Ubi, meet Abba. Ubisoft is adding to its expansive slate of dance games, currently home to star power like Michael Jackson, The Black Eyed Peas and The Smurfs, with Abba: You Can Dance, out in Europe before Christmas. MCV has few details on this game except that it's on Wii, but having seen every other Ubisoft dance game, we can safely assume it'll feature glowing silhouette characters on-screen, whose movements you have to match with Wiimote motions. This time, we suppose, the silhouettes will be Swedish.

When SingStar Bollywood was released last year, we were quite serious about expressing our desire for ABBA SingStar. Now, our dreams have come true. MCV reports the iconic Swedish pop super group's Singstar will be available in Europe and the US, for the PS2 and PS3, this holiday.Sony's David Reeves says the company has a "window of exclusivity for ABBA disc-based titles on PlayStation until 2009." Hey now, if Jimmy Buffet is in Rock Band, why can't ABBA be? Come to think of it, we asked for ABBA there too. Mamma Mia!

So Guitar Hero gets Aerosmith, Rock Band gets The Who and SingStar gets ... ABBA? Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has just revealed SingStar ABBA. We don't know if we have to write any more to generate comments out of you."We are thrilled to be collaborating with ABBA to bring their tracks to SingStar this Christmas," said David Reeves, President, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. "The popularity of this iconic band continues year after year, and we know SingStar fans will be delighted to add this selection of classics tracks to their SingStar collection."Hopefully, fans that currently own SingStar will also be able to simply download tracks off the SingStore, instead of having to buy this retail disc. Y'know ... the SingStore? Sony, will you ever update it again?[Thanks, Kspraydad!]

Has it really been a quarter-century since the first compact disc was pressed, finally freeing us from the infernal routine of rewinding our mix tapes? Well sure enough, Philips was kind enough to inform us that its very first CD rolled off the production lines on August 17th, 1982, which history will forever remember -- perhaps unfortunately -- as a copy of ABBA's The Visitors. Nonetheless, this first widely-produced optical disc format would end up changing our lives forever, ushering in the era of lossless copies, easy music sharing, and an unwanted little friend we've come to know as DRM. Now with some 200 billion discs having been sold worldwide -- and probably twice as many distributed gratis by AOL in its dial-up heyday -- it would seem that the original shiny little platter is unquestionably in its golden years, with more convenient or capacious formats replacing it on almost every front. So Philips, the readers and editors of Engadget are proud to join you in saluting the revolutionary product you helped pioneer -- and also offer our condolences that things, um, haven't worked out quite so well for you in the transition to MP3. If you want to learn some of our (mostly embarrassing) first albums on disc, keep reading after the break...
