Like spending money? We hope so, because there's plenty of opportunity to do so today. Whether you're finally picking up flOw or Warhawk at their new, lower, prices or if you're grabbing some Rock Band and Karaoke Revolution downloadable content, you're spoilt for choice. Here's the full release list: flOw bundle ($8.99) Warhawk temporary price cut until April 15th ($29.99) Turok multiplayer map-pack ($4.99) High Stakes: Poker camera add-on (free) Unreal Tournament 3 map pack (free) Rock Band "Boston" song pack ($9.99) "Hitch A Ride" ($1.99) "More Than A Feeling" ($1.99) "Peace of Mind" ($1.99) "Rock & Roll Band" ($1.99) "Smokin'" ($1.99) "Something About You" ($1.99) Karaoke Revolution presents: American Idol Encore downloadable tracks ($1.50 each, listed after the jump) Gran Turismo 5 Prologue "Mars Volta" video (free) Gran Turismo 5 Prologue "Thin Lizzy" video (free) Gran Turismo 5 Prologue "Weezer" video (free) Grand Theft Auto IV trailer (free) Warhawk update 1.3 trailer (free) Winter X Games 08 "Play the Pros" video (free) God of War: Chains of Olympus TV spot (free) Wyclef's Fast Car music video (free) PURE gameplay trailer (free) PURE CG trailer (free) Eye of Judgment theme (free) Metal Gear Solid 4 wallpaper (free) Walk Hard the Dewey Cox Story movie trailer (free) Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Fall 2007 TV spot (free) Anyone who doesn't have Warhawk yet should definitely take advantage of this awesome $10 price cut. Especially with a new patch and expansion coming in April. We're surprised at the amount of downloadable Karaoke Revolution tracks. It's a shame we don't have the game, because there are a few we'd certainly love to grab. Hopefully they'll be coming to Singstar one day. There's too much content to talk about in this short post, so let's take it into the comments - what do you think of today's update?

Get rid of a long list of nothing. We can't complain about a lack of content this week -- just a lack of interesting stuff. The most exciting things are the MotorStorm 2 and Eye of Judgment Set 2 trailers. The Condemned 2 demo will be handy for those of you still on the fence about getting the game. Here's the full release list: Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08 "Maxed out player" add-on ($2.49) Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08 "Turnberry Golf Resort" add-on (free) Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08 "Doral Golf Resort, Blue Monster Course" add-on ($4.99) Rock Band DLC At The Gates' "Blinded By Fear" ($1.99) Evile's "Thrasher" ($1.99) The Haunted's "D.O.A" ($1.99) Condemned 2: Bloodshot demo (free) SEGA Superstars Tennis demo (free) MotorStorm 2 Teaser Trailer (free) Eye of Judgment "Set 2" Trailer (free) Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Japan Intro Movie (free) Ape Quest PS3 Spec Trailer (free) Turning Point Trailer (free) Soul Calibur Character Reveal Trailer (free) Condemned 2: Bloodshot Launch Trailer (free) Gattaca movie trailer (free) Sleuth movie trailer (free) We're starting to get really disheartened with the Rock Band DLC. The last decent update was the Oasis song pack and, since then, we've seen SingStar overtake Rock Band for the "Best Rhythm Game Downloadable Content" award. If such a thing existed. Honestly, though. Harmonix could do with looking at how Sony appeals to multiple audiences with lots of different song genres. Also -- where are these full album downloads!

  • Blood Omen and Pandemonium rated by ESRB

The ESRB strikes again and we learn of another couple of PS1 games the should be heading to the PSN. When? Who knows. Could be tomorrow, could be never -- (hint: It's not tomorrow). As for the games themselves, we're totally stoked. Pandemonium! was an awesome game in its day, but Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain was even better. We at PS3 Fanboy are huge fans of the Legacy of Kain series and have very fond memories of Blood Omen. Hopefully these games will grace the PSN Store soon, because America needs some more decent PS1 titles. People who missed out on Blood Omen should be required to download it. While it may not be the greatest entry of the Kain series (it came before Amy Hennig, of Uncharted fame, came on board and crafted the wonderful Soul Reaver storyline) it's still a narrative masterwork. We're looking forward to restoring the Pillars of Nosgoth to their former glory again sometime in, hopefully, the near future. Vae Victis![Via Kotaku]

  • Next European PSN update to be the most PAINful yet

    03.16.2008

It has been confirmed to us that the wait is finally over. Europeans can get their hands on PAIN, as well as a few add on packs (probably the character packs already released in the US) this coming Thursday. With last week being described as "the last bad update for a while", things should pick up from now on. Yeah. How many times have we heard that one?The localisation issues that cause these ridiculous delays (it's been four months since PAIN was released in America) are due to be addressed at some point in the near future. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, something needs to be done, so we'll look forward to these discussions with cautious anticipation.

  • 'Leaked' image shows PSN store redesign - or not

    03.11.2008

Upon receipt of the above image we at PS3 Fanboy went through several psychological stages. First, we were excited about the "leaked PlayStation Store image" which was allegedly sent to our tipster by Sony itself. Then our journalistic cynicism kicked in and we noticed a few things which seemed out of place. Not least of which was the title: "Playstation Store." Knowing Sony intimately, we're familiar with their weird spelling foibles and we know they'd never let themselves get away with the lack of capitalization of "PLAYSTATION" (or at the very least "PlayStation"). Not on an official screenshot at least. There are various other little niggles which have us scratching our collective chin, too. This is probably a mock up. A very good mock up, by all accounts, but a mock up nonetheless. Don't be disheartened, though. We're certain Sony will come up with something that will look and function beautifully. Just a month to go before we see it for real.

  • American PSN updates for March 6th

Music lovers, this is a good week for you. Three new songs for Guitar Hero 3 (overpriced, as usual) and six for Rock Band account for the majority of this week's update. Also, there's a new game available - Rocketmen, courtesy of Capcom. An arcade shooter featuring online co-op and RPG elements. Might be worth a look. Here's the full release list: Rocketmen full game ($9.99) Rocketmen demo (free) Guitar Hero III "Modern Metal" track pack ($6.25) Avenged Sevenfold's "Almost Easy" Thrice's "The Arsonist" Deftones' "Hole in the Earth" Rock Band "Grateful Dead" pack ($9.99) "Casey Jones" ($1.99) "Sugar Magnolia" ($1.99) "Truckin'" ($1.99) "Franklin's Tower" ($1.99) "I Need A Miracle" ($1.99) "China Cat Sunflower" ($1.99) NBA Ballers: Chosen One trailer (free) Lost Planet theme (free) 3 Condemned 2 wallpapers (free) Hancock movie trailer (free) 21 movie trailer (free) All in all, not too bad - but only because of Activision, Harmonix and Capcom. Sony itself has given us very little (if any) of this week's content. Hopefully we'll see some more content of various types (more PS1 games please!) in the future. Perhaps after April's upcoming store redesign.%Gallery-17253%

    03.06.2008

After last week's awful PSN update we were really hoping Sony would deliver us some decent content this time around. Have they? That's up to you to decide. Between the long-awaited release of the flOw expansion pack, a new set of Guitar Hero III tracks and the gorgeous WipEout HD trailer, there's some not bad stuff to choose from. Here's the full release list: flOw expansion pack (£1.99/€2.99) Guitar Hero III "No Doubt" track pack (£3.99/€5.99) Oblivion: Shivering Isles trailer (free) WipEout HD trailer (free) Uncharted "DJ Shadow" trailer (free) Graffiti theme (free) The Pursuit of Happyness Blu-Ray trailer (free) Reign Over Me Blu-Ray trailer (free) Perfect Stranger Blu-Ray trailer (free) With the promise of PAIN being released this month and a PSN Store redesign coming in early April, we're hoping to see things looking up for the European PSN Store soon. This is a great improvement over last week, it has to be said - even if the Guitar Hero 3 content is a bit overpriced.[Thanks Simon]

  • Rumored PSN Store redesign to include video downloads?

    by

    03.04.2008

Always ready to throw the latest rumor onto the internet, Kotaku has more "details" on that rumored PSN Store redesign that we would so much love to see. They even have a mock-up of the store (as seen above) according what their source saw at the Destination PlayStation retailer even last week. If true, the PSN Store will follow the aesthetic of the SingStar SingStore even closer than we imagined - fine by us! We love the SingStore. It's very easy to navigate and it looks a darn site better than the PSN Store does right now.According to Kotaku, the redesigned Store will be accompanied by Sony's long-awaited video download service. Naturally, this will be for America only to begin with. Of course, nothing is confirmed and no real details (such as price, or a release date) are available and Sony is, as always, staying very tight lipped. We'll let you know if anything develops, as usual.

  • Pain due out in Europe this month; Elefunk in April; Echochrome follows in May

    03.04.2008

Geekpulp, a New Zealand based site, has received a list of upcoming first-party downloads that will be up on the PlayStation Store within the next few months. These are PAL releases, so it's easy to assume that the same content will be reaching Europeans around the same time. With only three items on the list, however, we're hoping this isn't exhaustive. There will obviously be third party stuff coming too, but with Sony holding games like High Velocity Bowling and Dark Mist hostage, we were hoping to see them at some point soon. The press release says that Pain will be out at some point this month, along with a few extra buyable characters on day one. With ten extra characters finished and ready to go, both Europe (that seems to include all PAL territories) and America should be seeing more characters becoming available regularly. That's all very well and good, but where are the new levels? One really isn't enough, no matter how many characters you can toss around in it.Elefunk (a game we sadly haven't heard about in quite a while) will be available in April and the PS3 release of Echochrome will come in May. So, now you know how the next few months according to Sony and its first-party titles, what do you think?[Via N4G]

    02.28.2008

The PAIN content continues this week with another new character to lob around your virtual city. Unfortunately, there's no sign of any new levels for the game so chances are this new character won't add too much new gameplay for you for the time being. Still, for less than a dollar it's worth a punt. Here's the full release list: PAIN Skurv Dogg Character ($0.99) Rock Band "Nine Inch Nails" pack ($5.49) March of the Pigs ($1.99) The Collector ($1.99) The Perfect Drug ($1.99) Guitar Hero III -- No Doubt Track Pack ($6.25): Featuring Don't Speak, Excuse Me Mr. and Sunday Morning MLB 08 The Show Music Video (free) MLB 08 The Show Blog Video (free) NBA 08 Amare Stoudmire Bio (free) Condemned 2: Bloodshot Trailer 1 (free) Lost Planet Trailer (free) Star Trek Teaser Trailer (free) PAIN: Skurv Dogg Theme (free) Rocketman: Axis of Evil wallpaper (free) This is a good day for fans of rhythm games. Both Rock Band and Guitar Hero III have a worthwhile download pack going for them. The Guitar Hero pack is almost a dollar more expensive, but we'll forgive them that this week simply because we quite like "Don't Speak" by No Doubt. Sports fans have a few interesting videos to grab and trekkies can get their hands on a HD version of the Star Trek movie teaser trailer. Not a bad haul, overall.

  • American PSN updates for February 21st

    02.21.2008

The update isn't available on the PSN store yet, but should be soon. When it is we will update with anything that's missing and with price info. Here's the full release list: PixelJunk Monsters demo (free) Jet Moto 3 PS1 game ($5.99 ) Rock Band DLC Garbage's "Why do you love me?" ($1.99) Stone Temple Pilots' "Sex Type Thing" ($1.99) Weezer's "El Scorcho" ($1.99) PAIN "Fun with explosives!" Single-player add-on ($ ) PAIN "Hung Lo" add-on character ($ ) Bionic Commando Rearmed trailer (free) MLB 08 The Show "Stolen Base" video (free) MLB 08 The Show "Pitcher batter analysis" tutorial video (free) MLB 08 The Show "Replay vault" tutorial video (free) Conflict: Denied Ops Dev. diary 4 (free) Kung Fu Panda teaser trailer (free) We Own The Night Blu-Ray trailer (free) If you're only going to download one thing from the above list, make sure it's El Scorcho for Rock Band. We will forgive all of Harmonix' poor March release choices for including that song in today's update. We love it that much. We're glad PAIN has received some DLC because, to be honest, we haven't played the game at all this year. An extra level would've been nice, but a new mode and character isn't to be sniffed at. Those of you who weren't sure about picking up PixelJunk Monsters can now, finally, try it out before you buy with today's demo. It's a great game, so be sure to give it a shot.

Rut roh. Don't look now, but today's update is really rather bad. It's been a while since we've come out and said that a PSN update has been dire, because the quality has improved drastically over the last six months. Still, unless you're a fan of developer diaries, or demos that have been on the US Store for two weeks, then there's not a lot here for you. Here's the full release list: Lost Planet online demo (free) Conflict: Denied Ops launch trailer (free) Conflict: Denied Ops Dev Diary 3 video (free) Assassin's Creed Dev Diary trailer: Altair (free) 7 Devil May Cry 4 wallpapers (free) Sports theme (free) It seems that SCEE have put Snakeball back on the front page, even though it came out in December. Our guess is it's their attempt to pad out today's update, but it hasn't really worked. Oh well, the long wait until next Thursday starts now.

We have received word that the multiplayer demo of Lost Planet will finally be making its ways to the European PSN Store this Thursday. Hopefully it won't suffer from the same issues that the American demo did when it was released two weeks ago. We're fairly certain most people would have downloaded the demo from the US Store, but for those of you who to prefer to stick with a single, European, PSN account - this is good news. Unless, of course, the game doesn't interest you at all. In which case you can ignore this post and ponder on what other goods we might be seeing hit the Store this Thursday.

  • Sony touts 52 million PSN downloads

Boy, you guys must really hate going to your local game retailer. Sony today announced that it's PSN Online Store has racked up an impressive 52 million downloads since launching with the PS3 back in November '06 (and expanding to the PSP in November '07).For context, Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace reached to 50 million download milestone back in August '06, roughly five months faster than Sony's network (when staggered launch dates are taken into account). Sony's current mark of 2.9 million registered PSN users also pales in comparison to the 7 million Xbox Live users as of last September, though Microsoft's head start likely played a part in that lead.Still, Sony's online service is going in the right direction, growing from 6.6 million downloads in Dec. '07 to 7.9 million in Jan. '08. And with the PS3 starting to outsell the Xbox 360 in the American marketplace, could the much-predicted Sony turnaround finally be coming to pass?

    02.14.2008

Another Thursday, another content drop for the PSN Store. Nothing too exciting today. The only playable content is a demo of MLB 08 The Show (sports? Yuck!). There's more Rock Band content and a whole load of new trailers and videos. Here's the full release list: MLB 08 The Show demo (free) Rock Band "Punk Pack 1" ($5.49) The Clash's "Complete Control" ($1.99) The Ramones' "Teenage Lobotomy" ($1.99) The Police' "Truth Hits Everybody" ($1.99) LittleBigPlanet "Create-A-Level" trailer (free) Super Stardust HD theme (free) MLB 08 "RTTS Tutorial" video (free) Conflict: Denied Ops Dev Diary 2 (free) Conflict: Denied Ops Dev Diary 3 (free) Turok "Creatures" trailer (free) Turok "Weapons" trailer (free) Burnout "Accolades" trailer (free) The Ruins movie trailer (free) Patapon demo for PSP only (free) MLB 08 The Show demo for PSP only (free) We're starting to get a bit disappointed with the Rock Band content. Consistent? Yes, we certainly can't fault them for that, but where are the fun songs? The really famous ones? We want The Final Countdown and Don't Stop Me Now. Besides, it's been a couple of months since release and we haven't seen any full albums yet ...The most worthwhile thing in the above list is the Patapon demo. If you own a PSP then you owe it to yourself to try out this game. We had some hands-on time with it at TGS in September, have a read and find out what we thought.

Sony has a Valentines Day gift for those of you who are enamoured with the upcoming rhythm action game Patapon. Chances are you might've downloaded the Japanese demo of the game after it went online last week, but tomorrow you will be able to try it out in a language that is more familiar. The English demo will go online tomorrow and will be available from the PSN Store on PC and PS3. The demo has previously only been available by pre-ordering the game from Gamestop, so we're chuffed to see it being made available for all via "the power of the interwebs".Check back tomorrow for the full list of PSN Store updates, as usual.

Another pretty unexciting PSN update rounds off the rather uninspiring month of January. Fans of Folklore will be happy to receive the final set of download content for the game. Rock Band players, on the other hand, have another few songs to grab (though, again, these are quite uninspiring). Here's the full release list: Conflict: Denied Ops demo (free) Folklore add-on bundle 3 ($5.99) Folklore add-on 5 ($3.99) Folklore add-on 6 ($3.99) Rock Band downloadable content ($1.99) Smashing Pumpkins' "Siva" Rush's "Working Man" (cover) Coheed & Cambria's "Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial)" (cover) Go! Sports Skydiving trailer (free) Battlefield: Bad Company "Haggard's Blog" video (free) 2 PixelJunk Monsters wallpapers (free) Prince Caspian movie trailer (free) Prom Night movie trailer (free) Across The Universe Blu-Ray trailer (free) Daddy Day Camp Blu-Ray trailer (free)

  • Bionic Commando parachuting onto PSN this year [UPDATE]

    by

    01.16.2008

Capcom has a thing for remaking their old games and putting them on new hardware, as you might have noticed if you're a PSP owner (Mega Man Powered Up, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X and Ultimate Ghosts & Goblins to name but a few). It has now been revealed that they will be attempting to cash in on the upcoming Bionic Commando title for the PS3 by remaking the old NES classic in full 3D. When we say "full 3D" we do, of course, mean "3D models and 2D gameplay".Sounds fine to us, we're always happy to see new content hit the PSN. Of course, there's no indication as to when this might happen (gosh, we've been saying that a lot recently ... ) but Japan will get it in the Spring, so don't expect it before then.[UPDATE] It turns out that the PSN game (Bionic Commando Rearmed) is not a remake, but is more of a sequel. The next-gen version of Bionic Commando is a remake, but in full full 3D. As opposed to Rearmed's "full" 3D, which is actually 2D with 3D models. Confused? So are we.

    01.10.2008

Imagine our surprise. We usually take a little time to center ourselves before we check the PC PSN Store. While the PS3 gets lots of goodies every week, PSP owners are lucky if they get a PS1 game or two. Today, however, an unexpected surprise was waiting for us. Not only is Crash Bandicoot 2 available but so is something called "Ape Quest". From the description it seems to be a mini-game based RPG experience thing and is split into three different chapters, each of which is downloadable from the PS3 or PC Store. The bundle of all three chapters (Blue, Red and Gold) is available for $19.99 with each chapter sold separately at $9.99 each. In order to "complete" the game you must download either the Blue or Gold chapter as well as the Red chapter. All of this is worthless, however, unless you download the Starter Pack, which no doubt contains the majority of the game information. We're not sure exactly how the game will play out, but we're looking forward to finding out.[UPDATE] The PC store has now been updated to include Crash Bandicoot 2 and Ape Quest. Enjoy!

Good thing we have plenty of add-ons nowadays. Without them these updates would seem pretty small. Having said that, however, two playable games and two demos isn't to be sniffed at. Unless you have a cold. Here's the full release list: Crash Bandicoot 2 PS1 game ($5.99) Kane & Lynch demo (free) Super Stardust HD demo & upgrade (free; full game is $9.99) Folklore "The Alchemist Pack" add-on ($3.99) Folklore "The Origin of Belgae" add-on ($3.99) Need For Speed ProStreet "Bugatti Veyron 16.4" add-on ($2.99) Need For Speed ProStreet "McLaren F1" add-on ($2.99) Rock Band song downloads ($1.99 each) Stone Temple Pilots' "Interstate Love Song" The Hives' "Die, All right!" Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast" Burnout Paradise "Guns 'N Roses" trailer (free) Two PAIN themes (free) First Sunday movie trailer (free) Spiderwick Chronicles movie trailer (free) It's good to see the US finally getting the updated version of Super Stardust HD. To upgrade simply download the "demo" and it will overwrite your full copy of the game with the full, updated, version.
