Click for high-resolution image. Yesterday, Sony surprised PSP fans by announcing a brand new PSP-exclusive expansion of the Resistance franchise. Very little was known about the game from its initial debut: all we knew was that it came to us via Sony Bend, the incredible studio that brought us last year's PSP Game of the Year, Syphon Filter. The engine that they developed for that third-person action title was stellar, but from the early looks of Resistance, the team at Bend has just begun flexing their PSP muscles.Unlike Resistance on PS3, the upcoming PSP titles will play from a third person perspecitve, just like the Syphon Filter franchise on PSP. The story takes place in between Resistance and Resistance 2. Set in the weeks after Fall of Man, Retribution follows the story of former British Marine James Grayson. He is forced to kill his own brother inside a Chimeran conversion center, and thus inspires his bloodlust to destroy every conversion center he can find. Unfortunately, the Chimera have figured out a new way to convert humans ... and he must join the Mquis, the European resistance, in their fight against the deadly Chimera army. %Gallery-27814%

Not the trailer kids, just the struggle for mankind. At least in the Resistance 2 universe. The first video features the Chicago level. The Goliath destroys a helicopter and rockets launchers don't seem to affect the big guy. After trying to avoid the beast, it picks Hale up, and flings him right into a building. Another trailer shown at E3 after the jump.

Sony unveiled a major first party PS3 title heading for the PSP. Resistance for the PSP will be known as Resistance Retribution. It'll be a third person action game using an over-the-shoulder view. The game will be developed by Sony Bend, developers of the Syphon Filter PSP games. The game looks gorgeous. Pictured is Resistance Fall of Man and not the new PSP game.

A countdown to what appears to be July 22nd at 12 noon PST has appeared on the Resistance 2 ARG website projectabraham.com. Not much else has changed since the last update to the site. Though the Blackout portion of the site is now accessible directly via the logo right above the countdown. What could the countdown lead to? Chimera attack? Or more information on beta codes? We will find out in about a week! [Thanks, Jonas!]

Two retail print ads have shown what appears to be three PlayStation 3 titles getting the "Greatest Hits" treatment. The trio shouldn't be surprising: Resistance, Motorstorm and Warhawk. A Kmart print ad shows box art with a red banner reading "Greatest Hits," while a Circuit City ad shows the same three games, sans new packaging, for $30. (You can tell it's the most recent ad since Soul Calibur IV is mentioned as coming out this week.) We expect an official announcement at Sony's press conference this week at E3 2008.[Via PS3 Fanboy]Source - Circuit City adSource - Kmart ad

  • Katee Sackhoff is Dr. Cassie Aklin in Resistance 2 ARG video

Following the previous video, both parts of the Resistance 2 ARG website projectabraham.com have been updated. It appears the female, identified as Cassie Aklin, is a government doctor. She speaks to another doctor about the man from the last video, about the influenza and experiments, warning she will not be "a counselor to a slaughter house." Before long, the doors begin slamming and Cassie runs off to get help. The Blackout part of the site has also been updated with a letter from a Colonel Grant Thompson addressed to Cassie, aka Dr. Aklin. It informs her that the government has "suspended all injections until further notice" and that only six candidates remain in the Project Abraham because of "unexpected results to the first injection of the serum."Some questions we are thinking about: Is Nathan Hale one of the remaining six subjects? Is this Project Abraham what turned him into what he is? Share your thoughts in the comments below.[Thanks, Jonathan C.!]

    07.03.2008

We are not sure how they did it, but some very clever posters over at NeoGAF has found us another ARG website for Resistance 2. The website features a woman standing over you at what appears to be a hospital, concerned for your well-being, before she is forcibly removed and the video ends with a long beep. What does this all mean? Is that actress Katee Sackhoff of Battlestar Galatica fame standing over us in this video? What is Project Abraham? Is that logo on her shirt the same as the one of the US military from getawarjob.com? The Morse code at the end of the video apparently spells "blackout" and leads you to another part of the site, with a picture of seven guys that you can move around on a table. Is Nathan Hale one of these guys? Is the darkness on the sides moving? We noticed pressing tab will frame a yellow rectangle around the picture. You can also drag the picture all the way off screen on the bottom and the right, but not the top and the left, And what is that in the window on the left? Take a look around and post your thoughts on this. *hums The X-files theme*[Via NeoGAF -- thanks, Noshino!]

While GamePro is sharing the goods on Resistance 2 in its latest issue, we know that not everyone is a fan of getting their game news off the rack so we thought we'd share the first couple of screens from the magazine's cover story. Posted by the PlayStation Blog, the shots give us a look at Chimera-occupied Chicago as well as the city's resident boss, a massive 300-foot Leviathan. Honestly, we don't know if we're more excited to collect the Trophy for dropping this baddie, or simply watch him rip through downtown, Cloverfield-style.%Gallery-26754%

Let's not mince words, Insomniac's Resistance 2 is sure to be one of Sony's heaviest hitters during E3 later this month. But if you can't wait for what is sure to be minutes devoted to the Trophy-enabled shooter during Sony's pre-show festivities, you might want to take a peek at what GamePro has in store for its latest issue, which features a fold-out cover of the above art, with war-themed propaganda on the back. Nice!Among the details promised, the mag will offer a look at the game's campaign, co-op, and competitive multiplayer modes, as well as a gaze skyward at a towering 300-foot tall Chimera that besets Chicago as the game's first end-level nasty. For more, we suggest heading to your favorite magazine rack to pick up the latest issue of GamePro, and let your eyeballs soak up the August issue's 10-page cover story on the upcoming FPS.

Earlier we mentioned the ARG website getawarjob.com for Resistance 2 and now it appears to be up and operational. The xenophobic urgings of the virtual pamphlets seem almost eerily authentic and calling the number above will result in a message about obligations to defend the "red, white and blue," against "the forces that conspire against us" and exhorts you to "get a war job." A medical pamphlet also alerts us to an "European influenza" and safeguarding the US against "death, disease and destruction." The typewriter in the center has a form for you to fill out including your address and even a listing of "all major medical issues." We were filling out ours half-way and wondering if we were really signing away our lives...[Thanks, grief and David!]

As you may already know, GamePro has scored an exclusive feature for Resistance 2. The issue, which should be hitting newsstands and subscribers soon, features a massive three page-wide cover -- a massive panoramic piece of Resistance 2 art. However, more intriguing than the cover is the great promo art featured on the back. Made to look like early sensational newspapers (think The Inquirer), these fake ads talk about the upcoming fight against the Chimera and link to the not-yet-functional getawarjob.com. We're expecting a fun "ilovebees-esque" ARG experience through this new effort. Stay tuned.

PS3 Fanboy brings word that a new slice of Resistance 2 footage has popped up on YouTube after appearing on (then disappearing from) Eurogamer TV. If you want a fresh look at Sony's big FPS for the fall, watch it while it's hot. There's a good chance this instance of the video will get pulled soon as well. Update: We have removed the embedded YouTube player as a courtesy to Sony. (It's still up on YouTube though!)

When magazines compete, you win. EGM may have secured the exclusive cover story on Killzone 2, but GamePro has the details on the other big PS3 FPS game, Resistance 2. Insomiac's 60-player FPS promises a new epic story, and an almost mind-numbing amount of multiplayer functionality. GamePro isn't just content with providing a preview and tons of juicy hype text ("Better than Halo. Bigger than Call of Duty" is proudly featured on the cover). No, they're going to do much more than that. They're giving away free codes to the Resistance 2 beta. Not every issue will be a winner, but this is the first opportunity the general public will have at getting into the beta. We're sure other methods of entry will pop up (Qore, anyone?). But for those that cannot resist, the next issue of GamePro is one to look out for.[Thanks, Ether02!]

Insomniac Games tells Eurogamer that trophy and Home support will not be added into Resistance: Fall of Man contrary to our previous report. Both features, however, will be fully supported for the upcoming Resistance 2 coming out this Fall.In all honesty, we're perfectly fine without both features in the first Resistance. It's really time to move forward anyway. Resistance 2 is on the horizon and that's where the development focus should be fixated on. We just hope that at least one out of these two features will be ready by game's launch.

Insomniac's push eastward was one of last week's most intriguing items of interest, despite a lack of details concerning what exactly the Ratchet & Clank developer has in store for its new Raleigh, NC studio. However, while we don't know exactly what the Burbank, California-based developer has up its sleeves, we figured if anyone had the scoop it would be current Insomniac art director Chad Dezern and gameplay guru Shaun McCabe, both of whom will be given reigns over the company's eastern arm once it opens in January. We recently spoke with both execs about the new studio, and we couldn't help but kick off the interview by asking the one nagging question on our mind: Why North Carolina?"We wanted to expand Insomniac's capabilities while retaining the small team culture in Burbank. Opening up an office in The Triangle lets us do that while also offering an alternative for talented people who want to stay on the East Coast," Dezern answered. "Plus, Shaun and I are from the South and we missed the distant strumming of the banjo."

  • Both Resistance games to get Home and trophy support

    06.04.2008

Ted Price recently divulged to Eurogamer in a live text interview that both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will be receiving Home and trophy support. We've known for awhile now that the first Resistance will be getting the Home treatment, but now it's great to hear confirmation for the second title. However, with Home still light years away, it's really difficult to truly be excited for this. Trophies, on the other hand, are a whole other story.Rumors about trophy support in the upcoming firmware 2.40 update, and footage of BioShock with a trophy icon all give the impression that this hotly anticipated feature will indeed be coming soon. Don't forget that there are a whole list of games recently stated to support trophies as well, and, well, we speculate that trophies will be available by the time Resistance 2 hits this Fall.
