Protein prevents your ice cream from melting quickly
In the future, you might not have to rush to eat your ice cream cone on a hot summer's day. Scottish researchers have discovered a naturally occurring protein that binds the air, fat and water in ice cream, which slows melting. The move would prevent your dessert from becoming a puddle, and spare companies from deep freezing their treats for as long as they do today. You could see higher-quality ice cream, too -- the protein promises a smoother texture without as many ice crystals or saturated fats.
New Warcraft wallpaper, costumes, art and comic updates
Blizzard has put together another giant pile of updates to many of the fan content galleries on the official site this week. Included with this round of updates is a new wallpaper featuring Chen Stormstout, along with a new fan comic. But the highlight of the gallery updates this time around has to be the costume section, featuring a ton of the costumes and cosplay from Gamescom 2014. The attention to detail with all of that armor continually impresses me, and this round of updates features a ton of trolls! I think what excited me the most, however, was the fact that we got a couple of new concept art pieces -- and this time, it's Warlords of Draenor art! Don't get me wrong, I love seeing the Mists of Pandaria concept art, but Draenor is so visually unique on the beta servers that I pretty much figured the concept art for the expansion had to be some amazing stuff. While we only got a couple of pieces this time around, I'm hoping we'll see more added as the weeks go on. Check out Blizzard's official post for links to all of the new additions.

Blizzard has put together another gigantic round of updates to many of the fan content galleries on the official site this week. Included with this update is a new wallpaper featuring Grommash Hellscream, a Pandaria-themed cake, another round of Mists of Pandaria concept art, and a new Warcraft fan comic. In addition to all of that, there's another group of images for the costume gallery, including the familiar face shown above. Cosplayer Lyz Brickley made the amazing recreation of everyone's favorite critter enthusiast Mylune for BlizzCon 2011, and we interviewed her about the process shortly after. I think the costume section updates win out as my favorites for this round -- in addition to Mylune, there are several other really well done costumes featured, including an amazing Garona and even someone who chose to cosplay as a Training Dummy, of all things. This is also the first update we've seen to the dessert gallery in quite some time -- I'm hoping that means there are more updates on the way for that particular section as well. Daily iPhone App: Made brings scrumptous sweets right to your front door
Would you like to sample goodies from some of the best independent bakers in the US? Treats so fine they will make your mouth water just by looking at them. If you are driven by a sweet tooth, then you should fire up the App Store and download the new Made app from Helpies. Made lets you browse through a large and lovely catalog of desserts from local bakers, bakeries, chocolatiers and candy makers. The list includes high-profile companies like Ovenly and Made By Melissa. The Made app is driven by visuals, and I must say that the photos of the desserts are stunning -- literally mouth-watering. Made is more than a picture book, though. It's also a shopping tool that lets you order these delicious sweets and have them delivered directly to your front door. Made includes information about the baker, a description of the dessert and order details like preparation time and shipping cost. Ordering a dessert requires an account and you can sign up within the app. You also have to enter your shipping and payment details, which are saved for future purchases. Made is available for free from the iOS App Store. It's worth a download, even just to browse through the treats and learn more about some of the top local bakers in the US.

Now that Ice Cream Sandwich is officially coming our way next week, Google's statue-makers (Honeycomb, Gingerbread, Froyo) wasted no time raising an idol in its honor. TUAW's Daily App: Movie Night Out
Movie Night Out is a fun and free little app that can help with that seemingly ever-present question: "So what do you want to do tonight?" It's a piece of cake to use. Just punch in what you want to do for your movie night (maybe hit up some shopping, see the movie, and then grab dessert, or do dinner, check out an action hit, and then get coffee). The app will automatically find some options for each of your choices and put together a schedule that will let you do all three. You can check out information and reviews for all of the options, and even map out, share on Facebook or Twitter, or save your "night" for another time. There's not really anything here that you can't find in other apps, but the smooth interface and fun randomization of your choices make the free app worth a download. If there's an issue, the app probably depends on where you're looking. I happened to try the app in the middle of Hollywood, and I'm pretty certain that if I tried it in a less populated place, there wouldn't have been as many places to go. The schedules were also a little fast; sometimes the app only offered 10 minutes to move from one place to another, even when they were a few miles apart (maybe that's easy to do elsewhere, but not so quick in the middle of Los Angeles). But nobody's really going to follow a schedule created by an app on movie night, right? If you find yourself needing some new suggestions the next time you want to head out on the town, give this one a download.
World of WarCrafts: Holiday ornaments, cookies and more

It may be relatively quiet around here this week, but World of WarCrafts is still managing to keep the holiday spirit rolling. Allow us to pass along several submissions from crafty readers with a Christmas-y bent ... First up, the Christmas tree ornaments (above) sent in by Faylinne from US Duskwood. Faylinne created these as a gift for Cyer of US Blade's Edge, the friend she credits as inspiring her to play World of Warcraft. Sounds like great results from both sides of that particular equation. Join us after the break for a Horde cookie cutter and gingerbread cookies, plus a small gallery of sweets from a baker new to WoW-themed desserts.
Kururin Doughnuts randomly appears on Gametrailers with English subtitle
Is Kururin Doughnuts getting localized? You probably don't remember this as the donut-starring platformer with bonus dessert recipes that we highlighted back in March. It was released in Japan last week, and now some gameplay footage has appeared on Gametrailers.The mere existence of the video on Gametrailers isn't conclusive proof of anything, since undeniably Japanese clips of Stock Trader Shun, Let's Try Fortune Telling DS, and our favorite, Doki Doki Majo Shinpan, were uploaded on the same day. But what piqued our interest was the subtitle given to the game: Enchanted Pastry. It's not just a translation of the Japanese subtitle, Okashi na Recipe (Recipe for Sweets)-- so where did Gametrailers get it? Either they made it up or there's a US trailer involved. Every sweet-toothed gamer's dream
There's already enough video game cakes on the internet to give you a mouth full of cavities, but we couldn't pass on a slice of this dual-screened dessert from Patrick and his girlfriend, Zara. The UK couple celebrated Mother's Day yesterday by baking this treat for Patrick's mom, a 60-year-old gamer. The attention to detail is impressive, taking into account a matching stylus, icing-covered screenshots, and even a red battery light! Every single curve and recess on an actual Nintendo DS Lite is mirrored on the cake, ready to be gobbled up. It's going to be tough for other video game desserts to meet the standard Patrick and Zara have set.
