  • Capcom to patch Bionic Commando Rearmed with Trophies, thanks 'brutal' community feedback

Well, Capcom has proven that if you complain loudly enough, it will listen. After deciding against a Trophy patch for Bionic Commando Rearmed, fans offered "brutally constructive" feedback that made the company reconsider. In addition to Trophies, the upcoming patch will offer a few new features, such as a new "Normal" difficulty that grants players unlimited lives and the ability to respawn at the last checkpoint. The Super Joe Machine Gun has also been fixed, and the weapon will become more powerful across all difficulties. The patch is currently in QA and "should be available real soon." The patch should hopefully end the "Crapcom" comments that plague PS3 sites ever since DMC4 went multiplatform.

  • How Natsume picked up Afrika (bonus: trophies confirmed!)

When Sony first revealed Afrika, it was a marquee first-party PS3 title used to show off the power of the system. Three years later, it's finally being released in North America, by tiny third-party publisher Natsume, who is more familiar with Harvest Moon and handheld games than anything shown off at a press conference. How did this happen?According to Graham Markay, Vice President of Operations for Natsume, Finny the Fish was instrumental in the deal. No, really. Sony's Uo: Nanatsu no Mizu to Densetsu no Nushi was localized on the PS2 by Natsume as Finny the Fish & the Seven Waters. "We have a relationship with Sony Japan," Markay explained. "You might remember Finny the Fish? That game was done by Sony Japan. So we licensed that game from them. We have a little bit of a history with their licensing department in Japan." Because of this relationship, Natsume was one of the companies contacted by Sony Japan about the game. Markay said that Afrika "really fits with the Natsume theme" because it's non-violent and nature-oriented. We might add that it fits with the Natsume theme so well that the company is simultaneously releasing a different safari photography game on the Wii.In case you need an extra incentive to buy Afrika, Markay confirmed that "there is going to be a trophy system, which wasn't in the Asian release or Japanese release."%Gallery-64358%

  • Sony's Lempel: 'You're not going to see trophies on the PSP'

    by

With Sony's Trophy system coming up on its one-year anniversary this month, we were eager to learn how Sony could enhance the service, leveraging the PlayStation brand and distancing itself from the Xbox 360's Achievements system. So, during E3 last week, we asked Eric Lempel – Director of PlayStation Network Operations – when Trophies would make their way to the PSP, newly invigorated by the PSP Go announcement. Lempel said, bluntly, "You're not going to see Trophies on the PSP." Now, before you curse his name, hear him out, okay? Lempel explains that "there are a few reasons" you won't see Trophies on PSP and, chief amongst them is "keeping it secure." See ... the PSP has been hacked. A lot. Like, a lot a lot. Lempel says that "if people can artificially inflate their rankings and amounts of Trophies" via the PSP on a shared PlayStation-wide Trophy system then it "kills the whole [Trophy] system," PS3 included. So "keeping it secure, keeping it fair" is the best solution – but that means no Trophies on PSP.And, since the PSP has that same promised 10-year life cycle (as evidenced most recently by the PSP Go) it'll be some time before we get an entirely new (and ostensibly secure) PSP platform upon which a functioning Trophy system might be grafted. See you in 2015!

So, we were right! When we reported about Trophies and DLC for The Last Guy a few weeks ago, we just knew we'd be seeing the new content come our way. According to the PlayStation Blog, there are 15 Trophies to collect in tomorrow's free patch. In addition to the patch, the first DLC for this PSN title will arrive next month. It will include eight more Trophies and three new stages. A price wasn't set, but we assume it won't be much. It definitely won't be free, either (because the Japanese one certainly isn't). It looks like Himalayan zombies are back, folks!

  • Big Surf Island adds 15 events, 10 freeburn challenges to Burnout Paradise

With Cops and Robbers out of the way, Criterion is free to finish up the last of the announced Burnout Paradise premium DLC -- Big Surf Island. This is the first new locale to be introduced into the ever-evolving racing game, and it'll add 15 events and 10 online freeburn challenges to the game. Criterion is promising big air for the expansion, and completionists will want to look for all 45 Billboards hidden on the island. For comparison purposes, the original game featured 120 events and 350 freeburn challenges. These early details come courtesy of an early look at the DLC's Trophies. (Check out the new Trophies after the break.) One particularly intriguing achievement involves getting a whopping 4.5 seconds of air time in a single jump. Who needs Burnout Planes when you have massive jumps like that? Our very own Randy Nelson got some hands-on time with the DLC pack, but he can't report on the details quite yet. Expect a full preview on May 28.%Gallery-38136%
