Netflix isn't just expanding its footprint in California. The streaming behemoth is planning to open a production hub in New Mexico by acquiring Albuquerque's ABQ Studios -- its first purchase of a production studio complex. It's making the deal (which is still in "final negotiations") in part due to incentives, which include up to $10 million in Local Economic Development Act funding from the state as well as a maximum of $4.5 million from Albuquerque.

Shia LaBeouf's anti-Trump livestreaming art piece in New York City was ignominiously shut down just a few weeks into its planned 4-year run, but it's getting a revival... albeit nowhere near its original home. LaBeouf and his artist partners have relaunched the anti-Donald Trump project, He Will Not Divide Us, at the Historic El Rey Theater in Albuquerque, New Mexico -- not exactly a convenient move if you'd been considering a visit to the original site. It's now much more likely that the livestream is your only way of seeing what all the fuss is about.

New Years Day was a sad one for cable customers served by Suddenlink and LIN TV, when their previous retransmission consent agreement expired, KXAN-TV (NBC) in Austin and KBIM-TV (CBS) in Albuquerque went dark. Three months later, they've come to terms and restored the channels to 30,000 affected customers. No word on what it took, but LIN TV claims all subscription services have to recognize "fair market value" of its stations. (Warning: PDF read link.)

For those feeling a little left out in Albuquerque, fret not, as Comcast has apparently blessed resident customers with three new high-definition channels. Reportedly, the carrier has added Animal Planet HD, SciFi HD, and TLC HD to its HD lineup with nary an announcement to go along. Still, there's only a few things finer than stumbling upon new high-def channels you didn't expect, right?[Thanks, Joe]
