Viiiiva heart rate monitor works with iOS and sport watches
When it comes to exercise, there are plenty of iOS apps that can do everything from tracking your running or biking speed to estimating calories burned, but when it comes to ensuring your workouts are worth it, no metric is more important than your heart rate. With that in mind, fitness tech company 4iiii Innovations is introducing the Viiiiva heart rate sensor, complete with iPhone compatibility. Engadget reports that the new device will hit 4iiii's online store and other retailers soon, with a price of US$79. Like other heart rate sensors, the Viiiiva is worn around the chest. The device works hand in hand with many popular iPhone apps, including MapMyFitness, Runtastic, Strava and Runkeeper, among others. The monitor is also compatible with many popular sport watches. 4iiii's press release announcement also notes an interesting feature it calls "Tip Tap," which can wake the iPhone's display by tapping on the Viiiiva itself.

So, you've been monitoring virtually every aspect of your athletic performance and tweeting it to the world, but not your heartrate or other basic performance factors? Apparently that just won't do, sport-o, so 4iiii has announced the chest-worn Viiiiva monitor. That'll let you add those indicators to sportwatches from the likes of Garmin or Timex through the ANT+ interface, or iPhones and iPods using Bluetooth. To lighten your training load, you can record the data with the Viiiiva alone, then sync it up later and record, plot and analyze your stats with a clutch of iOS fitness apps like Strava or Training Peaks. Sportiiiis: a heads up display for the athletically inclined
When we're not blogging, we're training for marathons, triathlons and the like, and we're constantly looking for ways to maximize our athletic performance. Ok, not really, but there are plenty of folks who are athletes looking for an extra edge, and 4iiii wants to give it to them with a heads up display called Sportiiiis. It's a small plastic boom that attaches to your shades and provides information to the wearer via multicolored LEDs programmed to your liking with its companion software. It can pull data from up to eight ANT+ devices at once to provide Ironmen with heart rate, speed, power, pace, and cadence information. There's also a built-in speaker that provides audible cues, and users can switch between visual and audio output by simply tapping the side of the boom.
