LG is one of the leaders in OLED display technology, but it’s mostly been limited to TVs for the living room thus far. As part of its slate of CES 2021 announcements, though, the company just announced the LG UltraFine OLED Pro monitor, a 31.5-inch 4K screen that features individual dimming for all 8 million pixels. As you’d expect for a high-end monitor, the UltraFine OLED Pro is loaded with connections including USB-C, three standard USB ports, two DisplayPort connections and HDMI.

LG is fond of unveiling monitors before CES, but its newest batch may be particularly interesting if you value every inch of free space on your desk. The headlining monitor for 2020 is the UltraFine Ergo (32UN880), a 32-inch 4K screen that floats on a post that clamps to your desk. It's like you're buying a VESA mount at the same time, in other words. This helps make room, of course, but it also lets the monitor swivel up to 280 degrees horizontally and tilt 25 degrees vertically. You can position the display right where you need it for your creative workflow, or spin it around to show a project to a colleague.

Just because Apple has stopped selling the UltraFine 5K doesn't mean it has given up on LG's monitors altogether. In sync with the launch of the eight-core MacBook Pro, the company has quietly started selling a new version of LG's UltraFine 4K. The new version is lower resolution (it's 'just' 3,840 x 2,160), but it jumps from 21.5 inches to 23.7 inches and now includes two Thunderbolt 3 ports to let you daisy chain devices.

It's not a good sign when your pricey new 5K monitor is affected by proximity to your wireless router. After reports of the monitor becoming unstable, if not unusable, when in close company -- under two meters away -- to WiFi routers. It's a difficult issue to resolve if your router is already close to your internet pipeline. LG now tells Engadget that signal interference is to blame, when said routers are placed near to the rear of the display.

Apple has tacitly acknowledged that prospective MacBook Pro buyers remain skittish about having to buy dongles just to keep using their favorite peripherals. The company is extending its sale on USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 peripherals through March 31st, giving you another three months to pick up adapters and cables at a discount. As before, some of the bargains are better than others -- the USB-C to USB-A adapter is down from $19 to $9, for instance, while SanDisk's USB-C SD card reader is down from $49 to $29. This still won't be completely satisfying if you absolutely need dongles to attach your devices (a USB-A adapter in MacBook boxes would be great, Apple), but there's a bit less pressure to buy them before you're ready.
