Epic will publish games from Remedy, Playdead and genDESIGN
What do when you're the creator of one of the most profitable games in the world? For Fortnite developer Epic Games, the answer it turns out is to help other studios work on their next projects. Today, the company announced it has signed publishing agreements with Remedy Entertainment, Playdead and genDESIGN. Between those three studios, they've made some of the most highly acclaimed games in the past few years, including The Last Guardian, Inside, Limbo and Control.
'Limbo' developer Playdead's next adventure will be its biggest yet
Although Danish developer Playdead has only released two games since its start in 2006, they've both been great ones. Early last year the studio teased its next game after Inside and Limbo (both are now available on Switch, along with a number of other platforms) with a tweet and a single image, but now co-founder and art director Arnt Jensen has revealed a few more details in an interview with DR.
Discord’s game store is open to everyone
Discord is marching further onto Steam's turf by opening up its game store to all users. The store arrived in August in a limited beta, and now everyone can pick up games directly from the app.
Puzzle platformers 'Inside' and 'Limbo' hit Nintendo Switch June 28th

Both were already available to play on the go, as they're on iOS (Limbo is on the Google Play Store too). But if you want to delve into them on the subway using Joycons rather than a touchscreen, now's your chance. Creepy platformer 'Inside' leaps from console to iOS
Inside was my favorite game from 2016. It's a short, atmospheric adventure by Playdead — the same studio behind the mesmerizing, monochromatic Limbo — with a truly thought-provoking ending. Even now, I think about the game's final moments and what some of the build-up meant. If you haven't played it before and own an iPhone or iPad, there's no better chance to jump in — the game is out on iOS today. It's free to start but requires a $6.99 fee to reach the end credits. Trust me, it's well worth the asking price; few puzzle-platformers are this hauntingly beautiful.
'Limbo' and 'Inside' will make for one creepy retail disc
You've probably already beaten Limbo and Inside from Danish development team Playdead. But if you've wanted a physical version of the pair, that hasn't been available. Well, until now. Publisher 505 Games is partnering with the studio to put its macabre sidescrollers onto store shelves in one package for $30. If you're doing the math, that's the same price as buying the digital bundle on PSN or each game separately. Except, of course, you're getting a disc-based version.
The 'Inside' soundtrack was created with a human skull
Inside, the mysterious puzzle platformer by Playdead, continues the dark and isolating tone of its predecessor, Limbo. Much of the game's atmosphere can be attributed to the soundtrack, which offers a beautiful, yet haunting frame for the narrative. To nail this sombre mood, composer and sound designer Martin Stig Andersen turned to the human body. He found an old skull (yes, a real skull) and played the game's score through it, like an old school filter. The results were "quite bad," but Anderson persisted -- with a little post-processing, the final tracks were born.
Acclaimed platformer 'Inside' is coming to PlayStation 4
Limbo developer Playdead has revealed it will be releasing its latest acclaimed platformer, Inside, for PlayStation 4 on August 23rd. The date was announced via a new trailer which shows the game's main character falling into an abyss.
The Big Picture: 'Dark Souls' gets creepy with 'Limbo'-like mod
The Dark Souls series might not be the game for those folks who lack patience, but what you see up above is something just about anyone can appreciate. Reddit user CystisomaMagna was fooling around with the Reshade mod for the game and happened across some settings that turned the world of Lordran into a monochromatic, but still absolutely dangerous, wonderland. The user notes that the Limbo-esque modification isn't just for show, and that it's even possible to keep the game's HUD intact with it active. It might not get you soft-banned, either. Limbo limbering up for PlayStation 4, according to PEGI
It's GOTY Season here at Joystiq, so it's apt timing for Limbo to bend its way back into the news. 2010's #8 game looks set to make its debut on PS4 - yes, yet another system - following a new PEGI listing at the turn of the year. The European ratings board is rarely misleading on these things, but for now we're waiting on official confirmation. We approached developer Playdead this morning about the PEGI rating, but CEO Dino Patti said the company wasn't able to comment.
Xbox One gets cozy with Threes and Limbo this week
Xbox One welcomes all moods on December 5 with Limbo and Threes, the next two ID@Xbox entries. Microsoft gifted early Xbox One adopters with Playdead's monochrome misadventure last month, but everyone can purchase the platformer starting Friday. As for numeric puzzler Threes, you can flirt with its figures on the big screen for $7, also on Friday. Limbo is dark, disturbing and more than a bit hostile, but it still earned the full five stars in our 2010 review. If you're after something perkier, Threes combines an esoteric brand of tile-matching with the jazzy, bubbly atmosphere of a lounge party. That may sound like a bizarre mixture, so it's worth reading our Portabliss column to see just why it intoxicated us.
Korean ratings board suggests Limbo coming to Xbox One
Developer Playdead's eerie monochrome adventure Limbo may soon appear on the Xbox One, if a listing on the website of the South Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee is anything to go by. Discovered by NeoGAF posters, the listing offers scant details, but does indicate that Microsoft's Korean arm submitted an Xbox One version of Limbo to the GRAC for approval. No further information is available as the game is still under review. While this listing is no guarantee that Limbo will reach the Xbox One, either in South Korea or elsewhere, ratings agencies have a long history of revealing a game's existence prior to an official announcement. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Rocksmith 2014 were revealed by the ESRB and GRAC prior to Ubisoft's unveiling, just as the Pan European Game Information group outed the Xbox One version of Stick It To The Man before it was made official. Limbo dev goes 'Inside' Xbox One early 2015 [Update]
During Microsoft's E3 press conference today, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed that Limbo developer Playdead's follow-up project Inside is coming to Xbox One in 2015. No additional platforms were announced. [Update: A Playdead representative notes that Inside will "debut on Xbox," implying that a release is being considered for other platforms.]
Battlefield 4 PS3 20-hour trial lauches today for Plus members
20 hours of unpaid access to Battlefield 4 is today's unusual serving of PlayStation Plus for PS3 owners in North America. The new initiative grants full access to the DICE shooter on Sony's last-gen console, including single-player and multiplayer. The 20 hours are denoted as "playable" from the first moment you launch it, though it's unclear if that's accumulative or not. Of course it doesn't matter if you play it for 20 hours straight, in which case good for you - you're living the dream! PlayStation Plus in May: Puppeteer, Skullgirls and more
In May, PS Plus members get six games free across PS4, PS3 and Vita. On PS4, it's the wacky-waving flailing-spaghetti-arm adventure game, Stick it to the Man, which hits US PS4s on May 6. On PS3, Plus members can look forward to Puppeteer, Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 and Skullgirls Encore. Vita gets Surge Deluxe and Limbo. That's a lot of men, women and puppets on PlayStation devices (plus quite a few Ps). In Europe, PlayStation Plus members get Stick it to the Man, Puppeteer, Payday 2, Muramasa Rebirth and Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational in May.
Limbo investor funds indie sleepwalker Back to Bed
Sleepwalking puzzler Back to Bed is back on track thanks to assistance from Danish investment firm Capnova. The investment prompted the team of students from the Danish National Academy of Digital Interactive Entertainment (DADIU) to form an official studio now known as Bedtime Digital Games. Capnova's history of video game investments include Playdead's Limbo, PressPlay's Max and the Magic Marker and Full Control's digital adaptation of Space Hulk for iPad. Bedtime Digital Games Project Manager Klaus Pederson told Polygon that the funding from Capnova will make a second game from the developer possible. Back to Bed was scheduled to arrive in late December 2013 before being pushed back during the developer's restructuring. Players guide a sleepwalker through dreamlike, 3D puzzle-platforming environments in the game, which will come to PC, Mac, Linux , iOS, Android and Ouya. Final Xbox Live Ultimate Sale includes Saints Row 4, Limbo and Metro: Last Light
Today is the final day in Microsoft's Xbox Live sale on Xbox 360, and includes discounts on nine games. The following six discounted items are available through Games on Demand: Saints Row 4, Metro: Last Light, Tropico 4, Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon, Oblivion and Overlord 2. The other three games on sale through Xbox Live Arcade are Limbo, Puzzle Quest 2 and Rock of Ages. PSN Tuesday: FIFA 14, Girl Fight, free Rayman Origins on PS Plus
This week's PSN update has been issued, offering a fresh cornucopia of digital wares for your leisurely consumption. Both FIFA 14 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 are available for download, though only the former is available across multiple platforms: PS3, PS Vita (a re-skin) and PSP. Kung-Fu Factory's Girl Fight steps into the PSN ring today and The Mark of Kri joins the ranks of PS2 Classics. PS Plus members can download a free copy of Rayman Origins on the PS Vita today. The routine round of discounts have also been extended to PS Plus, with this week's deals highlighting Limbo, Worms Revolution and more. Price drops have also been extended to Dead Space 3 and pretty much the entire Assassin's Creed series – all of which you can pore over in the full list over on the PlayStation Blog.
PS Plus this week: Rayman Origins free on Vita, Limbo discounted
PS Plus members will get a free PS Vita download of Rayman Origins this week. While the delightful (and sometimes punishing) platformer failed to make it into our Top 10 of 2012, we assure you it was one of the year's high points. In addition to the free game, PS Plus members may also enjoy their requisite weekly discounts on a select group of games. Playdead's indie darling Limbo is down to $12, Worms: Revolution is $7.50 and Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut – a cross-buy enabled psychological adventure game for PS Vita and PS3 – is on sale for $11.69. Humble Indie Bundle 9 adds Limbo, Bastion and more
The Humble Indie Bundle 9 just added a quintet of new games. Limbo, Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken, Bastion and A Virus Named Tom are now available to would-be purchasers and those who've already coughed up dough for the collection alike. This latest Humble Bundle launched just last week and is headlined by FTL, Fez and Mark of the Ninja, in addition to Brutal Legend, Trine 2: Complete Story and a special beta version of Eets: Munchies. This latest grouping of games has little over six days left on its run, at which point it'll be retired for the next insanely tempting Humble Indie Bundle collection.
