  • EVE's Quantum Rise trailer depicts escalating conflict

With all of the announcements and events that have taken place this week at EVE Fanfest 2008, it's a safe bet that the forthcoming video footage related to the title should be interesting. CCP Games is kicking off the November 11th release of the Quantum Rise expansion with a video, depicting how the game's storyline is moving forward. As they did previously with the Empyrean Age release, rather than simply making a video that shows off a new game mechanic or ship, CCP's Quantum Rise trailer is presented as 'in-world' breaking news footage from "The Scope" -- New Eden's galactic news network.Where the Empyrean Age trailer showed viewers a suicide attack on a peace summit that triggered war between the Caldari and Gallente races, the newest Quantum Rise video depicts an escalation of hostilities in New Eden. The Gallente Federation now finds itself mired in a two-front war, fending off the nationalistic Caldari while having to face the golden Amarr fleets as well, as seen in the footage. The Quantum Rise trailer is just the newest one shown on the CCP Games YouTube page. For those looking for higher res downloads, the Quantum Rise trailer should be up on the official site's video section soon. But for now, you can see video footage from 'The Scope' as the conflict unfolds below the cut.

  • EVE Online film 'Clear Skies' wins at Machinima Filmfest 2008

It seems like it wasn't so long ago when Massively reviewed the EVE Online machinima "Clear Skies", an imaginative blend of EVE's backstory with Half-Life 2 character models and sets. We recently mentioned that Clear Skies had been nominated for consideration at the Machinima Filmfest 2008, but have gotten word that it won a Mackie award for Best Long Format film this past weekend. Massively got a hold of Clear Skies creator Ian Chisholm today, who shared with us his reaction to having won the Mackie award. He quipped, "I was sort of wondering if they had made a mistake -- it's really nice to get that sort of recognition when all I set out to do was have some fun with my friends and have a creative outlet." But more than anything, Chisholm is pleased with the overwhelmingly positive response he's gotten from the EVE community itself. "I never set out to do any of this, so it's completely organic... it's just a fantastic thing to be able to do, to reach out and make all these thousands of people's day go with a bit of a smile when they watch the film" he said.

On the eve of Fallout 3's launch, Bethesda VP of Public Relations and Marketing Pete Hines has sent an email to our sister site Big Download, Shacknews and presumably others. Game Videos no longer has the trailers, although other gameplay clips still remain; as of this writing, Game Trailers still has the trailers online. Here's the full email:In connection with ESRB's advertising guidelines, you are instructed to remove immediately any of our Fallout 3 trailers from your website, pending further notice. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We're as confused as you are. We've reached out to Bethesda for more information.

Fresh off of winning an Oswald award at BlizzCon 2008, the filmmakers at Slashdance have released a trailer for their next movie, Redshift: Pursuit. Pursuit will be a sequel to their first movie, Redshift. (The award-winning Interlude was a prequel to the same movie.)The premise appears to be revolve around the conflict that arises when the clairvoyant Aislynn (a former Night Elf turned Undead) foresees the death of another Night Elf in her visions and tries to prevent it, putting her at odds with her fellow Horde. That's all the trailer really hints at, but it's a gripping teaser for what's to come. On their website, Slashdance says that the full film version of Pursuit will be released on October 31. We'll keep a look out for it.[Via Vimeo]If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.

  • Blizzcon 2008 DVD production panel reveals WoW tidbits

Here's a secret gem from BlizzCon from our sister site, Big Download: The DVD Production panel. The DVD Production team, despite the name, actually oversees most of the video produced by or at Blizzard. That means that they had a hand in the South Park episode "Make Love Not Warcraft," as well as the "What's your Game" and "Lawgiver" commercials. They also work on the gameplay trailers from World of Warcraft, and walked us through the creative process for the patch 2.1 Black Temple trailer, revealing some interesting lore behind Akama's betrayal. Finally, they revealed that they were the force behind the Wrath Gate cinematic. It's no wonder they were able to make such an epic cut scene though: One of their team members was a member of Rufus Cubed Productions, the creations of the epic machinima Return. There's some other nice information from the panel, including the real identity of the villain from "Make Love Not Warcraft" and a preview of the lore of Diablo 3. Be sure to go check it out at Big Download!

  • Jumpgate Evolution trailer depicts grand struggle

    08.23.2008

Fans of the sci-fi MMO genre have been looking for a game that fills a niche in the industry, somewhere between the complexity of EVE Online and the dynamic 'hands-on' starship piloting of many PC and console games. NetDevil might just be creating the title these gamers have been waiting for -- Jumpgate Evolution. Jumpgate Evolution's Games Convention 2008 cinematic trailer is narrated to a series of fleet engagements and dogfights in space. The footage sets the tone for the game's backstory with its conflicts between civilizations, and the struggle for survival against ancient and powerful beings who would 'extinguish their light forever.' You can check out the video after the cut.

  • Cute and scary glimpses from Florensia Online

Check out the above glimpse from Florensia Online's vast dungeons, dark secrets, horrifying monsters, sinister nightmares, and infernal bosses. Oh no, what will you do? Combine efforts and lead your band of cute and merry anime-inspired adventurers to victory of course! If you want to dare the impossible join the open beta that is underway. In all seriousness, the Japanese import is free-to-play and will sustain development from a micro transaction "itemshop" model. Florensia does feature a somewhat unique leveling twist. The dual battle system gives players the freedom to choose if they want to level at land or at sea, as well as the ability to specialize in both areas of combat. The sea system is more difficult to master, but the catch is that sea based gameplay is unavoidable if you want to visit other islands. There's a new dungeon preview on the official website along with other news updates. If you thought the trailer was a bit cheesy and left you lingering for something like some ship action, there are several other official clips available. If you're looking to download a copy and check it out, our sister site Big Download has the files waiting for you!

The year is 2146. Global warming has long since made ice and snow only a distant memory, something seen in the history books but not really understood. That all changed with the discovery of the Warp Gate, that opened up the galaxy to exploration. And everywhere we went, there was snow. And where there was snow, there was Project Powder to shred it.Project Powder, developed by free casual MMO portal Outspark, isn't the first extreme sports MMO we've seen, but it's the coolest. Combat? Duel against other players on the slopes! Crafting? Make snowballs! Exploration? There's a whole world out there ready to be explored -- and shredded. Okay, maybe it's not the deepest MMO out there, but if you just want to get together with your friends, form a team, level up and compete against the top 'boarders in the galaxy, Project Powder may be just the game for you. Closed beta begins June 24th, and you can sign up on the Project Powder home page. Get to level 5 in closed beta, and you get a special hoodie that you can wear in open beta that shows just how cool the open beta newbies will never be.Check out the video after the break, courtesy of GameTrailers.

In addition to yesterday's cinematic trailer, which gave us a fantastic look at the game's three combatants from a galaxy far, far away, a plethora of gameplay videos for Soul Calibur IV also recently made their way into GameTrailer's expansive archives. Other than the addition of a few new characters and a graphical overhaul, it's tough to pick out any changes that Namco Bandai has incorporated into their armament-rich fighting franchise -- we suppose the Soul Calibur series has adopted the official mantra of the fighting genre: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The above preview and those embedded after the jump certainly don't look broken, and have imbued in us an insatiable hunger for well-timed counters, guard impacts, and incredibly overdramatic dialogue.

Acclaimed City of Heroes fan video maker Michelle, otherwise known as Samuraiko, has released her second Issue 12: Midnight Hour video, timed to coincide with the issue's launch to the live servers yesterday. Unlike the first (completely speculative) piece, this one contains plenty of footage from the actual issue, including material from Cimerora, the Midnighter Club and the Imperious Task Force.Warning: there are some very brief potential spoilers in this video. Blink and you'll miss them, but don't say you weren' t warned!Samuraiko's highly regarded in the CoX community as one of the best fan video makers out there, with standards comparable to those set by the official CoX videos. She's produced her own trailers and promotional films for CoX since Issue 11, including a documentary of Manticore and Sister Psyche's chaotic wedding. In her latest offering she also does a little voice acting, giving the reaction that most of us give when we step on to Cimerora' s shores for the first time.'Midnight's Secrets' is available in high quality format on the Samuraiko Productions web site. The YouTube version follows after the break.

    05.16.2008

Our friends over at Mmorpg.com have revealed an exclusive new video for CoX Issue 12: Midnight Hour! The video tells the story of the Midnight Squad, the secret cabal of magicians and scholars whose home - the Midnighter Club - we recently visited here at Massively. The Midnighters are only now building their numbers back up again, after the invading Rikti dealt them heavy losses. The video's narrator, Montague Castanella, is the contact who gives out the Midnighter mission arc to heroes, ultimately giving them access to the Club. Percy Winkley, besides being a specialist in abductions from the receiving end, is also well versed in the various origins of power and will help heroes gain a greater understanding of theirs. The other Midnighter mentioned in the video, Ashley McKnight, will be found at the Cap Au Diable University over in the Rogue Isles. She serves as a villain contact, also giving eventual access to the club. As for the shadowy gentleman at the end, he can be found in Sharkhead Isle and goes by the name of Darrin Wade. His missions are strictly villain-only, and have one of the best (and most truly villainous) finales of any arc to date.Watch the video here! Face down the forces of evil! Give good a quick jab to the jaw! Massively has all the CoX Issue 12 news you can handle. Make sure to check it out!

  • Vader and Yoda battling in new Soul Calibur IV trailer

    04.18.2008

After watching the above, almost uncomfortably rad trailer for Soul Calibur IV, we're ready to make a proclamation. If you can watch Darth Vader and Yoda killing dudes and you don't melt, even just a little, then your heart is made of iron and we're revoking your geek badge. Please, just go. Leave your Cheeto-dust-stained Battlestar Galactica T-shirt with Beverly on your way out.For those of your still with us, isn't it a little unnerving to see someone hit with a lightsaber and not be turned into person fractions? We hope the game includes a "Real World" mode where the fight begins, Yoda casually mentions that he's a Jedi and Mitsurugi puts his own sword in his belly just to save time. ...And yes, we just referred to a world including Yoda and Mitsurugi as the "real world." Please keep the snickers to a minimum.

Whether or not you're into documentaries, (for the record, we think they can be very interesting) if you've played massively multiplayer online games in any form then Second Skin by Pure West Documentaries is a movie you'll want to check out at some point. The trailer is going to be debuting tomorrow, Tuesday, January 29th 2008 according to Victor Pineiro; the writer and producer of the film. The movie itself says it will cover guilds, virtual couples, virtual world addiction, gold farming, virtual identities, disabled massively gaming, guild leadership, cybersex and consult some experts from the industry itself. That's a lot of subjects to cover in one movie, but then again when your movie looks closely at how these worlds affect the lives of the people that play them -- well, then there is a lot to talk about. Don't forget to check back tomorrow for the world debut of Second Skin's trailer.

Yee-haw, we're rounding up some wild game trailers today! Courtesy of an even bigger trailer rodeo over on Dengeki, we've got new videos of some of the most interesting, most anticipated, and most not-in-either-of-those-categories games coming out of Japan. You'll recognize Fist of the North Star above, one of our recent infatuations. It continues to look amazingly weird in motion, and further fuels our desires to tap on-screen indicators violently. After the break, we've got trailers for the sweetly nostalgic adventure game Afterschool Boy, the, uh, other adventure game Lux-Pain, and the other other adventure game Mushishi. Joining them are the SRPG remake Summon Night and the sweat-mopping simulator Duel Love. We kind of forgot to keep the cowboy talk thing going throughout the whole post. Uh, these trailers are rootin'-tootin'? No?

The company is offering two videos with some of the first in-game footage we've seen of your initial entry into the game world. The fine folks at Huxley-Evolved have been making sure that they get out to all the fans that want an in on this unique game concept. The first kicks off your adventure in the world of Huxley, while the second (below the cut) sees an avatar exploring one of the game world's cities. Fascinating viewing. Thanks, Stephen!

Have you ever wondered what our super heroes would sound like if they spoke more like we do in game? Well, Kill Ten Rats has reminded us about an oldy-but-goody remix of the City of Villains trailer, leet-speak style. I'm not sure how I missed this one, but I am sure those of you who play CoX will get a kick out of this. Heck, those of you who have ever grouped in an instance in an MMO will get a kick out of this. Enjoy.[via Kill Ten Rats]

  • New Assassin's Creed trailer is delightful

We can't speak to the quality of Assassin's Creed at all. When it's (supposedly) released in November, we have no idea if you'll love it, if you'll hate it or if you'll be indifferent. What we can say with plenty of confidence though is that the person in charge of making trailers for Assassin's Creed should win a major award. We're not sure what award you get for making really short movies that make viewers want to flip out and stab people, but they should win that one. We're sure you all remember this one, now we have this rad new offering. We don't even want to tell you much about it, for fear of ruining it. Just know that the Knights Templar are involved. ... As is a bloody feather. OK, seriously, that's it. You need to go watch.

It's been awhile since we last heard anything about Sony's spelling-challenged safari romp, Afrika. When it was first unveiled, the consensus was, graphically, the title looked great, but no one really knew what the point of the game was. This video will do nothing to better explain the game's gameplay, unless it involves taking voyeuristic photos of meercats and giraffes mating in their natural habitat or trying to run over endangered animals.Who knows, though, we're sure there's a huge market for that kinda thing somewhere.

A new trailer for the upcoming Japanese RPG White Knight Story was shown at the PlayStation Premiere event last week and is now available for download on the Japanese PSN Store. Clocking in at 3 minutes, the trailer shows plenty of cutscene action in the same gorgeous art style as we have seen before. We're really excited about Level 5's "big scale fantasy" and look forward to playing it at the Tokyo Game Show. In the meantime, however, watching this video over and over will quell our pangs of withdrawal. Hopefully. So switch over to your Japanese account and get downloading.
