Following on its beefy-but-miserably-unattractive B2700 of last year, Samsung has introduced its rugged B2100 candybar under the Xplorer name. With quadband EDGE data and a 160 x 128 display, don't count on doing much browsing -- but if you throw the phone against a brick wall in a fit of rage over the slow downloads, at least it'll probably survive. It rocks mil-spec 810F compliance for rain, salt, ambient moisture, and extreme temperatures, plus an FM radio, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, microSD expansion, and a 1.3 megapixel camera with video recording, making it a low-end sidearm capable of taking some of the worst abuse mankind can give it. Look for it around Europe starting next month.

When you get your hands on a copy of Guitar Hero II, tomorrow, you'll find in the instruction manual the answer to the question which many inquisitive gamers have been pondering: What's that port on the bottom of the axe for? While it's been rumored for an effects pedal since the first shots showing it were released, it can now be confirmed. The manual explicitly states three things, first that it's for an effects pedal. Secondly, it will, naturally, be sold separately, and finally, that the feature is currently unavailable. We'll probably see it get use in the next iteration of Guitar Hero's series. Would you welcome some footwork when rocking out?

  • GTX Corporation unveils GPS-equipped Xplorer shoes

It seems like Sayo Isaac Daniel has some serious competition coming at him in the GPS shoe market, as GTX Corporation is unveiling its latest geo-tracking footwear at next week's World Shoe Association trade show. The questionably styled Xplorer kicks pack an internal GPS transceiver, built-in battery that's good for "several days" before needing a recharge, and a sleek Dual GeoFencing feature that keeps your offspring on a leash gives parents peace of mind. Shoe owners (read: paranoid guardians) can utilize the firm's "internet portal" in order to pinpoint limited boundaries in which the wearer can, um, Xplore, and if the person's shoes ever leave the pre-set area, a phone alert will be immediately sent to a pre-selected individual to warn them. No pricing or release information was readily available, but if we had to guess, we doubt your kiddo will be begging for these next school year anyway. [Via NaviGadget]

  • Confirmed: no Xbox Live multiplayer in Guitar Hero II, update possible

GamePro has crushed our dream of thrashing some Xbox Live upstart in a Guitar Hero face-off come March (and we do emphasize "dream"). After a recent hands-on, the site confirms that the Xbox 360 port of Guitar Hero II will lack an online multiplayer component (despite a built-in headset jack on the game's X-Plorer controller). As in the PlayStation 2 version, Co-op, Face-off, and Pro Face-off modes will be limited to offline play.Elsewhere, RedOctane has suggested that a multiplayer update (via Xbox Live) is possible. Apparently, iffy co-op play prevented online multiplayer from being a launch feature.Guitar Hero II on Xbox 360 will feature leaderboards and downloadable songs (or 'jam packs').[Thanks, Jonah]
