Slowly but surely, the BeoVision 8 is creeping up into big screen territory. Bang & Olufsen's latest iteration, more casually known as the BV8-40, pulls those LCD TV edges out to 40-inches diagonally and features a lush 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution. Other specs include 500 nits of brightness, a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, six-millisecond response time, a digital TV tuner (for those in DVB regions) and a pretty swank set of internal speakers to boot. All we're told regarding pricing is that the MSRP is "attractive," but we get the feeling it's only sexy to those who aren't concerned with zeros and decimal places.[Via GadgetReview]

The downturn in the housing market is producing some interesting cross-marketing promotions. Well-heeled jet-setters moving into NYC's SoHo Renwick luxury condos when it opens in 2009 will be greeted by Bang & Olufsen gear, including a BeoVision 8 32-inch LCD TV, BeoSound 4 audio player and a BeoLab 4000 speaker. For sure, luxury space comes at a premium price in SoHo, so we can understand the desire of residents to own a compact system. And with the Renwick's all-glass exterior, the super-bright output of an LCD display also makes sense. Top it all off with B&O's famous design, and you've got a system that's a good fit for the target demographic. Sure, it's not the most bang-for-your-buck setup, but we don't really expect that Renwick residents will be counting pennies anyways -- prices for the units start at $975,000 for a one-bedroom unit. For that price, couldn't they toss in a larger 1080p set?

  • Bang & Olufsen's new BeoVision products bring high design, high prices

Bang & Olufsen returns with new BeoVision products, a BeoVision 8 32-inch LCD and two BeoVision 4 plasmas. The BeoVision 8's comes with an innovative design and integrated center channel speaker that enhances speech. Of course, this 720p LCD comes with an "entry level" MSRP of $3,950. The BeoVision 4 plasmas take PQ to the next step by including an Automatic Color Management system consisting of a mechanical arm monitoring the degradation of each individual plasma cell and adjusts color temperature automatically. This is on top of B&O's Automatic Picture Control, an optical sensor that monitors light conditions within the room and adjusts the HDTV as needed. The matching BeoLab 10 center channel speaker promises its triangular shape makes every seat in the house a sweet spot, but with plasma prices at $13,500 for a 65-inch, $7,500 for a 50-inch and $4,000 for the speaker, you'll probably never buy one, so take a good look after the break.
