Facebook has banned Red Ice TV and Affirmative Right, two prominent white nationalist groups, from its social media platform. As reported by The Guardian, the bans come after the publication highlighted Facebook's resistance to take action against them, despite the fact that it said eight months ago it would no longer toleration white nationalist content.
Twitter is researching whether white supremacists should stay on its site
Twitter has a longstanding problem with white supremacists on its platform, but is banning those racists the best option? Not necessarily, if you ask the social network. The company told Motherboard that it's researching how white supremacists use Twitter, and whether it would be better to ban them outright or keep them on to de-radicalize them through "counter-speech and conversation." The company can't say much about the study as it's working with academics bound by non-disclosure deals, but the aim was to see "what actually works," according to Twitter's Vijaya Gadde.

Last week, Facebook announced it would ban white nationalism and separatism content, in addition to the white supremacy content it already prohibits. Today, we're getting a sense of which accounts that might include. According to BuzzFeed News, Facebook will ban groups, Pages and Instagram accounts associated with Faith Goldy, the Canadian Nationalist Front, Soldiers of Odin, Wolves of Odin, Kevin Goudreau and the Aryan Strikeforce.
House Judiciary panel to grill Google and Facebook on hate speech
On April 9th, a group of lawmakers will be squeezing Google and Facebook for answers on what they're doing to curb the spread of white nationalism and separatism on their platforms. The House Judiciary Committee has called in the tech giants for a hearing in response to online hate speech and racially motivated violence, including the New Zealand mosque shooting in March.

It will prohibit praise, support and representation of the ideologies, including specific phrases such as "I am a proud white nationalist" and "Immigration is tearing this country apart; white separatism is the only answer," as Motherboard first reported.
Slack removed 28 accounts with ties to hate groups
Today, Slack removed 28 group accounts because of their "clear affiliation with known hate groups." The news comes shortly after the media organization Unicorn Riot leaked Slack messages by the group Identity Evropa. Both the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center have classified Identity Evropa as a hate group, but Slack would not say if it was one of the groups removed today.
