While Gigabyte officially launched its first UMPC, the curiously-familiar U60, back at CeBit, the company unfortunately left out a few key details at the time -- namely, pricing and availability. That seems to have finally been sorted out, however, and DigiTimes is now reporting that the device will be released in Taiwan on May 22nd for NT$26,900, or just over $800 (it'll apparently hit the "global market" in the second half of the year). Gigabyte isn't exactly going all out with them though, with the initial run pegged at just 500 units. In case you missed it, the device itself runs on a VIA C7-M processor, boasts a 6.5-inch 800 x 600 display, a 20GB or 30GB hard drive, and (something we didn't know before) built-in 3G/3.5G support. According to DigiTimes, Gigabyte is also planning to release a second UMPC before too long, with it reportedly set to make its debut sometime in the second half of this year.[Via Akihabara News]

Gigabyte chose to unveil the products it'll be showing off at CeBit today, and though we had been anticipating the 6.5-inch, Via-powered U60 UMPC Medion-rebadge, the five new Santa Rosa / Centrino Pro-based notebooks come as mostly a surprise. Built around Intel's latest, Merom-specific mobile platform, all five models sport a capacious 10,000mAH eight-hour battery and are loaded up with Vista. The entire spec sheets won't be made available until the show kicks off, but what we do know for now is that the W251U is a 12.1-inch ultraportable with built-in webcam, the W466U and W468N are both 14.1-inch machines -- with the latter offering 256MB NVIDIA NB8P graphics as well as Robson quick-boot technology -- the 15.4-inch W566N sports the same chipset along with Dual-Heatpipe cooling, and the 17-inch W756N is a gaming workhorse with 1GB worth of graphics cards in SLI. Obviously with the lack of details comes a dearth of info on pricing and availability as well, but all that and more should be revealed in just a few short days. • Gigabyte looking to unveil U60 UMPC at CeBIT?

It seems like just about everyone is testing out the questionable UMPC waters of late, as just days after seeing the niche BumbleBee offering, Gigabyte is purportedly looking to dish out a handheld computer of its own at next month's CeBIT. Although details are admittedly scant, the proposed U60 will tout a swank slide-out / split keyboard approach, a 6.5-inch 800 x 600 resolution display, integrated 802.11b/g, your choice of 20GB / 30GB 1.8-inch hard drives, a pair of USB ports, SD / MMC flash card readers, and a mysterious C7-M processor. Unfortunately, that's about all the information that's been leaked on the 1.59-pound device thus far, but we should know plenty more when the floor opens up in mid-March.[Via UnwiredView]
