IGN has the scoop on a few things that makes Lost Planet: Colonies' single player different from its predecessor and no friends, it isn't new levels or a beefier story. Instead, Colonies will add four new player modes to the Lost Planet experience including a Halo 3'esque Score Attack mode, a Trial Battle mode, a First-Person mode and a not-unlocked-from-the-get-go Off-Limit mode. And out of all four, we don't know what to think about the First-Person mode. Playing Lost Planet as a FPS just sounds weird. Doesn't it? Make the hop over to IGN to get your Colonies single player mode information fix and be sure to watch the weirdness that is Lost Planet FPS in the video above. Weird ...

When we discovered that the long-rumored Lost Planet: Colonies would be an expansion-of-sorts to the first game, we weren't exactly thrilled, and exclaimed that it better hit at the right price. Well, we had nothing to worry about, as 1up is reporting that when the game hits in the US it'll be at the price point of $29.99. For the thirty dollars, you'll get even more than we had originally listed, and the scope of the content goes far beyond that of a game such as Ninja Gaiden Black. The new character models include two new females, two new robots, and five other characters. The new infantry guns are Hand Gun, a Revolver, a Flame Launcher, and Hand Cannon, with the new Mech weapons being the Pile Bunker, a VS Rifle, a Rocket Pod and a Laser Lance. There are four new maps are Crossfire City, Area 921, Lost Arena, and a zero-gravity map, Assault Space. As well as all that, there are a half dozen new multiplayer modes includeing Akrid Hunter, VS Annihalator, CounterGrab, Point Snatcher, Akrid Egg Battle, and Egg Bandit. That's a lot. Plus, there's more that we didn't get to. With all this new content and an even lower price point than we suggested, you can be certain we'll be picking this one up.

  • Sorry, but Lost Planet: Colonies is Lost Planet redux [Updated]

We and our dear friends the internet have been doing a fair amount of speculation about what the recently-rated Lost Planet: Colonies could be. The most popular theory? A sequel to Capcom's third person action hit. The least popular? Ritchie's theory that it's an action game featuring Julianna Margulies as a by-the-book cop and Queen Latifah as her sassy sidekick. Now, the real word has come from Capcom via Famitsu and Ritchie got it wrong ... but so did the rest of us. Lost Planet: Colonies is a spruced up version of Lost Planet. Lost Planet 1.5, if you will. The revamp will have a new female playable character, a new online mode that pits bugs versus humans and includes Xbox 360 and PC cross-platform play. (We don't know what that means for the PS3. Seems there won't be a PS3 version.) That info, it should be noted, checks out for the Japanese version, but we don't yet know the specifics of the North American version. We're assuming it won't be too far off though. So, what do you think, are you ready to buy Lost Planet again?UPDATE: Xbox 360 Fanboy has more features from LP:C including: 4 New maps, 2 of which are possibly a city and a desert New Female Playable Character Ten New weapons New Monsters Trial Battle and Score Attack modes for the campaign bosses

Remember when we said that soon we'd have more information on Lost Planet: Colonies? Well we weren't lying, as this week's Famitsu confirmed a ton of information about the game. First and foremost, this is not an entirely new game, this is a remake of the original with more assets and expanded multiplayer. Think of it as similar to Ninja Gaiden Sigma, only for the same console. Hmmm, so that explains why the ESRB was able to rate it so early ... Anyway here's some of the things listed in the article as new: New Multiplayer modes, including Humans VS Akrid 4 New maps, 2 of which are possibly a city and a desert New Female Playable Character Ten New weapons New Monsters Trial Battle and Score Attack modes for the campaign bosses 360/PC Cross-platform play Now while this all sounds great, we still have a few questions. First, price, this can't possibly be a full-retail title can it? There's new content, but unless there's still some secrets held back there's not much more than the original had. But if this hits at the right price ($40 or so) it could see a resurgence in the online Lost Planet community. That leads us right to our second question though, with this seeing release on PC and 360, why not simply make it available as DLC? Perhaps it's because so few in Japan actually have a 360 to download to, and this is seeing release there first on May 29th. No word on release dates for other territories just yet.[Via NeoGAF]

  • Lost Planet: Colonies Achievements, more info soon

Having been kept a pretty bad secret, it's a bit of a surprise to discover that there isn't really much at all known about the next entry in (what could be) the Lost Planet series. Having been revealed by the ESRB without anyone knowing anything at all about it is strange enough (is it an expansion? an arcade game? whats the deal?). But now it seems that the full achievement list has been made public somehow. The guys over at 360sync.com had the list, but were asked to take it down by a Capcom rep who also said that "Information on Capcom's new Lost Planet title will be coming next week." Now, while 360sync was asked to take the list down, we had the chance to grab it and it does answer some questions, though it of course it raises many as well .... Suffice to say that from this side of things the game is shaping up nicely compared to the achievements from the first game, with better spread and a higher emphasis on multiplayer. Not only that, but the achievements hint at several new game modes/features. Mentioned are things like Coins, Medals, Titles, over 20 Online Maps, and Score Attack Mode. Whatever little we know about Lost Planet: Colonies, it looks to be on the right track. Hit the break for the full achievement list.[Thanks, Gabriel Gray]

Not a bad release list for February. PS3 owners the world over finally get to see what all the fuss is about with Capcom's Lost Planet (spoiler: not a lot) and the Lost game also hits shelves. Having seen very little of the title, we're intrigued to see what it's like. Cautiously intrigued, but intrigued nonetheless. Here's the full release list:US Games Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Lost: Via Domus Turning Point: Fall of Liberty EU Games Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Lost: Via Domus Blacksite: Area 51 Asian Games Lost: Via Domus Europe keeps attempting to play catch-up this week with Blacksite: Area 51, another UE3 game that America received during the gameflood of last year. Release dates are constantly subject to change, so be sure to confirm them before making any rash decisions. Like stepping out the front door. Your PS3 is region free, don't forget, so don't be afraid to import any of the above titles. Though if we spot you importing Lost from any other country then we'll be forced to give you a clip around the ear for being so stupid. You have been warned.

Rut roh. Don't look now, but today's update is really rather bad. It's been a while since we've come out and said that a PSN update has been dire, because the quality has improved drastically over the last six months. Still, unless you're a fan of developer diaries, or demos that have been on the US Store for two weeks, then there's not a lot here for you. Here's the full release list: Lost Planet online demo (free) Conflict: Denied Ops launch trailer (free) Conflict: Denied Ops Dev Diary 3 video (free) Assassin's Creed Dev Diary trailer: Altair (free) 7 Devil May Cry 4 wallpapers (free) Sports theme (free) It seems that SCEE have put Snakeball back on the front page, even though it came out in December. Our guess is it's their attempt to pad out today's update, but it hasn't really worked. Oh well, the long wait until next Thursday starts now.

We have received word that the multiplayer demo of Lost Planet will finally be making its ways to the European PSN Store this Thursday. Hopefully it won't suffer from the same issues that the American demo did when it was released two weeks ago. We're fairly certain most people would have downloaded the demo from the US Store, but for those of you who to prefer to stick with a single, European, PSN account - this is good news. Unless, of course, the game doesn't interest you at all. In which case you can ignore this post and ponder on what other goods we might be seeing hit the Store this Thursday.

  • Lost Planet to include 5GB installation

    by

    02.18.2008

Another imminent Capcom game, Lost Planet, looks set to include a necessary 5GB install before the game can begin. dBTechno is reporting that this takes about 15 minutes for Lost Planet and makes loading times "lightning fast". We refer you to our previous post on Devil May Cry 4's 20 minute install where we ask "who cares?", as the point still stands. A fifteen minute install is not worth getting wound up over, in the grand scheme of things. It seems the required installation is going to become a recurring "feature" with regards to Capcom games. This could prove difficult for people with 20GB or 40GB PS3s, as 5GB is a fair chunk of their valuable HDD space. There are, however, plenty of ways to work around this what with upgradable internal HDDs and external memory. Problem solved.[Thanks Clayton]

Kaboom. That was the sound the servers at Capcom made when Lost Planet went live on the PLAYSTATION Network. Perhaps they didn't expect the demo to be as popular as it was? Well, after taking the demo down, it's back on the Store for download. In fact, many of you have e-mailed us saying it works fine now.We enjoyed our time with the demo before the demo issues became burdensome. Jump online, don a mech, and see you online.

If you've downloaded the recent Lost Planet: Extreme Condition demo you might have had trouble getting connected to the game's online servers. It's not completely clear what the problem is, but according to the PlayStation.Blog the issues are being dealt with. The demo has been temporarily taken down from the PlayStation Network and an updated version with an actual working multiplayer mode should be coming soon. For those of you who've downloaded the demo and have got it to work, you'll now find that the servers have also been shut down in preparation for the new demo. Isn't this all really annoying? Sure. But at least it's getting a fix. Capcom assures that it will be "working overtime to correct the issues." Let's hope we get our demo back up by the end of the weekend, otherwise we'll just have to continue playing Devil May Cry 4 instead.

In keeping with two weeks ago, Capcom will be placing a multiplayer demo for the upcoming Xbox 360 port Lost Planet on the US PSN Store the same day it arrived in Japan. As with the DMC4 demo two weeks ago, Europe has missed out on the demo and so will probably get it next week - though no doubt most of you will be picking it up from the US Store today anyway. The US Store update isn't up yet, but we'll let you know what's available as soon as we find out. If you don't want to wait until then, you can go ahead and grab it from the Japanese Store. It looks like the servers are worldwide, meaning the version you have won't restrict who you play against. Read our complete impressions here.

For some reason, Lost Planet had a thriving online community when it launched on Xbox 360. Capcom is looking to recreate that success for the PS3. The Japanese PS Store has been updated with a brand new online-enabled demo of the game. Of course, you'll need a Japanese PSN account to access it, but we're certain that Capcom USA will release a similar demo in the future.Update: Impressions, after the cut. A while back, we spotted a game by the name of Lost Planet Colonies over on the infamous USK German ratings board website, which got Lost Planet fanboys worked up into a full fledged excitement tizzy. And now we're proud to say that the Colonies excitement is getting kicked up a notch.Recently, the ESRB ratings board website reviewed and listed none other than our friend Lost Planet Colonies and even more tizzy inducing is the fact that it the ESRB lists it as a PC and Xbox 360 title. W00t to that! Seeing that there is no hiding from the fact that Lost Planet Colonies is real, IGN pressed Capcom about the ESRB listing and asked what is headed down the Lost Planet development pipeline. Their response, "stay tuned". And stay tuned we will.

Capcom's love-it-or-hate-it action adventure, Lost Planet, hits the PS3 in February. The game earned a bit of infamy due to its over-blown promise of satiating PS3 fans' "feelings of betrayal." Although the PS3 version includes an additional playable character, launches at a budget price, and includes free online multiplayer, it seems as though nothing will soothe the bitter, broken hearts of the Capcom spiteful. Except for Bionic Commando Rearmed, right?[Via Joystiq]

Capcom is throwing PS3 owners a bone with their upcoming port of the former Xbox 360 exclusive, Lost Planet. Luka, the female character pictured above, will also be playable in the upcoming game. The additional characters from the PC adventure (Frank West, Joe and Mega Man) will also be available. While this addition isn't likely to take people off the Capcom haterade, it should come as a reassuring sign of things to come. This isn't the first time high profile Xbox 360 exclusives have moved to the PS3 with additional content. For example, the upcoming RPG, Eternal Sonata from Namco Bandai, will feature significant new content when it arrives on PS3.[Via Siliconera]

Capcom's big PS3 surprise was a port of the former Xbox 360 exclusive, Lost Planet. Disappointed PS3 fans expecting more were dismayed by the idea of yet another port, and threw a collective tantrum on the internet. Well, at least Capcom's making a smart move by pricing next year's port at a discount price. If Capcom's official store is to be believed, the game will launch for only $40 -- that's $20 less than the standard retail price for games.Capcom's booth at New York Anime Fest (which includes a playable PS3 demo of Devil May Cry 4) has also been distributing coupons for their official store. Use code NYANIMEFEST to get 15% off your purchase, which includes pre-orders for Lost Planet.[Thanks, Kspraydad!]
