The whole "Tiberium infestation" seems to have gotten a tad worse since we last left the Command and Conquer series. The recently released debut trailer for the fourth installment in the core franchise (posted after the break) features no gameplay, but includes a great deal of the chartreuse crystal that the world can't seem to live with (or without). It also features an appearance by bald-headed Nod leader Kane, a possible alliance between two old enemies, and a glowing, swirly ... ball ... thing.Confused? We're right there with you. Check out the trailer after the break, but brace yourself -- we won't find out what the hell is going on until 2010.

  • Dude, he invented the friggin' iPod. Have you heard of it?

Meet Kane Kramer. In 1979, he filed a patent for a device called the IXI, an early digital device that held about three minutes of music. He let the patent lapse a decade later, and never saw a penny from Apple's blistering success with the iPod. You might think this was a story of a bitter man with an agenda against Apple. There, you'd be wrong. Apple was dealing with a lawsuit from Burst.com in which they claimed to have originally come up with the idea for the iPod. Apple asked Kramer to testify on their behalf, talking about how he filed his patent years before Burst did. Instead of fighting further, Burst and Apple settled out of court. Kramer was paid a consultancy fee for traveling to California and making his deposition. "The questioning by the Burst legal counsel there was tough, ten hours of it. But I was happy to do it," Kramer told the Daily Mail. "To be honest, I was just so pleased that finally something that I had done which has been a huge success and changed the music industry was being acknowledged." Presumably on friendly terms, Kramer is negotiating now for compensation from Apple with regards to his original idea. [Via Valleywag.]

  • EA signs celebs Henstridge and Lumbly for Kane's Wrath

Sci-fi sex alien Natasha Henstridge of Species fame will join the cast of Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath, as will former Alias star Carl Lumbly, better known around these parts as the voice of J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter on the Justice League animated series. The pair will join veteran C&C actor Joe Kucan, a.k.a. Kane, as the central characters in the upcoming expansion, which will cover 20 years of in-game history, from the rebirth of the Brotherhood of Nod following the second Tiberium War to events beyond that of the most recent game. The use of digitized actors is something of a ghost of gaming past, but Command & Conquer has nonetheless continued to embrace tradition in using live actors in its games, and any news that gives us an excuse to (go)ogle Natasha Henstridge is just fine by us.

In an interview with Yahoo!, WWE superstar and See No Evil star Kane admitted that he is a huge fan of the Xbox 360. After receiving it for Christmas last year, Kane has been playing Gears of War and COD 3 non stop as first person shooters are his drug of choice. Now he has turned to the dark side leaving PC gaming for good saying, "I can't even play on a computer any more because I can't get used to the keyboard and mouse after using the control pad for so long". Good for you big guy, console gaming is where all the cool kids are at and you my friend are one cool kid. Do you know of any moderately famous people who have publicly admitted to being video game lovers?[Thanks, Retrofied]

  • WWE star Kane professes love of PSP

WWE wrestling superstar Kane loves the PSP ... and so should you. When traveling on his cross-country flights, the celebrity can be often seen playing a match of WWE Smackdown on Sony's portable. "The PSP is a pretty popular system because it doesn't take up a lot of room," said Kane. "It has the Wi-Fi connections so the guys can play each other. We've had some long trips overseas and the guys will actually get some games going on the PSPs. One of the best time-passes I've ever had on a transatlantic flight was a three-way tables, ladders and chairs match with me playing as myself and then the other two guys were playing as Shelton Benjamin and the 80s Hulk Hogan. We had like an hour-long match. With the portability, you don't lose much in gameplay and graphics because it's such an awesome little machine."The wrestler admits that he has a bias for wrestling games, but that's not all he likes in the PSP library. "I've played the PSP version of the game and it's probably the best game on the PSP, and that's saying a lot because the PSP has a lot of good games on it," he notes. You could choose to disagree with him, but then, he'd probably just kill you.[Via Yahoo!]

  • TV calibration expert Joe Kane's take on high-def video formats

Joe Kane is one of the world's foremost expert on TV calibration (Think Digital Video Essentials) and was recently interviewed about calibration and the high-def format war. The first half of the the video interview is all about calibration and if you can sit through the somewhat European content, (and bad camera zooms) it does become worth your while. He is stating that Blu-ray is all about greed. Why? Because they are using MPEG-2. He is basing this opinion on personal experiences of demoing VC-1 and MPEG-2 where not a single person failed to see the differences. We don't know if Joe is making any money on HD DVD or VC-1 (like Major Nelson) but it doesn't seem likely. This is just a man that is expressing his personal experiences on the subject.Check it out.
