Yes, you read that correctly. About 16 years after the last movie in the series, Warner Bros. has confirmed work on a fourth movie in The Matrix universe. And it doesn't appear to be a spinoff -- Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will star in the picture. Only one of the Wachowski sisters (Lana) is involved, but she'll direct, co-write and co-produce.

The Matrix is coming back to theaters to (belatedly) mark its 20th anniversary, and you might have a reason to watch even if you're not overwhelmed with nostalgia. The sci-fi classic will start a one-week run on August 30th at AMC's Dolby Cinemas across the US in its fully modernized form, complete with a Dolby Vision picture and Dolby Atmos audio. You've had access to those at home, but this is the first time you can experience the movie that way on the big screen -- those bullet-dodging scenes should be that much more immersive.

We're still wondering what happened to Wolfgang on head-scratcher sci-fi series Sense8, and it sounds like our answers might arrive sooner than expected. Netflix today announced that the wrap-up movie for the Wachowskis-created show will premiere on June 8th. If you'll remember, the series was unceremoniously cancelled last June.

Sense8 is one of the more creatively interesting shows available on just about any streaming service. The Wachowski-made Netflix show, now in its second and final season, tells the story of eight people with special powers using very human themes: love, belonging, gender, and (of course) sex. It's that last bit there that interests internet porn site xHamster. The company sent an open letter to Lilly and Lana Wachowski offering to pick up the tab for an "actual revival of the series."

When Netflix canceled its Wachowski-helmed, conspiracy-fueled original series Sense8 earlier this year fans weren't certain what would happen following season two's cliffhanger. Well, the streaming service apparently heard their cries (read: tweets and reddit posts). As such, the streaming service is throwing them a bone in the form of a two hour finale episode. The rub is that it isn't expected until sometime next year, according to a Facebook post written by Lana Wachowski.

Netflix cancels 'Sense8' after two seasons

Just a week after Netflix pulled the plug on its Baz Luhrmann-produced musical series The Get Down, the streaming service announced the cancellation of the Wachowski's sci-fi series Sense8. The show revolved around a group of strangers with an unusual connection, and as a result required costly around the world filming. According to Deadline, its lengthy development process meant that the stars' options for a third season had lapsed by the time season two launched, and even though Netflix had reached out to negotiate new contracts it ended up canceling the show anyway.

The Wachowski siblings' trippy Netflix series Sense8 may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the show clearly has some fans: as part of a birthday celebration, Netflix has revealed that it's bringing Sense8 back for a second season. While there are no details as to when the sci-fi series is making its return, this is heartening news if you've been sitting on pins and needles for the past two months. Netflix is normally quick to announce additional seasons when it has a hit on its hands, so there was a real concern that this out-there programming (which hasn't always been a critical darling) would quietly get the axe. Whatever the reasons behind the delay, you can set your mind at ease... at least, for now.

If you're all out of Daredevil, there's another geeky show coming to Netflix soon: Sense8, a new sci-fi series from the Wachowskis and Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski. We've been excited about the project since it was announced, but now we've finally got a clear idea of what it's about with a new trailer. And boy, does it look crazy. The series centers on eight strangers from all around the world who become mentally and emotionally linked. Basically, they're all able to experience what the others are feeling -- and yes, that leads to plenty of drama. The trailer shows off some Matrix-like action, but this being a Wachowski joint, we also expect it to explore plenty of metaphysical questions as well. Netflix is debuting all 12 episodes of the show on June 5 as a part of its packed summer release schedule, so start clearing out your weekends already.

Continuing its quest to sate subscribers' appetites with a flow of original content, Netflix has announced a new original series, Sense8. Due in late 2014, it's being developed by the Wachowskis of The Matrix, V for Vendetta, Cloud Atlas and Speed Racer fame, as well as J. Michael Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5. Details are thin, but the press release promises a "gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted" with a ten episode run for its first season. As it did with House of Cards, Arrested Development and other productions, Netflix is relying heavily on data from viewers to decide which programs to support. According to chief content officer Ted Sarandos, "Andy and Lana Wachowski and Joe Straczynski are among the most imaginative writers and gifted visual storytellers of our time," whose creations are very frequently viewed on the service. According to the creators themselves, they've sought to work together for a decade, and this idea started from a late night conversation about "the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us." If that's not enough for now, then there are a few more details and quotes in the press release, which is included after the break.
