'The Last of Us Part II' will be released on June 19th
Sony is also pushing back 'Ghost of Tsushima' by a few weeks.
'Ghost of Tsushima' hits PS4 in summer 2020
As revealed during Sony's State of Play stream Tuesday, The Game Awards had an extended look at Ghost of Tsushima, along with a release window: summer 2020. The PlayStation 5 is set to arrive next holiday season, so if this is Sony's last big first-party title for the PS4, it's shaping up to be a heck of a pretty swansong.
'Ghost of Tsushima' shows off gorgeous, brutal combat
We've just gotten our first look at developer Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima. In the demo, we saw plenty of combat, with the player executing parries like we haven't seen since Xbox One launch title, Ryse: Son of Rome. Except, you know, without all the quick-time events. Our protagonist is just as adept at sneaking through the bushes and stealthily taking out guards with his sword, clambering around on rooftops a la the old Tenchu: Stealth Assassins games, and then sinking his blade into hapless foes below.
The 'Infamous' team is working on a Samurai game
Sucker Punch Productions, the studio behind the Infamous series, is building a new open-world game set in the mountains of ancient Japan: Ghost of Tsushima. So far, we've only seen a cinematic trailer for the new title, but it gives away a few clues: Ghost of Tsushima is set in 1247, and it focuses on Samurai life and swordplay, featuring a calculating and cruel villain intent on conquering the land. Ghost of Tsushima is a departure for Sucker Punch. Infamous is a decidedly sci-fi kind of story, starring super-powered humans and lots of neon light. Ghost of Tsushima appears to be more serious in tone.
Playdate: We're livestreaming Infamous Second Son for PS4! (update: it's over!)
Welcome ladygeeks and gentlenerds to the new era of gaming. The one where you get to watch, and comment, as other people livestream gameplay from next-gen consoles. Since our live gameplay of Titanfall for Xbox One went over so well, we've decided to make this a regular feature for any major, new release, quirky indie, or, really, any game we deem worthy enough. Because games! They're fun! Are you a good guy or are you a bad guy? It's a morality tale as old as time itself -- or, maybe it's just as old as the first inFamous on PlayStation 3 back in 2009. Cole, the protagonist of the series' previous two titles, may be dead (we think?), but his legacy lives on in Delsin, the new superhero/villain (it's your choice, really) at the heart of Sucker Punch's inFamous Second Son. The game, set for release tomorrow, is Sony's first in-house AAA exclusive for the PlayStation 4. And lucky you, we're here to play it live so you can virtually try before you buy. It's all happening just after the break. Update: It's over now, but thanks for playing!
PS3 and PS4 will have the earliest access to Destiny beta, exclusive content in MGS 5
Beyond the obvious new hardware flying about and news from Naughty Dog, there were a few additional tidbits revealed tonight at Sony's PlayStation 4 launch event. The PlayStation brand as a whole will offer gamers a few things they can't get elsewhere, with the PS3 and PS4 both offering the earliest access to a beta test for Bungie's Destiny (if you haven't pre-ordered, check the blog for invite codes) early next year, plus an exclusive "classic" Solid Snake skin and mission in Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes when it launches next spring. Finally, the next entry for Sucker Punch's Infamous series has a release date, as it revealed Infamous: Second Son will be released March 21st, 2014. There's a trailer for each after the break (plus an overall PS4 launch trailer), view and plan your next-gen purchases wisely.
Electrifying new inFAMOUS screens surface
click to electro-size Zap! Bang! Pow! Those are the names we've given to three new screens of Sucker Punch's open-world superhero/villain game that have appeared on the official PlayStation blog. We think they're only fitting since each shot depicts Dylan, the good/bad guy from inFAMOUS, using his electric bolts to tear the town a new one. The game continues to look great, albeit very ... brown. Maybe these screens are just from the game's Brown District. (Okay, so we don't actually know that it has such a district, or even districts at all, but please play along?) Along with the screens, Sony mentions that it will have "a bunch of news" about inFAMOUS at E3. We hope the "news" is that the game is actually playable at the show (and less brown). inFAMOUS looking imPRESSIVE
Our frothing demand for this game increases.* After all, the Sly Cooper series offered some of the prettiest and most fun experiences on PS2. So when Sucker Punch – the folks behind the raccoon – makes an open-world game with super powers and drool-worthy looks, we're all over it. The UK's semi-official PS3 blog, Three Speech, got its digi-mitts on three new screens from inFAMOUS, which, according to the site, will be keeping GameStop employees asking if we want to pre-order it until ... 2009. Still, we'll also surely be seeing more of the game next month at E3. We'd better. Or ... or ... our frothing demand for this game will probably stay just about the same. *Thanks to IGN for the use of their Ikaruga (GCN) box cover quote to kick off this post. %Gallery-26262%
InFAMOUS not due until 2009
It wasn't too long ago that we last heard about inFAMOUS. If you picked up the July issue of Game Informer, you would've been treated to a nice, long eleven-page feature getting you all skittish over the sandbox gameplay. However -- and quite a big one at that -- your enthusiasm for being infamous will have to wait. Sony says that this PS3 exclusive won't be available until 2009 for PAL territories. Keywords here are "PAL territories" which confirms European distribution and at the same time pretty much tells us a North American date should be somewhat similar. We might not be able to play the game until next year, but we're pretty sure we'll see more on this title come E3.
New PS3 title announced: Infamous
The title is technically inFAMOUS, but that'd be silly to type every time, so we'll type it like a normal word. Anyway, Infamous is a brand new title that came out of left field at Sony's E3 conference. Watch the trailer above if you missed it. It looks like someone took the idea behind City of Heroes/Villains and KOTOR and slapped the two together into a fantastic looking experience. We especially like the short scene near the end with the bridge and the lightning and the destruction. Check it out, leave your thoughts!
Sony announces Infamous, new sandbox PS3 game from Sly Cooper devs
With GTA IV going to Xbox 360 as well, Sony's itching for some exclusive sandbox action for their Playstation 3. Enter Infamous, a new open-ended action/exploration game from Suckerpunch, the developers of the Sly Cooper games. Phil Harrison, COO of Sony Computer Entertainment, introduced the game at Sony's E3 2007 keynote, showing what appeared to be in-game footage of a main character using numerous superpowers. An odd blur of City of Heroes and Crackdown, players will determine whether they want their characters to become heroes or villains in the course of gameplay, with supposedly different powers and missions as a result. Very little is known about Infamous at the moment, and with no rough release date mentioned, the game is presumed to be in the early development stages.
New Sly Cooper games coming to PSP, PS3?
Have the latest issue of PSM? Neither do we. However, PSX Extreme is reporting that the latest issue has an interview with Sucker Punch, the developers behind the popular Sly Cooper series of games. In the interview, the developers mention that two new Sly Cooper games were coming out: one for PSP, and one for PS3.The two titles are supposed to launch simultaneously, with PS3-PSP connectivity available from the get-go. The games will be unveiled at mini-E3 later this year in Santa Monica -- and we'll be there to find out more.
