Although Dead Rising was the biggest punching bag in the world of gaming webcomic last week, the folks at Hooked on Polygon were picked as having the best joke by a wide margin (three times more popular than its closest competitor). Second and third place went to Penny Arcade's introduction the Armageddon story arc and Ctrl+Alt+Del's Servbot angle. Thanks to everyone who voted, and thanks for letting us indulge while we experiment with different formats. We'll return with the regular format next week, so be sure to let us know of any gaming webcomics you stumble upon this week (and last week) that tickled your fancy.

We have gotten some great submissions for this week's webcomic wrapup (especially The Day It Snowed ... yay faulty science), but we're going to try something new this week. All submissions and comics from this week and next will be feature in the next installment, but this time we're going to talk zombies. In case you haven't noticed (and how? We haven't shut up about the frickin' game ...), Dead Rising was released this week. While you may find our incessant coverage annoying, webcomic artists have shared in this obsession, with Ctrl+Alt+Del dedicating an entire week of comics, and Penny Arcade starting an ongoing story arc about it. WIth so many Dead Rising jokes out there, we thought we'd ask you to tell us, Who nailed the Dead Rising joke? The Jessica Angle The headshot angle The weapons angle The "I did this last week!" angle The zombie sympathy angle The "Frank as antagonist" angle The Servbot angle The "I really hate you, Otis" angle Another "Psycho Frank" angle The Stevenote angle No one really got it [Image from Gamasutra's Stubbs postmortem]

If a Reggie knocked on your door, would you let him in? Hooked on Polygon's "Mechanimal Animal" took the top spot as favorite gaming webcomic this week. A lot of comments loathed this strip for portraying the Wiimote in a negative light -- having to swing the controller wildly to move the characters. To those people we say relax -- it's just a comic!Second place goes to Penny Arcade (they're not first!? It's a conspiracy!) and third to Extra Life. Thanks to everyone who voted, and be sure to let us know of any game-related webcomics you stumble upon this week!

Sorry for the lateness on the response; blame it on moving into a new apartment, a faulty router, and a power outage. All griping aside, the winner has more or less been set from the start: Penny Arcade, you are the most popular gaming webcomic this week. If only the game Loco Roco was as popular as the comic satiring it ...Second and third, yet again, is a veritable tie between Dueling Analogs and Fanboys. Thanks to everyone who voted, and be sure to let us know (via comments below) of any game-related webcomics you stumble upon this week.

The competition was squashed today when Gordon Frohman locked everyone behind an indestructible super door ... then proceeded to throw trucks around with a gravity gun. Concerned took first place with more votes than all other webcomics combined (factoring out the ever-popular "none of the above," down to 7% this week). Second place went to VG Cats and third place was just edged out by Hooked On Polygons (read: by two votes as of this writing) over Digital Unrest ... close enough to be a tie in my book. Thanks to everyone who voted, and be sure to let us know (via comments, preferably) of any game-relate comics you stumble upon this week![update 1: So no one has to decrypt the messages *wink,* you can click on the "read" link below or the picture of the winner to the right to view the number one choice.]

Most of the "none-of-the-above" voters from the last few weeks seem to have found their fix by moving their votes to Penny Arcade, who took an astounding lead over the other 8 comics to become the fan-favorite webcomic of the week. Second place went to Extra Life followed by Concerned.Even after filling the poll to the brim, we still missed a few good gaming comics: Press Start to Play, Tea-and-Crumpets, and FoxTrot. The first two slipped my mind, and the latter I did not even think to look -- despite their history of gaming references. Sorry. If you find a comic and you think we might miss it, just let us know. Trust us, it's a lot more fun that mocking us post-publication.Okay, maybe not, but let's just pretend.

In their sophomore appearance on the wrapup (correct me if I'm wrong), F@NB0Y$ took the top spot for adding style to an old and overused RPG cliché -- congratulations on becoming the fan-favorite webcomic of the week. Second place went to the very beautiful, very extreme, very new Hooked on Polygons, and perennial favorites VG Cats stole third place (ba-dum-dum-pish).A general consensus from commentors was that we robbed Ctrl+Alt+Del and Penny Arcade of spots up there that would have made the list deserving. However, one must remember that this is for game-related comic strips, not comics that perpetually discuss games, and PA did not tackle gaming at all this week. The DS Lite mockup done by Tim Buckley had already been given its due the day prior. We're not forgetting about the big guns in game comics, but we'd rather keep to the rules and throw some newer artists in the mix  who would not normally get their work out. As Tim Buckley put it, "it's all in good fun."So thanks to everyone who voted, regardless of your choice, and be sure to let us know of any game-related webcomics you stumble upon this week!

To err is human, but to leave off last week's Dueling Analogs is inhumane. I laughed so hard at it on Friday, and then Saturday completely screwed up when compiling the poll -- apologies to Steve Napierski and everyone else haunted by that damn dog.The profanity-laden Little Gamers took a commanding lead to become the most popular webcomic of the week. Second place went to the blues-laden Penny Arcade and third place was stolen by Jenova's witnesses. Thanks to everyone who voted and be sure to let us know (preferably via comments below) of any game-related webcomics you stumble upon this week!

This week, the results were so close (within 0.21 percent of one another) that we chose to elect two winners: Dueling Analogs and VG Cats. Dueling Analogs is the true winner, ahead by six votes, and deserves recognition for finding a way to make the phrase "bukakke!" adorable. VG Cats received some major kudos from Maxis regarding their Spore-inspired strip, "Wright to Life." The developers of the game actually remade the VG Cats comic, but replaced (with near perfection) all the cartoon renditions with characters made in the game. It is a testament to Will Wright's genius that the game allows you to create life with an ass above his head. Third place goes to Ctrl+Alt+Del's lashing of Uwe Boll. Thanks to everyone who voted, and be sure to let us know (preferably in the comments below) of any game-related webcomics you stumble upon this week!Read - Dueling AnalogsRead - VG Cats (pre-Maxis)Read - VG Cats (post-Maxis)

With a sudden burst of popularity, Press Start to Play's depiction of a shattered-dreams Koopa took first place as the most popular webcomic last week. Second place went to the other Mario joke, courtesy of Dueling Analogs, and third place was claimed by Concerned. There was discussion over the weekend as to splitting up newer webcomics from older, more popular comics (Penny Arcade, VG Cats, etc.). There is no way to standardize classification of what webcomics fall into what category; that said, we judge all webcomics based on (a) their relation to gaming and (b) their overall quality. These comics are usually found by scavenging the net / checking comics that we have previously used, but we need your help. Let us know -- preferably by leaving a comment below -- of any game-related webcomics you find over the weekend.

Sorry about being late on this, I had a gaseous expenditure of the cerebral cortex. It was a close week, but only one comic can win* -- Dueling Analogs and their topical strip about Link being voted "hottest male video game character" by Out magazine. 2nd place went to Concerned and 3rd is owned by Extra Life.Honorable mention (as we forgot to include them -- not that it seemed to matter) goes to Penny Arcade. Thanks to everyone who voted, and be sure to let us know (via comments below, preferably) of any game-related webcomics you stumble upon this week!* - unless in the unlikely situation that two winning comics win the exact same number of votes ... and that would be seriously cool.
