Merely minutes after Palm shook up the mobile realm with the introduction of the Pre, Sprint -- its exclusive launch partner -- has already hosted up a dedicated website for what will unquestionably be its flagship device. Currently, all the site offers is a way to get informed of when it'll be out, but that's all you really need at the moment, now isn't it?[Thanks, MTW]

  • Wired's vaporware column adds Hero's Journey next to Duke Nukem Forever

And everyone at the Massively offices scratched their heads at the same time and said, "Huh?" All right, so Hero's Journey has been in production for, well, forever, but just because the game isn't coming out anytime soon doesn't exactly warrant it on the vaporware list at position number 8.Especially as the game's engine, the now well-known HeroEngine, has been licensed by BioWare for this Star Wars game you might have heard about. The HeroEngine development has caught on like wildfire, and even Simutronics's own Neil Harris has said to Massively that the game is on the back burner while the engine development is in the forefront. But, they still haven't left the game entirely in the dust. They've said that the game still has a long way to come in terms of content and polishing, but they're still letting people log in and play -- even when they're not around. The website even features in-game footage and screenshots, a bit more than Duke blowing some smoke at the camera and uttering a classic Duke-ism.With all that said, Hero's Journey hasn't been pressing for release or gaining undue hype. It's a game that has been sitting in the corner, lurking, waiting for the right moment to strike. Plus, with most vaporware, we're usually left hanging -- wondering what exactly those developers have been doing with their time when they should have been developing. With Simutronics, we know exactly what they've been doing -- making a great engine. So that leaves the question, is it still vaporware if we know we shouldn't expect it?

  • Sony VAIO Japanese teaser suggests something long, thin, and "coming soon"

Sony is continuing its drip drip of teasers on a new entry to its VAIO line with a Japanese placeholder sure to pique just the slightest bit of curiosity. When you venture over to the company's co.jp landing page, you're greeting with a quick Flash animation of a woman pulling a long, thin rectangle out of her clutch... which ends up being an envelope reading "VAIO New Mobile, Coming Soon." Your guess is as good as ours -- as long as you're guessing it's this thing.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

There's not much to on besides a teaser page right now (okay, so there's only a teaser page right now), but here's the important part: DivX 7 is coming, and it's due next month. The next-generation of the software promises "true HD video" with H.264 video and AAC audio, and apparently it'll present something akin to "a cinematic experience" on your computer. Pretty bold claims there -- thank goodness we've but a matter of weeks to determine if it lives up to 'em or not.

A next Metal Gear is ... apparently being teased by a barren and maddeningly cryptic page on the Kojima Productions website. The internet detectives among you have likely concluded that a green power icon can only signal one thing. (That the game will require electricity!)Before you folks tear open that wound again, take note that we have no idea when this teaser was posted, what it implies or why Mr. Kojima takes so much sinister pleasure in taunting us. We'll let you know if Konami tells us what comes after that ellipsis. Oh dear, it's not an iPhone game, is it?[Via NeoGAF]

  • LG launches Prada II teaser site, matching Bluetooth watch

Not that it wasn't official already or anything, but nothing demonstrates dedication to a product like an exclusive home on the web. Yep, LG has just launched a standalone microsite for the altogether sexy Prada II, and while you already know about the specs -- HSDPA, WiFi, 5-megapixel camera, 3-inch 400 x 240 pixel capacitive multi-touch display and quad-band GSM connectivity -- you probably weren't aware of the matching Prada Link Bluetooth watch. As you'd expect, the timepiece syncs with your Prada II and shows your incoming calls / texts, and we'll go out on a limb and presume that it tells time, too. Sadly, the tidbits we're most interested in (a release date and pricing) aren't clearly available on the site, but we'll be refreshing like madmen hoping for that to change.[Via UnwiredView]

We've less than a week before RED announces something special on November 13th, but it's not letting you creep any closer to that magical day without two more teases (one after the break) beforehand. As it's already done on a number of occasions, RED's Jim Jannard has posted up a new duo of teasers of the purported DSMC (Digital Still & Motion Camera) DSLR, this time showing off a number of ports that you're surely anxious to slip your connectors into. Oh please, get your mind out of the gutter.

What is this, the day of the tease or something? We're already at our wits' end after what RED did to us earlier, we're not so sure we can withstand another. In an Alienware Insider e-mail (titled "Countdown to Launch") sent out to select individuals, the above picture was included -- and, that was it. We've reason to believe the new product might be dubbed LM7, but that's far from concrete at this point. What's not far, however, is the official unveiling of whatever this thing is. Desktop? Laptop? Alienware's valiant entry into the world of head-mounted displays? Tick, tick, tick...[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

  • Voodoo's Rahul Sood continues to tease new product, calls it "forward-thinking"

    10.29.2008

Oh Rahul, why must you tease us so? Over a month after you referenced that "some other thing," we're still left to wonder what exactly "that thing" is. In a recent video response (posted after the break) to a question surrounding the HP Blackbird 002 gaming PC, Voodoo's founder closes things out by informing viewers that a product "way ahead of its time" is sitting just behind him, but he confesses that he can't show it off just yet. Of course, he also threw in the "forward-thinking" buzzword and assured us that the industry would "absolutely embrace" it, but as of now, there's simply nothing there to wrap our retinas around besides that smile. The game's growing tired, Mr. Sood.

We heard the name CLEO back in August when an obscure e-mail from Verizon slipped through the cracks with a bit of foreshadowing information, but until now, we've been left in the proverbial dark as to what the thing would look like. From what we can gather peering at the image above, this here flip phone looks more like a portable mirror / compact than a cellphone, but then again, maybe that's the point. Clearly aimed at your lady-friends (judging by the pink motif and floral accents), Miss Pris here should be sashaying out of secrecy and into the limelight this winter. Don't keep us waiting too long, Samsung -- soulless beauty is so easily forgotten.[Thanks, Thurston]

  • Epson teases nobody with its chubby netbook silhouette

Can you feel it? That tepid urge purging itself into a dew of sweaty anticipation across your forehead can only be attributed to another boxy netbook, this time presented by Epson in teaser format. The MiniNote hits Japan in November packing the usual netbook specs: 1.6GHz Atom with XP riding 1GB memory and 160GB hard disk, WiFi, and a 10.2-inch LCD slinging 1,024 x 600 pixels from bezel to bezel. Hardly worthy of so many exclamation points. That unfortunate silhouette even makes the LaVie Light look sleek by comparison. We can hardly wait to be amused by the spectacle of the unveiling.[Via Impress]

Twiddling your thumbs in anticipation of the beginning of Stargate Worlds' closed beta test? The folks over at Ten Ton Hammer have an NDA-exempt goodie for people who are waiting -- a video of a Ha'tak class Go'auld attack ship exploding in the stratosphere of a planet. We were actually a little surprised at how spectacular the explosion looked. TTH alleges that it's part of some pre-planned event within the game, so it's a special case, but still -- it's pretty awesome, with some interesting shaders to simulate the shockwave, and attractive fire effects as the broken pieces of the ship plummet through the air. Hey, there's not all that much Stargate Worlds video out there, y'know? We'll take what we can get.

  • Here we go again: New Bungie.net countdown expires 7:07 a.m. PT tomorrow

    09.24.2008

Bungie's website has a new teaser front page and a countdown on it -- and wouldn't you know, it's the exact same teaser from the now-infamous E3 debacle. The countdown expires at 7:07 a.m. PT tomorrow (that's 10:07 a.m. Joystiq Time), which is unsurprising given the developer's fondness for the number 7. Also of note: the page is called "defaultsi", the "si" possibly being a reference to The Superintendent (and again, the same URL from before). As for what the reveal could be, we've got a handful of ideas. Two teaser transmissions on the other main Bungie page, including one from The Superintendent that talked about Tokyo (it should be noted the Tokyo Game Show is next month) and another from a soldier under fire. We know Bungie is working on at least "three distinct projects," although one of those could've been the recently-released Halo 3 Title Update 2. One of those is a new Halo game unrelated to the Peter Jackson project (could it be Halo Recon Advanced Warfighter?). Other potential candidates include HaloCon, a Superintendent Xbox Live Arcade title and/or the Mythic map pack dates. Or could it be something completely different. Or it could be nothing at all. Again. Let's hope it's anything but the latter. Update: Commenter Edward Dean below shows us what is purported to be a picture from inside Halo 3 that teases a teaser for a new game tomorrow. We're trying to confirm its validity at the moment. Picture after the break.

This is going to be huge. Unfortunately, we're talking size not marketplace impact when Dell's 17-inch Precision "mobile workstation" rolls out this fall. This portable desktop replacement promises up to 1TB of storage configured in a dual-drive RAID configuration, quad-core processor, and 16GB of graphics memory (1GB for graphics) with enough oomph to power a pair of external 30-inch displays. It also includes a number of unidentified media slots and an integrated jog shuttle controller -- a pretty good hint at the mobile media types this laptop is targeting. Watch it all go down in the video after the break.Update: Heh, this is the same Dell leaked last month carrying the M6400 moniker.[Thanks, Gaurav S.]

  • SEGA teases new RPG to be revealed next week

    09.16.2008

What could SEGA be working on? Based off this newly revealed teaser site, the house that Sonic built is working on an RPG. It will be revealed in next week's issue of Famitsu which is out on Friday, September 26. Until then, we'll have to snoop around the website and make some speculative guesses.Well so far, all we know is that the game is an RPG and has something to do with dragons. Secondly, the background music has an undeniably 8-bit sound ... an era far preceding PlayStation. Is this a hint of some sort? A remake of an old title perhaps or a retro release a la Capcom and Mega Man 9? Whatever it is, we're quite enchanted by the music, so we're definitely intrigued to find out if this will be a PS3, PSP, or downloadable PSN title. [Via NeoGAF]

  • Voodoo can't just come clean, has to tease yet another new product

    09.14.2008

Most everyone digs a surprise, but the novelty tends to wear off after the third or fourth iteration of the same trick, wouldn't you say? Rather than just coming right out and showing us the wares, Voodoo's Rahul Sood is playing the tease card again with an obviously undisclosed new product. In an apparent attempt to keep the wave (started by the Omen and Envy 133, by the way) rolling, Mr. Sood has dropped a sliver of a hint on The Next Bench. He states that "there's also this other thing [Voodoo is] working on right now," but he very purposefully fails to elaborate. Just keep it sexy and overpowered and we won't kvetch about the build up... too much.[Thanks, William]

That's an honest to goodness media invite from Creative. The kind sent to tease us into attending product launches. So it's natural to expect something new from Creative when this thing kicks off on September 17th. Will we finally see the launch of Creative's long-rumored, and sorely-needed evolution to the Zen Vision or just more gear of notable sound quality but questionable build and interface design? We shall see.[Thanks, Brandon L.]

Turbine has released yet another teaser trailer for their Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria expansion coming this fall, and this time it focuses on The Flaming Deeps. This area is in the southern part of Moria, and home to many of the region's scariest Trolls, Goblins and Orcs. You can download it now from Massively's sister site Big Download!Expanding upon the walkthrough information we got on this area at PAX, this video shows a bit more of what to expect from these fiery caverns. We get a look at the gorgeous Dwarven architecture, their unique lighting system and the monstrous trolls that work the forges of The Flaming Deeps. These trolls are actually chained to a series of rails through the forge area to keep them on track with their specific job duties that basically consist of carrying the heavy stuff. Be sure to check out the entire fly-through trailer below, as well as our on-going coverage of Mines of Moria.

Canon just launched its teaser campaign dubbed, "Destined Evolution." There's no way at this point to know for sure, but that certainly looks like a compact, full-frame 5D body (pictured after the break) given the button locations, mode dial, and seemingly lack of a pop-up flash. Three years since the 5D was originally launched, Photokina suddenly can't come soon enough.Update: Another teaser shot with slightly more detail from Canon Japan posted after the break. The official English version of the Chinese-developed MMO Perfect World has been announced. It's called Perfect World International, and the closed beta will begin on August 19th, according to the new teaser website. The game was originally subscription-based, but later moved to a microtransaction model. The publisher asserts that this "established a level of quality not found in other free-to-play titles." Visually, that seems to be the case, although we haven't spent too much time exploring the gameplay. We have spent a little, though; check out our first impressions from way back when if you're curious.Features include most of the usual MMO trappings -- crafting, quests, world PvP. Chinese mythology-inspired setting. We don't get enough of that setting in microtransaction MMOs, do we? Oh, and apparently the game has like, a crapload of mounts.[Via MMORPG]
