The best of Public Access Vol.12: Party on

Welcome to the new, monthly Best of Public Access post where we update you on all the happenings from our community page. While Best of posts now appear monthly instead of weekly, Public Access members will still find new assignments every Friday in their accounts. In the past few weeks there's been plenty happening over on the Engadget home page, including the TwitchCon keynote, all kinds of Apple news, a Millennium Falcon drone for sale, and an illustrated tree of life.

There's been a lot going on here in Public Access-landia too! We launched the new home page, threw it a celebratory GIF party, started featuring the Editor's Picks on the Engadget home page, and yesterday, the first new Q&A post went live. A few questions will appear on the Public Access home page as a preview; you can click through to read the entire Q&A (and check out all the very clever GIFs I added). This initial Q&A features answers from writer, poet and comedian Bucky Sinister, and new Q&A posts will go up about every two weeks.

Also, if you're a Public Access member and want to know how you can get your story to appear on the home page, check out the Public Access Changes and Updates page in the Resources tab. If you're not yet a Public Access member, you can sign up here to contribute articles. If you'd like to see all the Public Access posts, they're still located here.

"Everyone knows that photos take up a lot of room on our devices, so it's always good to go through and delete older photos in the Photos app. But what many people don't realize is that a lot of the time any new photo they take is actually being saved as two images, not one, and this means your storage gets taken up twice as fast."

Your dose of inspiration

There have been a bunch of assignments added for Public Access members this month, including Tech etiquette tips, Best WiFi router names near you, and App-roved: Excellent Travel Apps. For this week, the two new assignments are to tell us about the last scam someone tried to pull on you (what happened and how did you recognize it to be a scam?), and a Top 5 Favorites list of your favorite movies based on video games. Personally, I can't wait to write about my secret love of Mortal Kombat. As always, feedback, questions and concerns can be added here in the comments or sent to me at amber@engadget.com.
