Capcom's Seth Killian has posted a friendly note for fighting fans on the official Capcom blog, reminding us that Street Fighter IV begins hitting Japanese arcades the week of July 21. Not all that helpful for those of stuck in the States. Thankfully, "S-KILL" also has the lowdown on where and when the general public can experience the game for themselves on this side of the Pacific. The final coin-op version of SFIV will be playable July 24-27 at San Diego Comic-Con and at the Evolution 2008 fighting game competition finals in Las Vegas from August 8-10. As an added bonus for EVO 2008 attendees, Capcom will have the latest build of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on hand as well.%Gallery-21918%

These posters are such beauties, and we want them. Unfortunately, they are in Japan. A black one with an orange IV logo features Ryu with new characters Crimson Viper, Abel, El Fuerte and Rufus. An orange one with a black IV logo features old favorites Guile, Ken and Chun-Li. Capcom-Unity blogger Kramez has two pictures of the Street Fighter IV posters held up by SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono. Another one after the jump. Check them out and drool.[Via Capcom-Unity]

Have you ever wanted to star in a video game? Well, this may not be stardom, but it's something. You can become an avatar in the background of the upcoming Street Fighter IV. Capcom-Unity, the cleverly named official Capcom blog, is offering a number of fans to have digital clones of their likenesses injected into the console versions of the fighting game. You'll have to send in "pictures, video, dissertations, limericks, daguerrotypes, singing telegraphs" by next Wednesday, June 18th to be eligible. Check out all the details here.

Seth "S-KILL" Killian of Capcom just shot us some news fireball-style that should send Street Fighter fans into a frenzy. Capcom-Unity, the official Capcom community blog, is offering a yet-to-be-determined number of fans a chance to have their likenesses included in the console version of Street Fighter IV. Specifically, the game's producer, Yoshinori Ono, has agreed to pop fans' faces onto background characters. For real.Capcom is asking anyone who'd like to be considered to send in "pictures, video, dissertations, limericks, daguerreotypes, singing telegrams" by next Wednesday, June 18. So, if you want your short at immortality – at least in a "video game extra" form – you'd better get on it. Full details, including the email address for submissions can be found in Seth's blog post.[Thanks, Seth!]

  • Ryu not planning to punch you in the face

Recurring rumors have been flying about for some time now concerning the possible release of Street Fighter IV on the Wii. It was never a long shot to hope the port would be made, but producer Yoshinori Ono pretty much summed it up speaking at Capcom's Captivate 08: "The fact of the matter is we haven't planned for a Wii version yet." Plans? Since when is this planning thing important for game development? Well, Ryu's totally badass Shoryuken is always unplanned, and comes out of nowhere when you least expect it. Maybe when the time is right, we'll get a face full of hard-hitting SFIV Wii news. For now ... no plans.

  • More details on Street Fighter IV console exclusive content

It turns out that online play and new characters are not the only exclusive content to appear on the home console versions of Street Fighter IV. First and foremost, new content like the introduction of fully animated cut scenes will help flesh out Street Fighter IV's story. The story explaining why M. Bison is alive and kicking will be addressed in these anime sequences. The second major content addition is the possibility of bonus rounds making a comeback. Remember all those barrel busting and car demolishing mini-games back in SF II?Lastly, an arcade joystick is said to be in the works for all those arcade enthusiasts that can't settle for a d-pad. It's also possible that this arcade controller might come in a bundle with the game. Check out Kotaku for more pics of the anime cut scenes.

This includes a couple of Street Fighter IV trailers which show off some new characters, along with plenty of in game footage and some more of that gorgeous ink-and-watercolor style concept art. It's the "epic return" of Street Fighter, according to Capcom's newest TV spot. We don't know how we feel about the use of Faith no More's appropriately-titled "Epic" as the trailer music, but using any popular music does seem to make a game more appealing to the mainstream. There isn't any new footage to be found in this brief trailer, but it makes us happy to finally see the PLAYSTATION 3 logo at the end of anything SFIV-related. %Gallery-21874%

  • Street Fighter IV: Console exclusives, new site and possible release

Earlier last week Famistu confirmed the console versions of Street Fighter IV would feature exclusive online play (shocking, no online for arcades? Joke.) and characters, two of which have been revealed to be Bruce Lee look-a-like Fei Long and SF inside joke, Dan.This week Capcom has launched a new promotional website for Street Fighter IV. Offering the latest 'Epic' trailer and links to the blog for Street Fighter IV and the upcoming Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li movie, the site shows off little in the way of new content. Interestingly enough the site offers two pre-order methods for Street Fighter IV. One allows gamers to order directly from Capcom while the other is linked back to GameStop who is offering a collectible art book with purchase and lists a ship date of February 2, 2009. While the date may change, it give us a general idea of when to expect the anticipated fighter.[via Joystiq & Big Download]

  • We've got Faith No More in the new Street Fighter IV trailer

The font of incredible trailers continues to pour from the bounteous spigot of CAPtivate '08 -- the above trailer for Street Fighter IV went live rather subtly last night, only to deliver a patented E. Honda "thousand hand bitch slap" to our unprepared senses this Sunday morning. It even includes one of our favorite songs to sing from Rock Band: Faith No More's "Epic". We don't know why seeing Blanka go all sparky to the disjointed vocals of Mike Patton gets us so hyped, but our excitement for the revivification of what many would argue is the greatest arcade fighting series ever has just increased tenfold. However, it should be noted that depending on your feelings towards Gamestop and their pre-order policies, you may view the last seven seconds of this righteous trailer as being decidedly un-epic.

We're really intrigued by Street Fighter IV, but not nearly as intrigued as we are by the trailer released by Capcom at Captivate08. Reminiscent of a fan-made YouTube video, the latest trailer for Street Fighter IV plays out as Faith No More's hit-song, "Epic," blasts in the background. We never thought we'd see Street Fighter marketed that way. Either way, the footage looks solid and we can't wait to get some quality time with Capcom's best-selling franchise again. Wait, Jean Claude Van Damme played Guile didn't he? Guess no one knows how Street Fighter should be marketed!

  • Fei Long, Dan join Street Fighter IV home roster

Following this morning's news that the recently announced home versions of Street Fighter IV would come packing the extra punch of online play and an expanded cast, a new report confirms two familiar fighters who will be added to the game's hurricane kick beyond the arcade. According to IGN, Japanese publication Famitsu Xbox released concept art illustrating Bruce Lee-inspired Fei Long and Alpha vet Dan Hibiki, adding that both fighters will be home version exclusives. While Fei Long certainly makes sense, the laughably weak Dan has always served more as comic relief, though we look forward to the hilariously drawn out Dan vs. Dan online throw downs to come when the game is eventually released.

It seems the home console versions of Street Fighter IV are going to be where it's at. Japan's Famitsu magazine squeezed the information out of the game's producer, Yoshinori Ono, in a recent interview. The console versions will allow you to play against friends via online modes as well as add in some console-exclusive characters. We aren't sure if this means "console specific" like Soul Calibur IV, but some of the exclusive characters have recently been confirmed as Dan and Fei Long. Oh, Dan. You are so very weird. There's also a list of five new characters up on Famitsu, but these aren't console-specific characters, we don't think.

Gone are the days when arcades represented the superior video game experience. While a part of us may cry coin operated tears at this realization, Capcom is quick to remind us that there is even more fun to be had at home, or at least there will be when the recently announced domesticated flavor of Street Fighter IV is released for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Speaking in an interview with Japan's Weekly Famitsu, producer Yoshinori Ono revealed that the home version of the upcoming fighter will include features not found in the arcade original, among them online play and exclusive characters. As we've come to expect from our Street Fighter IV news, Ono offered few specifics, saying only that the team is "watching the overall balance" in designing additions to the home version's roster. He added that the devs "won't be adding unnecessary stuff" to the online experience, dashing our dreams of an internet thumb war between Blanka and Chun Li.

  • Here's another two new characters for Street Fighter IV

All right, what have we got here? It looks like we're seeing more Street Fighter IV characters. The guy on the left, named Rufus, is morbidly obese and obviously training in the same dojo as Tekken 6's Bob. The fact that he is holding a tub of popcorn could mean one of either two things: he loves movies so much that after watching the new flick (and ogling over Kristin Kreuk) he plans on becoming a street fighter himself, or they just want to exude the fact that this guy is carrying a few extra pounds. The other guy, Seth, seems to be a mysterious mix of the Silver Surfer and a Buddhist monk. Or so it seems due to that Yin Yang for an abdomen. Throw in his Hebrew name and then he's an even bigger enigma to figure out. Perhaps you'll just have to see more of these characters to understand who they are. You can catch some more pics over at Famitsu's website.

A few days ago we reported a rumor that cited Street Fighter IV as an upcoming Xbox 360, PS3 and PC release--well they are rumors-no-more. Last night Capcom confirmed [via IGN] that the 2/3D fighter hybrid will land on next generation consoles as well as Windows-based PCs, continuing the company's recent support of the platform (as in Devil May Cry 4 and Lost Planet PC releases). More details regarding the title is expected at the upcoming Captivate08 event in Las Vegas. Press email after the jump.[via Joystiq]

Capcom has confirmed that the next installment in the confusingly-numbered Street Fighter franchise will definitely be made available on PS3. This announcement comes after months of silence regarding a home-console version of Street Fighter IV and fears that it would be made exclusive one way or the other. This isn't the case, however, as the game will be made available on the 360 and PC too, with only the Wii missing a piece of the action. There's no word on a release date or details of any differences between the console and arcade versions, but all that info will no doubt come in time. Until then, it's nice to know that at some point in the future we'll be fighting it out on the streets in HD. From the comfort of our own home.[Via Press Release]

  • Rumor: Street Fighter IV heading to PS3, Xbox 360, PC this winter

Since announcing Street Fighter IV, Capcom has given us a number of things to ponder about the upcoming sequel, from 3D graphics to giant thumbs, but one thing the company hasn't given us is a release date, not to mention where exactly we'll be able to play the game once it finally makes its way to retail. However this may be about to change, as according to French blog Jeuxvideo, Capcom recently made mention on a press site that the fighter is headed to the PS3, Xbox 360, and -- surprisingly -- the PC as well, with all three versions slated to hurricane kick retail shelves this winter.Unfortunately, the site neglected to link to the press site in question, and Joystiq ninjas have since returned from Capcom's press tower with nothing to show for their trouble, leaving us to flag this particular morsel of information as a rumor, albeit one we'd very much like to come true.
