Boring Company will build a futuristic tunnel garage
The Boring Company has some fairly grand plans when it comes to its tunnelling ambitions. It's proposed a 3.6 mile tunnel from an LA Metro station to Dodger Stadium, and it's recently been selected to build a high-speed transport link in Chicago. Now, it's set its sights on residential applications, and has purchased a property near SpaceX headquarters where it plans to build a private, prototype garage.
Impressions of ... that other arcade stick
The Shaft, the Wii Classic Controller joystick that isn't the Hori Fighting Stick, was on display at this year's CES, and Gizmodo couldn't help but check it out, mostly because it has a funny name that can be giggled about. It's the "Wii" technique of attracting mainstream attention.Surprisingly, for something that looks like the misshapen hybrid of a Classic Controller and a cheapo arcade stick (well ...), Gizmodo thought the thing felt nice. Apparently the different colors also have different finishes: the black controller is rubberized, while the white one is smooth plastic. We don't know if they actually tried the controller out with any games. Talking about the thing was probably fun enough.
Overline gives Wii owners "The Shaft"
Punny headlines aside, The Shaft provides yet another way to control all those Virtual Console downloads clogging up your Wii menu. The wired, 6" x 11" arcade-style stick from previously unheard-of Overline Gaming merges the proud tradition and size of arcade fighting sticks with the svelte, plastic styling of the Wii. It sports analog control for Nintendo 64 games as well as digital "resting points" in the eight primary directions for older-school gaming. Pre-orders are currently being taken for white, pink and black version for mid-December shipment -- $39.95 for one or $69.95 for two.[Via Engadget]
Talkin' bout Shaft
There isn't exactly many choices for those looking to have that arcade experience with their Wii in the living room, so while The Shaft might not be the most ideal solution, at least it is a solution other than "not having an arcade stick." They aren't out now, either, so it isn't like you can stroll down to your local game shop and try one out, so if you are interested, you'll have to wait until mid-December, when they ship. Wii Shaft: the arcade-style joystick for virtual console titles
We have to believe that the name of this arcade-style joystick was chosen more for hype and less for, well, anything else, but nevertheless, it's yet another way to add even more retro to the virtual console experience. Slated to arrive just in time for the holidays, The Shaft will be available in arctic white, coral pink and midnight black, and it will darn near take up your entire lap, too. The oversized creation sports a customizable turbo function along with six control buttons, but we could certainly see this thing becoming an excellent chew toy for Fido if left unattended for an extended period of time.
