edition units worldwide, and that folks in Korea (well, not North Korea) will get first dibs when they finally appear. Of course, meticulously crafting such a beauty apparently takes time, as you won't be finding one of these for sale until "March at the earliest," but that should give you enough time to sell off a car or two in order to finance this presumably pricey luxury.[Via AkihabaraNews]

  • PQI's U510 flash card gets ritzy for Chinese New Year

Although PQI's not cramming 16GB onto this rendition of its U510 USB flash card, it is giving the device quite a fancy makeover for the Chinese New Year, as the Limited Fortune Pig Edition Card Drive (seriously) dons red and gold colors in preparation for the celebration. Moreover, the "hairline treated surface," along with the peony at the bottom right corner surrounded by fortune pigs, are reportedly meant to symbolize "prosperity, joy, happiness, sincerity," and all sorts of other good things to kick off the New Year. Interestingly, this isn't the first time a USB flash device has gotten ritzy for the forthcoming occasion, but considering that these aren't actually made of precious metals, we have a good feeling they'll be a bit more manageable on the wallet. Per usual, the cards come with a flat, retractable USB 2.0 cable, carrying bag, and personal file management software, and though we aren't sure just how much these nifty cards will run you, only 1,000 1GB flavors (pictured after the jump) are being produced while just 500 2GB units will see the light of day, so we'd suggest you place your dibs right about now if you're interested.[Via FarEastGizmos]

  • Motorola teams up with Ferrari for MotoRAZR MAXX V6

Although it's passing the checkered flag quite a few laps later than the McLaren-branded handsets we've seen of late, Ferrari has utilized that long-standing partnership with Motorola to kick out a flashy limited edition MotoRAZR MAXX, dubbed the V6 Ferrari. Although it's not like Ferrari to stop with just six cylinders, this handset sports a sleek, black finish, an unmistakable yellow Ferrari logo, two-megapixel camera, VGA webcam for video telephony, 50MB of internal memory, microSD expansion slot, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, USB 2.0 connectivity, and "OTA PC syncing" to boot. Additionally, you'll find HSDPA, EDGE, and GPRS options, and for that extra luxurious touch, you'll hear an F1 "roar" each time you switch the device on, images of the Ferrari F430 engine on the mini external display, and a Ferrari automobile on the internal display. So if you've been scouting the perfect mobile to accompany that newly-purchased piece of Italian engineering, you can snag the MotoRAZR MAXX V6 Ferrari in five undisclosed (but fairly easy to guess) continents starting tomorrow, and while the €490 ($633) pricetag might turn off the average joe, at least you get a swank red leather carrying case to keep this thing in tip-top shape. You have to be seriously freaking into Vista if you're even thinking about the Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Limited Numbered Signature Edition (seriously, we didn't even think Microsoft was capable of a title like that), but at least the price is on target for the upgrade ($259) and they claim it's signed by the man himself, Billy G. Something tells us it's just an embossed signature print or something along those lines, but either way it's down to you and 19,999 others prepared to get their fanboy on with the latest, greatest version of Windows.[Thanks, ZRX]

  • Vodafone launches trio of McLaren handsets from Sharp / Samsung

While we caught wind of Vodafone's plans to release a Mercedes McLaren-edition of Sharp's 770SH during our stint at CES, it seems that the carrier has now gone official with its plans, and tossed in two more special edition handsets for good measure. Partnering with the McLaren Formula 1 racing team, the duo has slapped that silver and red branding on the Sharp GX29 clamshell and the Samsung SGH-Z520M slider, and although we doubt the specs will change on any of these three mobiles, owners are sure to get a few glances from the updated aesthetics, and racing aficionados will appreciate the specialized Formula 1 news that will be delivered through Vodafone Live! throughout the season. Currently, details are scant with regard to pricing, specs, and availability, but we're sure it won't be too long before Vodafone offers its newfangled trio up to get a few motors running. • Samsung to release yellow Simpsons Movie phone

We've heard of releasing lappies and cameras based on major motion pictures, and we've certainly heard of getting films on your phone, but Samsung is partnering with 20th Century Fox to unveil a limited edition, yellow handset to commemorate The Simpsons Movie. Having potential to reach a cult-like status in the geek / cartoon kingdom, this still-mysterious phone doesn't yet have a fleshed-out spec list (nor a finalized design, apparently), but we do know that it'll be yellow in color, have a special Simpson's logo, and come "pre-loaded with exclusive The Simpsons Movie content." While we aren't expecting anything special out of the phone itself, we'll be interested to see the eBay value of these bananas come July of this year, and hopefully by then we'll know a good bit more about the minutiae. • Zune oddities (part II): Zune in orange, Zune Masters program, Zune with 80GB

    12.23.2006

We tend to think of something particularly academic when we hear the phrase "accepted into our masters' program," but apparently Microsoft is working the influencer angle again with the Zuners. 200 kids between the ages of 18-22 (but no older -- no one over 22 is cool, obviously) have been blessed with a bunch of Zune apparel (ten shirts, a hat, a messenger bag), some posters, obligations to hit the scene and attend (or suggest) hip Zuney events, and, of course, carry along their limited edition Zune. Speaking of limited edition Zunes, did you hear there are now orange Zunes are floating around retail? Apparently one went up on eBay starting at $750 -- no one bid though, what a shame and surprise. Guess that goes to show you that if you make too many limited edition products, people just stop caring. Danger, we're looking over your way. Oh, and finally, there's more Zune drive hackery going on, now boosting the 1.8-inch platter spinning monster up to 80GB without any case mods. Zune oddities, get 'em while they're, uh, weird. More pics after the break.Read - Orange Zune on eBay [Via Zune-Online]Read - Zune Masters program [Via Zunerama]Read - 80GB Zune

  • Zune oddnesses: Zune pretty in pink; Zune on a Mac

So as we understand it, apparently Microsoft secretly slipped 100 hot pink (or shall we say, magenta?) Zunes into the retail market for purchase, where only especially eagle-eyed buyers would notice what they were getting before taking it home and opening up their rather eye-catching player. (For lawsuit's sake, it's in the fine print on the bottom of the box.) Supposedly there's another 100 pink Zunes that were given out to the Zune team, but we doubt those will be up on eBay any time soon, as is at least one of the pinks. Kind of a bummer though for that dude. You get what you thought was going to be your white (or brown or black) Zune home just to find out you've got a limited edition -- great, except that of all the colors to surprise a user with, statistically speaking pink might be the worst selection.Oh yeah, and in other news somebody hacked XNJB -- the Mac app that makes use of select Windows-centric portable media devices -- to at least partially rock out Zune style (which so far as we know uses a variant of MTP, kind of like how it also appears to use a variant of PlaysForSure). Hot diggity, pink Zune on a Mac, can you get any more esoteric?Read - Pink Zune eBay auction [Via Zune Info]Read - Zune on a Mac [Thanks, Nate]

  • Pro-Idee kicks out pricey, portable go-cart funfest

We're down with fanciful portable gaming, and we're certainly crazy over limited edition toys from overseas, and Pro-Idee's suitcase-based go-cart track fits both bills quite nicely. Even if your work regulations won't allow you to toss a PSP or DS Lite in the otherwise pointless front shirt pocket, your boss will have no idea that the sleek, silver briefcase you're toting actually contains a two-player cart racing game, complete with a two-meter long track, stop watch, and a built-in battery pack for "five hours" of rubber-burning madness. Sure to make those long flights zip by, this jewel will be supposedly be limited to 60 units and will demand a whopping €598 ($766), which is probably a good bit less than you'd pay for an oh-so-coveted Playstation 3 right about now.[Via TRFJ]

  • Red Union Zune up for auction

    10.29.2006

Looks like there's a new -- albeit limited edition -- color Zune on the (auction) block: red. It comes by way of Union, one of the three La Brea Massive stores (including Undftd and Stussy -- not to be confused with the West Staines Massive) auctioning custom Zunes with "staff picked playlists," packed with Shure E5cs, JBL OnTour speakers, and a ZeroHalliburton 5-inch black aluminum attaché. Only two reds and six packages will be made available in total, so if you're feeling a little itchy to get all Bono up in this piece with your Microsoft player, hold out a while longer, something tells us more Zune shades are due eventually.[Via HypeBeast, thanks Eric]

  • T-Mobile's Sidekick 3 limited editions from LRG and Diane von Furstenberg

    by
    Paul Miller

    10.13.2006

Like we'd been hearing, T-Mobile is going all designer label on us with a couple of new Sidekick 3 looks. Last time, with the Sidekick II, they nabbed Juicy Couture and Mr. Cartoon to do the honors, and this time around we've got designs from Lifted Research Group (LRG), which is rocking a baby tree camo motif, and from Diane von Furstenburg which is sporting a "black is the new black" paintjob and some signature hot-pink number keys. Both phones also sport a bit of customized graphics for the phone interface itself, but otherwise the two limited edition Sidekicks remain largely unchanged. What we don't expect to remain unchanged is the price, but T-Mobile isn't saying exactly what yet -- we expect at least a $50 bump. Both phones should be available online and select retail stores on October 30th. Keep reading for the full-size pr0n.[Via Mobiledia]

With just over a month to go until launch, Atari has announced there will be a limited edition of Neverwinter Nights 2 available for $60. The extra coin grants you a bonus character feat, a fancy cloth map, a book of artwork, and two silver antique rings -- one lawful good, the other chaotic evil. Make sure you don't wear both at the same time, or you might feel ... conflicted.Fans may remember the eighty dollar collector's edition of the original game, which also featured an art book, in addition to a poster, mouse pad map, the game's soundtrack, and a NWN shirt. Did that shirt actually fit anyone?

We've managed to get our hands on some live shots of a prototype Black Diamond smartphone, a handset that's gained publicity not because of its feature set (WM5, 400MHz CPU, WiFi, quad-band GSM) or its design, but thanks to a $300,000 bank-busting pricetag and an exclusive five unit manufacturing run. Subtlety and style seems to be the main theme here, with the designers avoiding the obvious temptation to stick thousands of diamonds on the case. Click on for comparison shots with AXIA's EMXI 700, and for pictures of our lucky insider cradling the most expensive hunk of plastic he'll ever hold.

  • Get ready girls: Pink PSP!

    by
    Andrew Yoon

    08.21.2006

Maybe all this talk about a PSP redesign is from all these new colors of the PSP that are being revealed at once. You may remember Sony's insanely expensive Signature PSPs. Well, add another new "limited edition" color to the mix: pink. Or, should I say p!nk, because it's designed "in collaboration" with the somewhat popular pop star. It'll come in a Value Pack only and cost €229, or £169. And yes, like many cool things Sony-related, this is solely Europe-only. You'll also pick up some exclusive downloads from YourPSP.com when you purchase the pink system. From the press release: "PSP is not exclusively for men, there is a PSP for everyone, and whoever you are, PSP can fit into your life."I'm somehow doubting the limited edition nature of this package. You may remember that all hell broke loose once the pink DS Lite came out. Who wouldn't want to capitalize on the rabid girl market? Of course, Sony's done stranger things before... like refuse to bring the white PSP to the US.[Via IGN]

  • Japan gets limited edition World Cup 360

If Xbox 360s continue to collect dust in Japan, it won't be because of a lack of outreach to the country's soccer fans. Microsoft will offer 10,000  2006 FIFA World Cup limited edition Xbox 360 packages including  the struggling Japanese version of the console, a copy of  2006 FIFA World Cup by EA and an Adidas faceplate in the national squad's team colors. Play-Asia.com has it available April 27 for US $429.90. A nice score for disinterested Japanese gamers and those desperate to play NTSC/J games. Now how about a limited edition for the markets that actually appreciate the 360?
