A beautiful, harmonious future of fuel cell power providing ample juice to our various portable devices just got one step closer, with Samsung announcing a largish laptop dock that can squeeze a whole month of power out of a single fuel cell cartridge. Samsung is parading the setup with a Q35 ultraportable, and while we're sure some laptops will up the power requirements and fall a bit short of that month, the new fuel cell is still quite impressive. Samsung claims the 650Wh/L energy density is roughly four times that of competing offerings, and that the noise level has been reduced to that of a normal notebook computer, which had apparently been a large obstacle to commercialization. Samsung is also prepping a mini version of the fuel cell which uses around a coffee cup's worth of fuel, but can still power a laptop for over 15 hours. Safety standards are still in the works for the new tech, but it looks like Samsung is rearing to go, and they're planning to launch this dock at the end of 2007.[Via Akihabara]

Korea Telecom has introduced what it claims to be the world's first WiBro-equipped laptop -- not manufactured by KT mind you (they're big, but not that big), but by Samsung. The model in question is an updated version of Sammy's well-received Q35, with DMB capabilities also added to the mix in addition to that high-speed WiBro goodness. We presume the rest of the specs remain the same, however, with a 12-inch widescreen display, Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processor, up to 1GB of RAM, and an 80GB hard drive in a lightweight four-pound package. Look for this one to come in between 1,600,000 and 2,000,000 won, or between $1,700 and $2,140 -- in Korea only, naturally.

  • Samsung Q35 ultra-portable, now with Core 2 Duo

Mmmm, that tasty Samsung Q35 just went Core 2 Duo. And from the looks of things, that's the only change you're gonna see; same 12.1-inch widescreen display, 80GB SATA disk, up to 1GB memory, and integrated Intel graphics swaddled in a sleek, 4-pound ultra-porable. Still, while the new proc won't be any more efficient with the juice than the Q35's former Core Duo, that promised 20% boost in performance ain't chicken feed. Most of all, kudos to you Sammy for not calling this the World's Smallest Core 2 Duo laptop held by a shoeless waif. Nice to see a bit of restraint on this one. Also announced is the less interesting 15.4-inch, R55 with that same 1.8GHz T5600 Core 2 Duo CPU, disk, and RAM but with GeForce Go 7600 graphics for that extra bit of oomph. Stay tuned for the deluge of Core 2 Duo lappies to come dear readers.

What can you say about a Samsung laptop (hot) that's already supposedly the smallest Core Duo machine in the world (very hot)? Well, not a lot else except that you really like it, in TrustedReviews' case; the gave Samsung's Q35 an average 9/10, finding notable "improvements" over its predecessor the Q30, like an integrated DVD burner and PC card slot (so sue us, we like our ultraportables to have external drives and maybe an ExpressCard slot, where possible). And that's not even to mention the nice widescreen display, a 5-in-1 media reader, solid keyboard, and a semi-reasonable £993 ($1,830 US) price tag that TR thinks makes this thing "impossible not to recommend."
