Samsung may have already announced a smartwatch that can make phone calls (and also one covered in Swarovski crystals), but that doesn't mean it's showing up to IFA empty-handed. The company is holding its annual "Unpacked" press event today, where it'll almost certainly unveil a new Galaxy Note phone, like it has every year since 2011. Who knows? We may also see that forthcoming virtual reality headset we've been reading so much about. Something tells us, though, that you won't be seeing another Samsung smartwatch so soon. We don't think so, anyway.

In about an hour and a half, Sony representatives will be taking the stage at IFA 2014 to introduce a whole bunch of products that have more or less been leaked or rumored in some way. We still don't know all of the details, and Sony's known to toss out a few surprises at its press conferences. That said, we're fairly confident that we'll get officially introduced to the Xperia Z3, the miniature Compact and the Tablet Compact, as well as a couple wearables. It should be fun regardless, so join us at our liveblog here as we report on everything Sony! [Image Credit: Ausdroid]

At the game industry's annual United States trade show, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, the big three console makers battle it out for your attention. At Gamescom -- the world's largest gaming trade show which draws around 350K people -- it's kind of Sony's show. Sure, Microsoft has an event. And hey, this year there were some pretty big announcements at Microsoft's event. But Europe is Sony territory, and this is the show where PlayStation is wont to make some big waves. Join us right here at 1PM ET for the whole event as it unfolds, live from Cologne, Germany.

  • TUAW liveblog of Apple Q3 2014 earnings call at 5 PM ET

Just a reminder to TUAW readers that today at 5 PM ET, we will be liveblogging the Apple Q3 2014 earnings call. Come back a little bit before 5 PM ET to settle into the liveblog, and you can listen to the call on Apple's live stream of the event. Note that our liveblog tool auto-updates, there's no need to refresh the page at all. The festivities usually start around 4:30 PM ET when Apple publishes the quarterly figures, so expect to see some information here on TUAW outlining the results. At 5 PM, the call starts, usually with Apple CEO Tim Cook and CFO Luca Maestri at the helm. This is Maestri's first solo flight as the new CFO, but he was on last quarter's call to provide background and answers. The usual cast of characters from Wall Street will be playing "stump the executives" with their regular round of questions both insightful and inane. It's always entertaining as they try to pry future product plans out of Cook, Maestri and any other execs on hand for the call.

The upcoming expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic has the potential to completely change player perception of the game. Galactic Strongholds gives players the ability to own and decorate a home on four different planets: Nar Shaddaa, Tatooine, Coruscant, and Dromund Kaas. Last week, the developers showed off the Nar Shaddaa Sky Palace; today, we see the Coruscant Skyrise Apartment. Over the next couple of weeks, developers have promised to answer questions, including, "Who can visit your stronghold when you're not looking?" and "How many people can visit before your skyrise topples to level 1313?" They also said that they will give an in-depth tour of the prestige system and the legacy bank. We are liveblogging right now in the comments as the developers are speaking, so join us!

Get ready for two crazy hours of Google awesomeness: I/O's opening keynote is about to begin. This is typically the time for the company to unveil some of its biggest projects and set the tone for the following year. Just two years ago, for instance, co-founder Sergey Brin skydived onto the roof of the venue and biked into the keynote while wearing Google Glass. Whether we'll see anything as adventurous this year remains to be seen, but that's why we liveblog these things -- so you, dear reader, can experience every second of the madness right along with us. So join us right back here at noon (EDT), okay? June 25, 2014 12:00:00 PM EDT

Don't let its DevCon facade fool you: Google I/O has plenty of interesting stuff for everyone. Most of the company's big announcements come during the day one keynote, which we'll be liveblogging tomorrow morning. This year's theme is "Design, Develop, Distribute," a slogan that doesn't reveal any major clues about what we can expect (aside from the fact that Google is focused on new design, which we'll cover in more detail later). But that's what we're here for -- to figure it out! We've compiled a handy guide that discusses what to expect -- and not expect -- to see at San Francisco's Moscone Center this week. Your first order of business should be to bookmark this link and join us on Wednesday at 12PM ET as we liveblog I/O's opening keynote.

Look, Amazon didn't exactly hide the fact that today's mystery product announcement would be its long-rumored 3D phone. But with the exception of the occasional picture, the company did a decent job of keeping its new handheld device out of the public eye. Now Amazon's ready to show off the new Kindle Fire phone (or whatever it ends up being called), and we're here to bring you the news as it happens. Enjoy!

With the Xbox One taking center stage this morning at Microsoft's press conference, Sony's trying to own the evening with its own PlayStation-focused event tonight. What's in store from the folks behind the PlayStation 4? We'll find out soon enough, but allow us to venture some educated guesses: a new God of War? Perhaps an update on the long-in-development The Last Guardian? A PlayStation Vita/PlayStation 4 bundle? We'll find out starting at 9PM ET!

Microsoft's annual E3 press briefing on its Xbox business is, if nothing else, never a dull affair. Heck, last year, a car rose out of the stage! And one year, some of The Beatles showed up. What's gonna happen today? That's the question! We get the feeling that our friend the Master Chief will make an appearance in at least one Halo game announcement, the couch-sized men of the Gears of War universe are likely to show up, and we've got our fingers crossed for a hovercraft or some madness rising out of the stage this morning. We'll get started shortly after 9AM PT/12PM ET.

Time flies when you're having fun. It seems like it was only yesterday that we were sitting down to report Apple's first quarter results for the 2014 fiscal year. Today at 5 PM ET, TUAW TV Live will be pre-empted for the second quarter earnings call, and we'll be here to report the news for you as it comes in. The festivities usually start around 4:30 PM ET when Apple publishes the quarterly figures. At 5 PM, the call starts, usually with Apple CEO Tim Cook and CFO Peter Oppenheimer at the helm. I would expect to hear Apple corporate controller Luca Maestri on the call as well; Maestri will be stepping in to replace the retiring Oppenheimer this fall. To view the liveblog, point your browser to this page -- and that's all you need to do. There's no need to refresh your browser, as the liveblog will automatically update with images and commentary. Just sit back with your favorite beverage as the reports of iPhone, iPad and Mac sales figures roll in, and we listen to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster once again try (unsuccessfully) to get the Apple executives to spill the beans about the mythical iTV. You can listen in on the call livestream here. Note that the livestream is usually delayed slightly, so you may see us writing about something prior to hearing it on the call. TUAW TV Live will be back on the air next week at its usual time.

It's technically called "Build Windows." But this year, the biggest news coming out of Microsoft's annual developer conference might not have much to do with Windows at all. Sure, we're expecting a software update, for which we've already seen copious leaks. But what about Windows Phone? Is version 8.1 on the way? Maybe we'll even hear about Cortana, Microsoft's answer to Siri. And hey, what of Nokia? Is this acquisition gonna ever close or what? Lastly, can we see some new hardware? Might we catch a glimpse of some new phones ahead of tonight's Nokia shindig? Your guess is as good as ours, which means you'll want to follow our liveblog as we give you the blow-by-blow. Today's the day when Amazon unveils...something to do with video (or so we're told). Let's not beat around the bush here: this is almost certainly Amazon's long-rumored video streaming device, and may very well also be the game streaming device we've been hearing about (we're guessing it's one device that does both). Oh, and probably that Bluetooth game controller too, right? There's gotta be some reason Amazon bought the studio that made the new Killer Instinct! Regardless, the particulars are missing. What kind of streaming options will there be? How about onboard processing? A set-top box or a dongle (a la Chromecast)? How does this incorporate the coming army of Jeff Bezos-controlled domestic drones? Should we bring our bugout bags to the event? April 2, 2014 11:00:00 AM EDT

All the signs are pointing to an Office for iPad announcement coming tomorrow from Microsoft's new CEO Satya Nadella. While the software giant's product teams were long suspected of having a finished iPad version of the PC and Mac productivity suite ready to ship, the priority for Microsoft was to get a touch-enabled revamp of the PC version (codenamed "Gemini") to market first. That's no longer the plan, according to ZDnet's Microsoft beat lead Mary Jo Foley. Along with many other MS mavens, Foley believes that Office for iPad -- which would presumably be tied to an Office 365 subscription -- will be announced tomorrow, with the Gemini version of touch-Office coming later on. The announcement may also touch on MS's management options for mixed-platform networks, covering a new MEMS product (Microsoft Enterprise Mobility Suite) that would provide tools for network administrators and IT leads to handle their increasingly diverse, BYOD-enabled environments. If the thought of a Microsoft announcement in San Francisco on the first day of Macworld/iWorld suggests pretty clearly to you that MS wants to get the attention of Apple aficionados, you're not alone. That's why we'll be attending and liveblogging the announcement tomorrow, providing commentary and reactions during the event and afterward. Microsoft will also be webcasting the event. Will March 27, 2014 be the day that future tech pundits point to as the transition from the PC to the post-PC era? Tune in to find out. Yes, the photo is of ancient MS-DOS boxes; as it happens, Microsoft released the source code for early versions of DOS this week.
