Engadget Review

After the One M9 failed to find its footing, HTC cooked up a sequel with a new but derivative look. It's a well-built device and is one of the first to ship with Google's latest version of Android, but some of the One series' hallmark features are nowhere to be found. The end result is a phone that, while perfectly good, doesn't stand apart from the competition.

iPhone copy or not, this is a top mid-range phone. Pity it sells at a top-end price.

For an awful lot of people, the HTC One A9 will be all the smartphone they need. It looks and feels great, has fluid, well-designed software and a dependable camera. But the launch price feels inflated for what the A9 is, and its longevity is hampered by the relatively small battery.

HTC has built a really great phone that’s easy to love, but it’s dressed it up like an iPhone and given it a matching price premium. That works for Apple, but not for HTC.

The One A9 is one of HTC’s best phones in a while. It has a beautiful design (with more than a few borrowed elements), nice camera, and great software. Despite all the fancy features, this is still a mid-range phone, and an overpriced one at that.

CNET
HTC's One A9 is just fine for a midrange device, but for its astonishingly high full retail price, you can buy much more powerful, better overall phones.

To compare this too much to an iPhone would be unfair to the genuinely impressive power under the hood - but it's curious that HTC has decided on this design path.

It’s a very pretty phone. It works ok, but mostly it’s very pretty.

TrustedReviews
Overpriced and undercooked, the One A9 isn’t going to propel HTC back where it wants to be.

DroidLife
Between the great camera, good build, the latest version of Android, a fingerprint scanner, NFC, an SD card slot, and more, the HTC One A9 is a very well rounded device that is absolutely worth considering as your next phone.

Digital Trends
HTC’s all-metal One A9 has style, but its $500 price tag is much higher than the competition.
