Apple's online store is currently down. When the Apple Store goes down around this time of week, it's usually a sign of something new showing up in the store or some kind of promotional/holiday refresh taking place rather than simple maintenance updates. We haven't heard of any new products coming down the pipeline -- Apple probably has its hands full with the new iPad rollout at the moment -- but we'll let you know what (if anything) shows up when the store comes back up. We have heard that Apple may simply be doing some work on the backend to update its images for the iPad's higher-resolution Retina Display, so that might be all this is. Don't get your hopes up is all we're saying. Update: The store is back up, but as far as we can tell nothing's different. Let us know in the comments if you see something we missed.

Yup, the US store is down. Couldn't tell you why just yet, but if you really wanted to buy that new MacBook Air this evening, you'll have to wait until it comes back up. When we see something new, we'll post about it here -- or just stay tuned to the comments on this post! What could it be? A Mac revision? A revamped cinema display? The rumored dead white iPhone? Your guess is as good as ours. Update: The store is back up, with no obvious changes. Looks like it was just a maintenance update, which wasn't all that surprising since it went down on a Saturday night.

Yeah yeah, the Apple Store is down globally, on a Tuesday, and we're sitting on a pile of overdue MacBook Pro and Mac Pro rumors. Next. Update: AppleInsider has a last minute tip showing refreshed MacBooks Pro across the entire range of 13.3-, 15.4-, and 17-inchers. Each ships with 4GB of memory and new Intel Core processors with clocks ranging from 2.4GHz to 2.66GHz with options for glossy, high resolution glossy, and high resolution glossy with anti-glare displays. Some models are expected to offer a 512GB SSD option as well. See the part listings after the break.

The online Apple store is currently down. Considering it's the middle of the weekend for folks in the Western Hemisphere, and considering that we haven't heard much in the way of rumors concerning new products or product updates, this is more than likely just a maintenance update. We'll be monitoring the store's status and try to determine what, if anything, has changed when it comes back up. And... it's back up. Nothing much appears to have changed, aside from some reports of pricing changes on refurb iPods and the 'new' badges on some products. Thanks to the many readers who sent this in.

...for the downtime in the store means that the Black Friday discounts will soon be up in the US. We already know the rough scale of the savings -- modest, not dramatic -- so don't get too excited! Thanks to everyone who sent this in. Now, go to bed and sleep off that load of turkey.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Yes, the Apple Store is down right now (apparently worldwide no, just US and Canada, sorry) despite Apple's denial of any new products before the holiday season. Chances are this is just routine maintenance, although it's definitely Tuesday... so we'll see.Update: Looks like it's the holiday window dressing and possibly some changes to the refurb section. Thanks to all the night owls who sent this in.

So, I'm over at iTunes trying to snag this free Supernatural episode and the entire iTunes store goes down. From what all of you have been sending in, so has the main Apple online store. So: thanks for letting us know and you can stop sending in those tips! Update: It is back, without an update. Nothing to see here, folks, move along.
