  • Pain DLC delayed a week, trophies toned down

Like a hot nurse kissing a mime, there's something good and something bad in today's update from the always-busy developers behind the PS3's bone-breaking simulator, Pain. First, the bad news: the downloadable "Uncle Jimmy's Fun Park" level, originally planned for release tomorrow, has been delayed, and is currently targeted for release on the ominous date of Sept. 11.Why was it delayed? Well that's the good news: the development team has been spending its time scaling back the difficulty of the somewhat ridiculous trophies it announced last month. Seems testers didn't have too much fun grinding their way through the "one billion points" trophy, among others. The new trophy list, which is copied below the break, is also set to be downloadable on Sept. 11

  • PAIN Amusement Park delayed, Trophies retooled to be easier

Trophy and PAIN addicts are going to have to wait a little bit longer. The Amusement Park expansion, originally due tomorrow, has been delayed to some time later this month. The reason behind the delay? Well, one part comes from the developers changing Trophy requirements. When the original Trophy list was unveiled, many complained that they were too challenging, and could only be accomplished by those that played the game constantly. "They began to resemble the tedious level grinds in MMOs and not the spoils for being good," the PAIN blog admits. "So we thought rather than making people play PAIN for the trophies, it might be a better idea to let people play PAIN because it's REALLY FUN and let the earned trophies come from that experience."The revised Trophy list is available, after the cut.[Thanks, James C.!]

  • PS3 Fanboy philosophizes on Trophy collecting

    by

Kylie Prymus, PS3 Fanboy's resident Rene Descartes, recently polished up his Trophy collection with wax philosophical. In one of his most insightful columns to date, Prymus turns his keen analytical eye onto the recently added PS3 Trophy system, examining how the highly enviable awards (and the fairly similar Xbox 360 Achievements) are affecting the way we play and purchase modern video games. Do easily unlocked Trophies and Achievements influence the sales success of mediocre titles? Are we playing our games differently, focusing on tedious tasks in a seemingly endless carrot chase? Do large Gamerscores and impressive Trophy collections make us more popular with the opposite sex?We don't need no stinking philosophers to find the answer to that last one -- of course they do. For everything else though, check out Prymus' article -- we guarantee it'll be the brainiest game-related essay you'll read all day.

  • WipEout HD has Platinum Trophy, should be over $30

Although WipEout HD is a PSN download-exclusive game, it looks like it may be priced like a standard retail game. A snapshot of the game's Trophy screen shows a Platinum Trophy for the game -- one that's reserved for full retail games. Shorter, cheaper games on PSN, such as PixelJunk Eden, Super Stardust HD and PAIN, do not feature a Platinum Medal. However, full-priced retail games, such as Uncharted, do grant Platinum Trophies. With this evidence, we can postulate that WipEout HD will be available for download for at least $30 (the cost of Warhawk, downloaded from the PLAYSTATION Store). SCEA still hasn't announced an official release date or price for the game, but rest assured that the news is forthcoming.[Via NeoGAF] Don't blink! • Our Trophy Portal gets massive update again

We've been quietly updating our Trophy Portal almost every day. There are so many games that are getting Trophy support, and we thought you'd be quite annoyed if we told you about every single one of them on the front page. With the help of PS3Trophies.org again, we can confirm that a significant number of third party developers are adding Trophies to their games. Here's a list of just a few The Wheelman The Godfather II Mirror's Edge Alpha Protocol Bayonetta Sonic Unleashed Alone in the Dark (Update: Alone in the Dark does not contain Trophies.) Remember to check our constantly-updated Trophy Portal to see what new additions there are. Also, note that our Trophy Guides for PixelJunk Eden and Uncharted are just a few days away.

  • Come see Trophies unlocked in LittleBigPlanet

It's been known for some time now that LittleBigPlanet will have Trophies, but we haven't actually seen them yet ... well, until now that is. The video after the cut witnesses the reluctant unlocking of four Bronze Trophies and a Silver one during a gameplay demonstration at Leipzig. For all the unduly converted Trophy junkies out there, these Trophies are titled: Forager, Sticky Fingers, Treasure Hunter, 2x Multiplier, and Booty Master (this is the silver one). Personally, Booty Master takes the trophy naming prize for us. Is there a Trophy we can give to a Trophy? Anyway, knowing that the game is due out by the end of October, this little bit of info comes as a pleasant early taste of a fresh new accolade hunt that's soon to come. Check out the video, after the cut. [Thanks, Farmer_Steve!]

  • SingStar Volume 2 coming to America, features Trophies

Just like Europe, SingStar will be getting an expansion disc here in the States. The disc offers the same SingStar experience as the original, but offers a different track list featuring 30 new songs. For newcomers to the series, this is a different way of getting the full PS3 SingStar experience. However, series regulars will have to swap discs if they want to have all the songs from Volume 1 and Volume 2: there's no way of ripping content from one disc to another, a la Rock Band.SingStar is meant to be a constantly evolving platform, and we're assuming any new features added to America's Volume 2 disc will be applied via patch across all other SingStar games. For example, the US version of SingStar received a patch that contained all the new features added to the European Volume 2 game. One of the most exciting features for the upcoming expansion is the addition of Trophies -- exactly how that will work in conjunction with the SingStore is anyone's guess. For this week's SingStore update, and the full track listing for Volume 2, visit IGN.[Thanks, Kspraydad!]

  • More Warhawk v1.5 update details

    08.11.2008

Over at PlayStation.Blog, the game director of Warhawk, Dylan Jobe, lets us in on the details surrounding the important v1.5 update which will bring trophies. Last week, we already provided you with a list of trophies and a release date of August 27th for Europe -- it now appears the date will apply to the US as well. Other updates will include: Custom in-game music confirmed once again. Training tutorials -- 4 offline tutorials for "newbies" to the game, focusing "on the core principals of each of the 3 modes of gameplay: Infantry, Ground Vehicles and Aircraft." The fourth tutorial, Flight Practice, will have players destroying as many attack drones as possible in 3 minutes. Completing these tutorials will result in a trophy. Clan leaders will now have the ability to retract a clan invite. 20 new paint schemes and 50 new insignias. Participants of the GGL tournament will receive a in-game GGL-Ceremonial Knife. The winners of the tournament will receive a Champion's Blade. Green servers will be designated for rookies only. Jobe hints at a jetpack for the next Booster Pack with a promise of more information to come at Leipzig. Some exploits and issues were fixed. Read Jobe's post for more details. • Looks like Blitz: The League II will also support Trophies

It seems like almost every game is getting Trophy support these days. Pretty soon, it won't be long until Trophies become standard across all games (and they'll stop being special!). A sharp reader noticed an image on IGN for the upcoming Blitz game that features the now-familiar icon with the next: "You have earned a trophy." Considering it's a multiplatform title, it's likely that the Trophies in Blitz will be identical to the Xbox 360's Achievements.[Thanks, TheDon23!]
